Hi ladies: I've had some serious complications with a mastectomy I had in March. (I want reconstruction, it failed due to an infection; I now don't have enough good skin). My question is this: Did anyone NOT have a drain put in after mastectomy? Thank you!

    Colleen,

I've never heard of not having a drain put in after mastectomy. Do you think you had a problem because you did or did not have a drain? I too had a failed reconstruction but believe it all worked out for the best as I was never comfortable with the implant.

Thank you for your response. The new PS said that the infection was caused by the lack of a drain. I kept filling up with fluid and they drained it manually in the office. The new PS kept repeating this over and over and said I received sub-standard care. I think he was trying to tell me to do something about it legally. I do know that I will not have a good result now because of the way the skin settled. BUT I don't know that I want to spend my time on something as negative as a lawsuit. My husband though, seems to disagree. . .

Hi ladies...I'm new to this site. I had a bi-lateral mastectomy in 2003 and have been on femara since then.
I developed shingles and pneumonia this year. My oncologist ordered a PET/CT. The results showed clips in my right underarm..where he removed the lymph nodes. The only reason I know this is because I requested a copy of the test. Is this normal or did someone forget to count?
    Thank you!
