    Hi everyone,

The party was wonderful. The weather was fabulous and everyone had a great time. The fireworks are set off about 1/2 mile from our house and we have a perfect view.

We had about 65 people and 5 of us have had breast cancer. Laurie had breast cancer 1 1/2 years ago and had a bilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. Viddie, she had Dr. Tobias, Dr Lee's partner. She said that the entire experience was really postive, Beth Israel hospital, the Dr's, the post care. She showed me her breasts...OMG! If mine come out half as nice as hers, I'll be thrilled. They are two perky perfect breasts with small cute nipples and areolas. I was absolutely amazed at how good they looked. It really gave me encouragement and confidence in the reconstruction I chose, the Drs and the hospital.

My infection is still there and my skin from rads is pretty bad. The skin under my arm looks black and blue...not sure what's up with that. I see the rad onc today so will ask about it. Last night I was up for about 3 hours and couldn't sleep because of the pain, then decided to take a percecet. Today I started taking prescription strength Aleve as an anti-inflamitory for the infection...I really hope it works.

Lots of messages to catch up on, I'll check in later.

    Sharon, your sketch is awesome!

Jan, what a lovely camp. I am glad you found some to relax.

Happy Canada Day to my canadian sisters

Melia, congrats on your last chemo impending. Hallelujah the light at the end of the tunnel! Beaten into submission is about how I felt too....and you had a longer haul than I did, so i can only imagine.

The sleepover party was fun. We had some girly politics...there were two girls who do not like each other, and another pair of girls that like each other too much (they bicker like sisters) and that created friction, but things did not get hairy until late in the night when they were all crabby (and I was asleep). I found out the next morning that the two girls that are like sisters came to blows...I was absolutely HORRIFIED that that there was violence in my home. In some ways it was better that I was asleep (it was about 3am) because i would have called their parents on the spot. As it was, one of the girls involved went home early on her own. Other than that, they had a great time....they created and staged a show for us, worked on lanyards and did some tie dye. Overall it was more giggling than fighting which is all you can ask for I guess.

Baby Bella continues to thrive. Naturally since I was the one who resisted the adoption, it is me that she has attached herself to. I woke up this morning with a purring ball of fuzz planted on my belly. She runs to find me when she is scared and follows me around the house like a little puppy. It finally sunk in that she has decided that I belong to her when I discovered her fighting with Sport (my big cat) over who gets to sleep on my pillow. One guess who won the battle . Frances does not seem to mind the arrangement. I was afraid she would be upset, because Bella was supposed to be HERS. Frances just laughs about it, and implies that it was inevitable. I AM after all a cat person! On the other hand, I am the one who winds up being attacked in the middle of the night when she is feeling frisky so it has a downside I guess.

rads, and my Dr appt went well today...my skin is much improved from this time last week so that is good. I also asked the Dr about using cornstarch and she said it would be fine (this is after I asked the rads techs and they told me NO WAY) she also told me I could use some cortisone cream for the itching.

Tonight I am going to the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center to see "Cinderella" with Frances and my MIL. Should be fun!

    Scarf Video

I have seen a link in here of a video that shows you how to do the scarf tieing thing. Does anyone have it please?

The social worker at my cancer center needs it for a presentation. She wants me to demonstrate...

    Thank you.

    Hey ladies,
Sharon, you captured the soul of that dog. I think you have "found your bliss."
Jan, the girls are darling and I'm amazed at the clarity of your fireworks pix. I've never had any turn out that good.
Rebecca that is great to hear about baby Bella. Sounds like the girls kept you hopping at that party. I'm not surprised to hear about the bit of fisticuffs, thanks to all the playground duty I've done while teaching, girls these days are almost as aggressive as boys. Which can be good and bad! Glad you are enjoying my blog. I need to do some more. And it's great you can try cornstarch, I saw great improvement with it.
Lynn, 5 out of 65 at party had bc? That seems like a lot. And port infection still there? But is it getting better? Hope they can ease off on the rads or help you heal it somehow. Luckily I think skin has good recuperative powers but that doesn't make it feel better in the meantime.
I had to see Dr. Jones today because Dr. Clapper was out, and he told me Dr. Clapper's hobby is racing Porsche's! I also learned many interesting things about Dr. Jones, we had a long conversation about his Thai wife, Thai food and even Thai sea monsters. Doctors are people, too. I tend to forget that.
Joni, please send photo of your fern garden if you can. - Skye

    Hi all,
Only one more taxol left on Friday!!! So excited. I would love to get my strength back. I am usually tired on Mondays. I didn’t sleep well last night, so today I am double tired.
My dd’s bf is coming on Wednesday til Sunday. Sleeping arrangements are going to be tricky. Even though she is 23, it is in our nature to give them separate bedrooms. We have two bedrooms upstairs very close to each other and two bedrooms downstairs. We sleep downstairs and would like him to also sleep in the other downstairs bedroom. My dd would rather have him upstairs. She swears he is a gentleman and would never sneak around while we are home, but still, my dh would rather have them on separate floors. I am sure a “discussion” will take place before Wednesday. I decided to stay out of it.
    Lynn,
I am glad your party was a success. Thanks for sharing the reassuring information on BI and Dr. Tobias & Dr. Lee. It is really nice to know someone who used them and had a very happy successful experience. Do you have another appointment with your BS soon so he can take another look at your infection?
    Sharon,
Very nice sketch!! You do wonderful work!
    Jan,
Your children are adorable. Looks like a very peaceful place.
    Rebecca,
Have fun in NYC! I love New York. I am glad Baby Bella is recovering so well. You are her heroine.

Debbie - Hip Hip Hurray!! No more chemo for you!
Jan- your girls are too adorable, what are their names and ages?
Viddie - good luck with the sleeping arrangements. I haven't had to deal with that yet here in my house, no serious BFs yet for my 18 and 21 year old DDs.
shorti - have a good week at the lodge downtown, hopefully you will get to explore some more of the city in between your treatments.
I will try to remember to chat tonight - what time is it again - 7:30 ET?

    Hi all,
Viddie, those sleeping arrangements are a challenge. We don't let our unmarried adult kids stay with their partners either. The middle one (of course) challenged me on it a few months back. I suggested she discuss it with her dad. She asked me to so I mentioned it to him, and he stood up and left the room. Didn't say a word. I told her that and said she might want to talk to him herself. She declined and it hasn't been an issue since. Makes me chuckle. We set the rule early of course, and now they are in their late 20's, but it's our home and we get to set the rules.

My last chemo is thursday. I am giddy about it. My blood counts came back fine, I see the oncologist this afternoon, and as of thursday, I am done. What a long road, and what good friends all of you are ... I don't know what I would have done without you. My husband was great, but he could not handle any fear or uncertainty. If I acted scared, he told me I was being negative. You ladies just made me feel better. Funny how men are; it took me a while to understand that he was scared too.

Jan, your little girls are exquisite.

    Hi all,

I finish Taxol on Friday. YEAH!!!!
Pat, Debbie, Melia and I are done with taxol this week!!! What a long haul, and we are finally at the finish line.
I will continue herceptin until April. Caya, Tina, Skye, and I will be on herceptin until next year. Did I leave anyone out?
    Debbie and Pat,
Congratulations on finishing!!! The 4th of July will have extra meaning to both of you. Enjoy!
    Sharon,
I hope you get lots of R & R at the lodge. No cooking and no cleaning are a few perks I would enjoy.
    Melia,
We have all been a great support to each other- who else would really understand our challenges but us.
    Yeah for Thursday!!
I am glad there is someone else out there that is as “old fashioned” as us. I also told my dd to speak to her dad. When they spoke about the sleeping arrangements, there were no questions from her. She wouldn’t challenge him; that is reserved for me- lol.
    Jan,
Any news with your insurance company?
    Lynn,
    Is your infection improving?
    Tonight at 8:30??

Jan, that's pretty much how I feel! I have tomorrow off to savor a day of feeling good before the last infusion. And no matter how I feel after this last one, it doesn't matter because I will get better everyday. Right now my issue is that I can't button anything because my fingers are so sore, my ankles look like they belong on an elephant, and I ache. But I just don't care. It's almost over!

Melia, Viddie, Debbie, "Wayover20" (Pat?), CONGRATS TO ALL OF YOU! What a huge hurdle. Melia, giddy was how I'd describe me too at my last one. And my DH was thee same exact: say anything about being scared and you're labeled "negative". Yes, 4th of July: freedom from Taxol!!! You're just not gonna believe how different you feel in, say, 6 weeks time. It's all going to come back gradually, but by 6 weeks anyway, you'll say wow!

Sharon, your lab drawing was amazing! Doubly amazing that you are feeling the way you are and were still able to churn that out!

Jan, not sure if I commented on your camping pics. Girls are adorable and look just like you. What a neat little trailer too...looks immaculate, w/that nice deck, etc.

I'm feeling OK. A bit out of shape and even though I'm only 5-7 lbs. over where I started, I read in Carolyn Kaelins book that on average, chemo will increase body fat by 20% on the average, healthy 40 year old woman...this is what normally would happen over ten years. I feel very flabby and out of shape. I feel a real need to tone my body so I can know if these aches are just being out of shape or what. I'm not having major aches, just a little of that arm syndrome I mentioned the other day.

Tina - have your Vitamin B12 level checked the next time you get blood work done. In Canada they do not routinely check for this, you have to ask for it separately. Numbness and those weird sensations can be a symptom of low B12 - my brother had this, and his was dangerously low. And he's a big strong guy in otherwise great physical shape. He ended up needing major natural supplements of the B12.
