I am of course, Reagan and my wife is Marie. I am the main computer message board guru so I will post the most of the time on this board....I think. I am 42 and my wife is 41. On May 11th a mammogram was conducted on my wife and there was a deep suspicion of cancer. She had a mass that had formed to over 2 1/2 inches in a little over a month. It was later confirmed though a biopsy and due to very recent family history it was determined that she required a mastectomy. That was done on the 7th of June. Luckily no intrusion into the lymph nodes. It was revelaed that the tumor was actually only about 2 1/2 centimeters but she is still considered to be Stage II. She is due for a heart test on Monday and a full bone scan on Tuesday which will be the final determining factor as to which chemo she will be receiving sometime later this week. I am not looking forward to this as you can surmise.....so many if's. Later on down the road she will have to have DNA tests made to check her descendancy...she comes from Germany and her GM from Pommern (Poland I believe). If she has the gene then it will be in her best interest for her have the second mastectomy. All I care is that she lives.

I don't know how often I'll be on here...its getting real busy.

    Hi Reagan, Our thought will be with Marie and with you during this very active time of stress and planning.
    Hopefully, Marie is fluent enough in english that she will feel comfortable enough to come here and participate on the boards and let us help her with some of the questions she may have.
    Is she going to consider reconstruction?
    please return whenever you or she wants and attend to any parts of the boards you desire to ask questions of these well informed women and men about treatment or whatever your concerns may be.
    We will do anything we can to ease this difficut time for you both.

    Iodine....thanks for the reply. She may chime in I hope in the near future. She is considering reconstruction but I said that if she doesn't want it then that would be fine with me. I can't stand what she is going through as is and think the less invasive the better when it comes to treatment. She has very little fat to donate for reconstruction and unfortuneatly I can't donate my fat....(I know...bad joke). I have to leave the final decision on reconstruction up to her.

    There are other forms of recon if she's interested that don't require fat, but she can find that out.
    There's the Reconstruction Guidebook by Kathy STeligo, which covers everything very well and is good to know BEFORE a mast. Amazon.com can get it to her quickly or she can review info on this site.
    By the way, any jokes are good, bad or otherwise, beats the heck out of tears all the time, I'd say. Saves sanity!

    Reagan, sorry to hear you and Marie are members of the club. My wife, Ruth was diagnosed in 2003 at Stage III. She is now at Stage IV (probably was at the time of diagnosis, but the other locations weren't large enough to image). The best advice I can give is to understand that your role is to minister her and support her. That means physically and emotionally. I hope and pray that you do not have to follow the same course, most don't. This is not the end of the world, just a slightly different path. Although there will be scary and tough times ahead, there will also be good times and plenty of laughs yet.

    Pain is inevitable (pardon the spelling), misery is a choice. That is the title of a book, and it is also words to live by.

    Time Warner has chosen a bad time to mess up with my services. Currently using a hot spot. Will get on when I can. First chemo on Monday. Had an Echocardiogram and another CT yesterday.

    Thanks for the welcome to the club. I take it that we pay our dues every day, huh?
