I finished chemo in Nov 06, finished rads in Jan 07. Been doing walking, jogging, lifting light weights. Started a yoga ( very strenouse one) last week. Well Mon. I noticed this vein, looks and feels like a violin string? They did cbc, and cloting test. Saw my regulare doc. He said it must have been from a truma?? Then vein clotted up and died??? Says it will hurt for a few weeks. What the heck. COuld that be from chemo? He said it was a rare thing, usually happens to veins in arma after surgery ( I had a port on the other side). Anyhow anyone else have anything like this happen. It's really sore when I move or bend sorta scary.
Thanks
Myrna

Hi Myrna, my goodness maybe you are working too hard!
I'm so sorry this has happened, it must be very painful and scary but I'm sure glad you saw the doc.
Did he give you anything for this discomfort?

Myrna, I have those. Not to panic my friend!
It is called Mondor's Disease and it happens after breast surgery. People think it can only happen under the breast, but I have them, right now, under my "new" breasts running down my rib cage, running ABOVE my breast to my collar bone, down the inside of my arm all the way to my wrist.

It is a form of a blood clot, but not the kind that causes a stroke. I take Alleve for it.

They take a couple of months to go away. Sometimes you can feel them getting gritty like there is sand in the vein and that is when you know they are breaking up.

They CAN BE VERY PAINFUL so here is a gentle ((hug))!

    Love,
    g

There is no shame in dropping back to a gentler Yoga class.
I was doing one marked I/II and developed pretty major problems on my reconstruction side. That particular teacher did a lot of twists and on my recon side there is just not that much tissue to be twisting. My side was sore, my arm was sore -- it lasted several weeks.

I like to think of myself as fit and healthy. But I had to stop going to her class because the things she likes to do just don't go good with my particular anatomy.

You can always do an easier class and work on perfect form and take the poses to their max. I find that is better than popping into a harder class where the base poses are a "stretch" to begin with.

I know your right Rose but darn it I enjoyed the strenuouse yoga, came out of there just dripping, but I figured I was getting rid of toxins. I made me really happy felt strong, could feel strength/ then stupid vein thing. My doc said I could keep up with yoga, but he is my GP and didnt really explain what it was I had. Reasearched Mondor's desease and still havent really fiigured out the cause of this. Anyhow thats everyone for the advice, really scared me, kept thinking fo darn blood clots.
    thanks

Hey mayrnainc! Been wondering where you've been! Doing the yoga...it can be a real workout. My friend really hurt herself physically, and spiritually...got to be careful.

Why not try Pilates? It's gentler, but less strenuous.
Ugh, the vein popping (Mondor's ) is something I read about as one of the side effects from chemo. Particularly A/C. I also did not think it was supposed to happen with a port...oh well. More fun stuff to consider, eh?

Cheer yourself up by singing, (to onc) "you're so vein, you probly think this song is a hypodermic needle" lol.

Hope all is well... so good to hear you're doing well and keeping the keeping on going on!

    (hugs)

    Hey Indi,
Hope your doing well, been soooooooo busy at work not very active on here anymore. Miss our visits though, you doing OK?
Hey where did you read about MOndors and possible chemo effects? I cant figure out if it's from breast surgery, and why? and now maby from chemo?? I had a port so veins didnt get direct hit, port is on the opposite side of this stupid vein thing. I think my stomach may be getting bloated/going to call onc in the AM and just check with the nurse about all this. Also cant keep anything in me for the last 3 days? maby just a belly virus?? Anyhow if you can remember the site would you send me info??
    thanks and hope your well

    Myrna,

Thinking about you, how is it going? Haven't been on line much, as the summer zooms and everything in this house keeps breaking. I swear, someone has a vodoo doll called Indigoblue and keeps poking it, twisting, tossing it in a mudpuddle, etc.

You're no sissy! Beautiful, powerful, brave, and courageous, dynamic and spirited with joy of life: that's you! Sometimes a stubbed toe hurts more than a broken bone; This ride through woogyland isn't my idea of "fun".
Glad to know you're okay...let us know what's up and how it all goes. Miss ya!

    ((hugs))

    Indi
