Good Evening My sisters,
I am finally sitting down after doing a few fix me ups around the house and then I proceeded to rip out the awful carpet in the one part of our basement and painted the floor a grey colour to match the rest of the basement. It looks nice and I am finally happy with the house now although I would love to paint the back deck hum not likely too much work and we have spent so much money this month it will have to do the way it is.
Has anyone ever used that mono foam stuff that expands, OMG I didnt realize how much it inflated!! I put some behind the tap in the shower as one of the taps is a little uneven and the foam stuff literally doubled in size haa haa my laugh for the night.
Brenda thankfully you were able to secure a new flight and all is not lost. I dont land until 8:15 pm. as I work on the Thursday so I guess you can still check into the room when you get there as the reservation is secured under my name. Can anyone tell me if that is the way it works?
Debbie444 you look healthy and I dont see a big neck. Take advantage of your time off to relax. You must have our rain as we havent had much in the past month. It has been beautiful but not the best for the grass and trees. We had a big thunder boomer last week that lasted all of 20 minutes, there is a chance of rain in the forecast this week though.
Tracyseattle your gift to yourself sounds great. I have an ipod that can download your pictures. The added calendar feature would be great for your new job.
Cindy glad to hear that you are coping well with this new chemo regime. Nauropathy is quite common with the taxene family, cant remember if you are on taxol? Yah, almost ½ way there sounds good!
Have a super evening my sisters.
Love
Michele -
My neck isnt big now as it has come down.
IOt is STILL raining - we live in hill country - and we are on flood alert ????????? OK got to go - Mark off poorly -
Mornin...
Oh wait..it's afternoon!
glad to hear your neck is okay now, Debbie. That's a good sign that things are looking up for you. Hope no flooding in the hills!
Michele..my goodness you have done it again! Ripping up carpeting and painting the floor!! You energy is astounding!
I have no idea if somebody else will be able to check into the room before you do. Maybe we need to put Brenda's name on the list so that either you or her can check in. I am not arriving until Fri. When does Paula come?
Tracy..you deserve this new Palm and it will be so helpful for you. I know lots of people who have one. Keep trying to convince my dh to get one. He forgets appointments and even forgets to set his cell phone to remind him. Maybe he'd plug it into a palm if he had one...he told me NOT to buy him one!
Cindy..you sound great. I'm happy to hear that fatigue is the main event with this round of chemo. I had slight numbness in my toes during Taxol and some heaviness in my legs, but only towards the end and that all went away.
Okay..back to work...have been working diligently on some art projects. Time to finish them up... -
I ordered the HP version of the Palm on-line last night. It has a Windows operating system. It also has microsoft word and excel - can't imagine why you would want to do anything with documents on a handheld PC - but I guess I will find out!
This is the time of year that it is kind of hard for me to live in the Northwest. Everyone else in the country has sun and nice warm summer temps. It is 50 here and raining. UGH!
Dave is going to the Mariner's game tonight with the guys, so I get the house to myself - just me and Denali! I'm so boring, I will probably just go to bed early!
Have a good day girls, I will catch you all later! -
Hey ladies! Five more days until the end of the fiscal year and then I can breathe again. Somedays its not easy being me.
Tracy: When you get your PDA you will wonder how you ever managed without it. I've been a Palm addict since about 1997, I think I'm on my fourth model now. My life is in that thing. One time it went blank and I hadn't backed it up for a while, I thought I'd have a stroke!!
I haven't taken any photos with the blonde hair, Cathy has one which I thought she would have posted by now, she's been MIA for a minute. Calling Cathy... some other folks have been absent as well, hopefully its only the summer weather that's keeping them away. -
Really raining here - we have had a months worth of rain today - cars floating , trains not running , schools shut , the lot. Just love Summer!
-
OMG - what a nightmare , floods everywhere , luckily we live on a BIG hill , but Catherine is stranded at school - has been for 3 hours . Rog and his Dad have gone to try and get to her and the others from our village. Bridges have gone , villages cut off - cant last for ever surely!
-
Can you ladies believe that I havent been on any trip since you last heard from me. My note to Amy was sent from the airport in NYC on my way back home almost two weeks ago.
But being on the go for several weeks really clogged up my life at home.
Im going to share a few pictures with you all just to remind me what I have done and what I have promised to tell you about.
May 2-May 7 The visit to my cousin in Germany and the wedding of my young Jewish friend in Alsace. Pictures are all of the luncheon and dinner. Food is always high priority to me. It was easy to eat healthy there.
May 26-29 Wedding of my cousins daughter in Palo Alto. The elephant was what greeted me in the lobby of the hotel and made me think of all of you. There were 7 of us 14 cousins at this wedding and several from the next generation. Some of us spent time the morning of the wedding walking around Stanford University. The picture is of the Memorial Church in the Quad.
May 29-June 13 New York specific purpose was for my surgery. Pre-op exam on May 31. (Was supposed to have lunch with Tracy but thought appointment was at 2:15 when actually it was at 9:15. I had a message on my phone asking me when I was going to show up for the appointmentthey took me in at 11:30. I signed up for a clinical trial for a new type of silicone implant.

I figure at my age if I can be part of a study that will improve "long-term appearance and quality of life" for other breast cancer survivors why not go for it. It's a 10 year study and I intend to be around for its completion!
So I had the implant on my left breast, reduction and lift on my right breast. On the day after surgery I was feeling great so went out for a walk. I crashed after that for a few days but am feeling almost 100% now. I am very happy with the results. I havent been this small breasted since I was a teenager. Now I have to continue to work on getting the rest of my body to match. I am continuing to eat right and weigh less than I have in many years.
OK girls heres the picture of Tracy and her great blond hair. We had a really nice dinner together. Tracy is just exactly what she seems to be here. Really funny and genuinely nice!
Our short walk to see Manhattan from the Brooklyn side was really enjoyable. The neighborhood where we had dinner is a beautiful area of the city.
This last picture is of my dd, sil, and two grandkids taken by me from my almost permanent spot on their couch.
I have more to tell you all and also want to catch up with your happenings but this is enough for now. -
Cathy: Your DD and her family are sweet! Congrats on the newer, perkier breasts.
Tadah: Blondie looks good on you too! -
Meeshell -
Here it's called "Great Stuff" - and yes, it's very EXPANDABLE! We learned the hard way...we had a WoodPecker drill a hole into the side of our house, and Roy filled it with that "stuff" and OMG - it came pouring out! It really is great stuff though!
Debbie -
So glad you're doing better...Cat...stuck at school because of floods...no way you and Rog will let her stay there...you two to the rescue!
Cathy -
FABULOUS photos! Wow...you really are OUR WORLDY ONE! Your dd, sil and gk's are adorable! You all have that "ear to ear" smile! You have done really well with the surgery, and you should pat yourself on the back....!
----------------------------------
I had an allergic reaction today to one of my rx's that I have been taking for 4 years! It was really weird...I broke out with a rash on my left thigh. It itched beyond belief...put Hydocortisone cream on it and that helped. But it's weird that all of a sudden I developed an allergy to it? Of course I'm thinking it's something really bad...oh well - whatever... -
Well we got Cat back - just gone 8 in the evening. Shes set off again this morning on the buses - goodness knows when we will see her again! Took ages to get Mark to school, lots of the roads are still under water or covered in mud so it is grid lock. A couple of peole dies locally so it is a little sobering.
Cathy - wow - the food looks yum! I thought they were fish until i looked close and they were pineapples!
Laura - heres hoping its just fleas ! No seriously hope all is good.
Tracey - the hairs looking good.
Debbie -
Cathy - love all the pics!
and TaDah, great hair!
you wont believe it girls, but i am sick yet again.. damn cold. So i've been sniffling and coughing for the last 3 days. -
Debbie
Saw pictures of your area on the news this morning but seeing your pictures and your comments makes the "news" real. Hope you and yours continue to be safe. Also hope you are feeling better.
Much love -
Yikes!!! Debbie! STAY HOME! That is incredible, I hope you are all safe and dry!
-
Hello,
Hope all well - had to check up that Debbie was OK and not under too many feel of water. Debbie - Gosh you have had it bad. Perhaps you should have a holiday in DRY Edinburgh rather than me coming down to your neck of the woods !!!!
Hello everyone. Glad to see you are all progressing through whatever trials and tributations you all may have.
Best Wishes Jill -
Jill - when was it you were coming - horrible feeling we are camping in Windsor , going to Legoland to use our Tesco vouchers!! Cross fingers it is a different date.
Kids most excited as we have bought a new tent - i dont do back to basic camping so the friends we are going with have booked the site and PROMISED me the weather will be good! -
Just skimmed the posts. No time really to write.
Debbie..please stay safe. Looks awful! Keep the kids safe and away from all that water.
Cathy..pictures are wonderful. You have a lovely, lovely family and you look great. So glad you and Tracy had a date together.
Tracy...You look beautiful! I guess it's true..blondes have more fun!!!
Am very busy with art projects and guests! My SIL hangs around a lot. So far I haven't smacked her or found the need to. My sister's husband and their oldest daughter who is 27 just landed in Israel on a synagogue trip (he is the rabbi). I met them for lunch because they were 5 minutes from my house! Now I'm off to catch up with them in Haifa with my daughter because she wants to see them.
Be well everybody.
Jill, good to see you here.
Paula..that is not fair. Feel good soon.
Laura..hope the rash goes away... -
Just a few lines to catch you up on the past two weeks and to explain why I was absent.
June 13-flew home. June 14- Organized house for weekend (had it cleaned while I was gone) Got beds ready and clothes washed from trip. Son Mike and gd came from SD to help. (Change light bulbs, put salt in softener, temp. fix washing machine) June 15-rest of family arrived at various times from NY, OR, SD and MN. Everyone home except for one dil. That night hosted Buffalo feed for 200 people at our farm. (Annual event connected to our local toy show that we sponsor) Sat and Sun-various toy show activities including pedal pull (grand son won for 4-yr-olds) Mon-Family/board meeting. Tuesday all kids left. I drove OR son to Fargo to catch his late afternoon plane and found time to buy two new sports bras so I could ditch my surgical bra.
Wednesday June 20-tried to catch up at the office and make last minute preparations for our communities 125th anniversary. Friday, SD family returned. Sat morning drove our Gator in parade w/son and threw out Frizbees. Afternoon informal meeting w/ husbands class. Went home early and was in bed by 9:00. Sunday-family left and I became once again a couch potato.
Life is once again sort of back to normal.
Have read all the posts finally.
Kelly, by now youve had a day off. Hope things slow down for you soon.
TracyS-yoo hoo! You got the job at Nordstoms. Way to go. Congrats on new family member, Denali. Sounds like the perfect dog.
Brenda- I think youll be the greatest kindergarten teacher ever. Change is always hard. Thanks for the nice words about my family.
Vhappy to hear you are busy painting. Its in your soul. I checked out the recipe link. Think it would be fun to share there.
Cindyyoure doing it! Was Taxol part of your chemo protocol the first time around? Sorry I missed your birthday. Sounds like it was a good one.
LauraThanks for the agendaNavy Pier seems to be a good choice for Saturday. Hope the rash turns out to be nothing.
RoI suppose you are on your wild Florida vacation. Bet youre having a good time.
Lindathink about you, your sister and your grandson often.
Micheleyea! Scoobys home. Sounds like she is doing well. Im sending you this very strong wish for your house. SELL, SELL, SELL!!!
GailHope youve healed up from your spill. Im doing really good with loosing weight-know it would be better if I would exercise.
MaryLove your idea for show & tell. Have to give it some thought. Pictures are a must.
TracyNYHad wonderful time with you at the Tai restaurant. Heres hoping we get to celebrate your birthday in person.
Really loved it when Gail brought family pictures to our meeting. TracyNY had pictures of her recent trip too. In person we can share more personal things with each other.
AmyStill hoping youll be able to meet with us in Chicago. Hope you figure out the dog dilemma soon. With age I have developed some patience but have not always been that way.
Mary-AnneIs dragon boating into full swing? I just bought a very small kayak and as soon as I can be fully immersed in water Im trying it out. We have a very little lake on our farm and I have a cottage on a small Minnesota lake. Lamoure also has a man-made lake so have options of where to go.
JillAlways good to hear youre still with us even if infrequently.
Debbiehope water recedes soon. Sound like just one more Debbie adventure. Really looking forward to seeing you and your family in Chicago. Im trying to work out a way for Erin to either come with me or to fly into Chicago for the weekend.
DebYou have to be a busy as I am but somehow you manage to continue to post and uplift all of us almost every day and usually first thing in the morning. Thank you! I have only a sister and my dh was an only child so have not had the pleasure of a sil. My dh however invented a sister who lived in San Francisco and often commented on how awful she was. When he died there was a chair reserved for her at the celebration of life we had for him at our farm. Thankfully she didnt show up! LOL
Paulaanother cold. Bummer. Im going to pm you an OTC remedy. Dont know if you even have it in Aus. Was going to say that summer colds are the worst then remembered its not summer there. Hope you feel better soon
Will I ever become a "post often and short" person. Doubt it. -
Cathy! So nice to have you back. I admire all of you that can respond to each person, I am just not good at it or maybe I am just too impatient to type that much!
-
Debbie -
OMG - Are you guys okay!?!? Knowing you though, you're probably surfing in it all. But really, let me know...the rash is gone, but I have huge bruises from scratching it. It's so weird...I took my meds separate today to see if I had a reaction to each one and NOTHING! Maybe it was stress? Who knows...the human body is such a tricky thing! Hope you're all doing well.
Paula -
Sick again...you poor dear! I think the heat and himidity of Chicago in August will stomp out all your ailments!
Meeshell -
You never stop! Any offers on the house? Hope you're doing well.
--------------------
EVERYONE -
The rash is gone...can't figure out what the heck caused it. Hope it never returns. This Friday is my 3-month ONC visit. I am very nervous. Not that I think anything is wrong with me, but I am in a denial phase, and I'm tempted to say "NO BLOOD TESTS, NO SCANS". Roy is concerned about this. But I can't explain why I feel this adamant. Maybe in the next couple of days, I'll change my thoughts. But it's so weird. And again, all I can say is that it's somewhat of a denial thing. Go figure!
I hope you're all doing well. Think about you all every frickin' day! I've been very busy still, outside of house, inside of house and my paying job too!
If any of you have any question re: the get-together, PM me or call me...
Luv ya all! -
Hey! Where are Kelly and RoseMarie???
-
Hi ladies!! Just a quick note - I skimmed a few posts but I think I have 6 pages to catch up on...maybe more!!
I'm at my sister's house and this is the first time I've gotten on a computer in more than a week!!
I drove down with the kids (13 hours!) they did GREAT! We then drove down to Cocoa Beach where Mike was working - saw the Kennedy Space Center (very cool), went to the beach, and on Friday went to Universal Studios Islands of Adventure.
Mike's working in Tampa this week but the kids and I are staying in Tallahassee and just hanging out with family. Mike will fly to Tallahassee on Thursday,
We have a wedding on Saturday, leave for Disney on Sunday, come back to Tallahassee on Wed. and will spend Wed.-Saturday at a nearby beach on the Gulf.
WHEW!! I miss chatting but will be back in no time!!
I hope you are all doing well!!! -
Hey Rosemarie - - so good to 'see you'. Sounds like a great time you are having!
The floods have subsided greatly , around us we just have mud now. A lot of stores will not be opening for a while and the nearby motorway is still shut.. That is because a nearby dam is threatening to go - it has stopped raining but it is still running in off of the moors. The dam has cracked , and we cant find a little Dutch boy to stick in so they have evacuated the villages in imminent danger.
Paula - you are having a rough time arent you. Heres hoping this is the last cold of winter.
Meeshell, any joy with the house? You should raffle it off!! It would add a little excitement!
Ok School run time
Debbie -
yikes..I'm busy today. no time to write...
OMG..I see THE Dr. Dick today! Wish me luck!!!
will write again when things calm down here.
RoseMarie..good to see you back on!! -
Hi all, sorry I have not kept up. I was away at the beginning of May and then again at the end. I can't seem to keep up with all your posts, as much as I'd like to. Also I visit my sister several times a week, and it takes a big chunk out of the day.
Also, I have been reading the boards less, and part of this definitely is related to the fact that so many of our posters unfortunately are dealing with mets. I don't know about everyone else, but I still have strong fears of recurrence and mets, and even though I lead a "normal" life, the fear is in the back (or front) of my mind much of the time. Reading about everyone's struggles here makes me sad and discouraged sometimes.
We were in Chicago for a wedding two weeks ago - very close friends who were extremely supportive during my treatment - she is a b.c. survivor and he had kidney cancer. Their daughter got married.
My son and d.i.l are coming for a week with their little boy this Thurs. - I am very excited to see them. However, my daughter Devorah (25) is leaving for Prague and Israel for 3 weeks and won't get to spend time w. them - she is very disappointed (she booked her trip months ago and they just found out they could come).
On a happy note, Isaac has done amazingly well with his implant - the therapists are very pleased w. his progress. (I dont know how to post pictures).
Okay, now to my sister. Since this happened to her, we were given very little hope or encouragement for any kind of recovery, since the stroke was considered "massive" in doctors' words. She was just terrible for the 2 months in hospital - agitated, crying, distraught. Then almost a month ago she was moved to an excellent rehab facility. We now see significant improvement (she still cannot walk and is not expected to be able to) but mentally she is alert, understands pretty much everything, and is improving her speech (can say several words) and responds to questions. The problem is that rehab is only 3 months and I feel she could benefit from much longer.
My "baby" 21 years old has a serious girlfriend and wants to get engaged. I am so not ready for this! He is a cute and charming kid, and I just can't see him being ready.
Love to all,
Linda -
Linda..good to see you back! It sounds like your sister is doing better. Is there a chance that you can keep her in rehab a bit longer? Will she have more speech therapy after her stay in rehab? She can continue to improve once she's got a good start as long as she continues to get the therapy she needs. Do you have home health in Canada?
Oh no! That must be hard to see that your "baby" wants to get married! 21 is young but not tooooooooooo young! Seems though that everybody is marrying older these days.
If you want to post pictures, photobucket is easy to use.
Well, Ladies..I DID have my appt with Dr. Dick and she is really nice. My name on my card that I have for the HMO is not right. It's kinda funny. In Hebrew my name is Devora Leah. But in Hebrew they left out the last letter in the name Leah and it now says Devora Lo and "lo" means NO! Well, this doctor got a kick out of this (as have others) and I was thinking to myself..if only she knew how funny HER name was! -
Hello to all:
So glad to read all your news and events. Love all the pictures.
Spent part of the weekend caring for my sister's black lab who had unending vomiting. Poor Stella was sick, sick and on Monday the vet put her in doggie hospital. They are giving her intravenous antibiotics, fluids and keeping her off all food and drink to let her tummy calm down. As of now, I do not think he knows why this happened. I am scheduled to pet sit for 9 days beginning Sunday so I hope he gets her well again before then.
We are preparing for the visit of 2 of my nieces from Utah. They arrive next week.
Sad day in my town. Five young women, who just graduated high school last week, were killed in a horrible car crash last night. We did not know any of them personally, but of course, in a town like ours, it is a big shock to everyone. This high school had a tree planting ceremony and a scholarship 5K race in honor of my friend's daughter, Natalie, just a couple of weeks ago. Now this tragedy. It's a tough day.
Well, I must finish my day's work now.
love to all,
Mary -
Tracyisnt it funny how we all wish for ourselves what other people have or do. I wish I could keep up and post like you do when its really needed or share whats happening in my life as it happens. Curly hair wishes for straight. Straight wishes for curly. I personally also wish I were as committed to the cure and comfort of all cancer as you are. I guess what Im saying is we are all different and Vive le Difference. Lets celebrate!
Debbiehave been following the flood situation on line. See there may be more rain in store for you. Hoping and praying it doesnt materialize. Your sense of humor (no little Dutch boy) always cracks me up
Debgood luck with Dr. Dick. We have people with that name in our area. There is a sign on the highway saying Englevale-34 friendly people and one Dick (Started this this morning and youve asked the same thing I did of Linda. Glad you had a laugh at the doctor's)
Rogood to hear from you-driving to Florida with 3 kids reminds me of when I use to drive to Texas w/ my three oldest. Sounds like youre all having a good time.
Linda-it was really good to hear from you. It IS hard to keep up. Happy to hear your sister is getting help from the therapy-is there any way for it to be extended? Glad Isaac is doing so well. If the stories of the mets are getting to you, try to focus on people like your friends in Chicago who seem to be doing well. Life at times is hard for everyone and fear is real. Its good that you are able to express it here with us.
One of my employees just sent me this:
I heard that Apple Computer announced today that it has developed a computer chip that can store and play music in women's breast implants. The iTit will cost $499 or $599 depending on the size. This is considered to be a major breakthrough because women are always complaining about men staring at their breasts and not listening to them.
Almost fell off my chair laughing. Looks like I missed out on this wonderful new thing! -
Mary -
So sad...5 young lives snuffed out! You have had your share of tragic events this year. We had 3 teenage girls die in a crash not fat from here a few weeks ago. My niece Nicole knew one of them and she was devastated. Why, why, why?
Debbie -
How are you guys doing? A little soffy I would imagine.
Graycie -
Where are you?
KELLY -
WHERE THE HECK ARE YOU?
Cathy -
Oh My! I am shocked at your post/joke...LOL Too funny!
ravdeb -
Okay...I'm totally amused with the Dr. Dick thing! Too funny...
RoseMarie -
Wow...you have an incredible itinerary! Lots of fun and safe travels are sent your way.
EVERYONE -
Hope you're all doing well. I would love to know who/how many are coming in August. I think it's everyone except Linny, Jill and possibly Amy? Am I right or wrong...? -
I also am very curious as to exactly who is coming in August.... I hope it is ALL of you!!! :-)
Mary - so sorry about the tragedy in your town. I know that it would devastate our community if something like that happened here...
Linny - so glad to see you back, glad your sis is doing better and I hope you find a way to let her stay in the Rehab.
RoseMarie - so glad to hear that you are having a great time!!! I love FL!
Well, gotta run, past my bedtime! Love you all!
