    Dear Ferne,

I agree with tender. Going to a major cancer center near you to get things moving may be the way to go. July 11th seems a long time to wait especially since you've already been dealing with some respiratory problems.
Thinking of and praying for you,
    Hugs,

    Hi Everyone,

Kate, I was also told that these doctors aren't taking new patients. I'm from NYC and my family still lives there.

The place I'm getting my second opinion at has a cancer center at the hospital and is part of a university, but I don't think it's a major one like MD Anderson and Dana Farber and Sloan. My onc also suggested Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. I called and the person I spoke to took my information and gave me a list of everything I need to have faxed over. They are booking appts for the end of June, but she said they might be able to see me sooner depending on my situation. I just need to make sure my health insurance will cover this since it is out of area and might be counted as a 3rd opinion since I already have the appointment at the other place.

July 11th does seem to be a long time which is why my regular onc is seeing me again a little bit sooner. In the meantime I'm trying to get scheduled to get a port, but now I'm a bit hesitant because I don't know what's going to come of all this.

Jeez loueeze. The first time around with bc was so much easier.

Thank you all for keeping me in your thoughts.

    Hey Ferne

Just checking in on you... Did you have any luck getting something sooner at the Roswell place? What's the status on the port?

    Thinking about you...

    Hi Colleen!

Hope things are going well for you.

Still confused about alot, but slowly getting things in order. My insurance covers treatment at several comprehensive cancer centers, but will only cover one second opinion, so I chose the one closer to home. Roswell may have gotten me in sooner, but winters up here are nasty, and the drive not doable sometimes, so if I did treatment in the winter, and it was weekly, some days might be missed because of the weather or because I felt to crappy to drive.

The lead onc nurse where I'm currently at and I decided to cancel the appt. to get the port in until I get the second opinion and my chemo regimen is decided. I figure why get a port and then wind up taking pills or something? If I need IV chemo before my second opinion (I see my current onc before then), I can use my veins if needed for the moment.

My rad onc also wants me to have a brain MRI, so that's scheduled for Monday. I have frequent headaches and stuff lately, so she wants that checked out.

Thank you for thinking of me,

    Ferne

    Dear Ferne,
    Good thinking about the port!

I will be sending you extra good vibes and big prayers for Monday's brain MRI.

With the stress you have been under, I can't imagine WHY you have been getting headaches! I pray it is just the stress of all that you have been thru lately.

    Hang in there!!

    Love,
    g

Ferne - It's been ages - sorry, I was away on vacation for 2 weeks, and been having kind of a down week since I've been back.

How are you? What is the latest news? Did you get the chemo regimen figured out? And how did the brain MRI go? I'm hoping all is going as well as it can be.

    Hugs to you!

    Hi Colleen and Sue!

Thank you for thinking of me.

The brain MRI was negative, so the bc beast got mad and gave me skin mets instead. OY VEY. All over my booby and it hurts and itches like mad! And now there is a lump poking out of my neck on the non bc side and some lumps in the armpit on that side as well. These all popped up since my last post on this thread.

Needless to say, I now don't really care if I get a lung biopsy or not. The skin biopsy gave me all the info I need right now. Just waiting on the receptor status and stuff.

I did have the second opinion appointment and that went very well, but that onc is sending me back to my onc since they can't offer me anything better at this point. Trials are starting in August and September and I can't wait that long.

So I see my onc tomorrow and I would like to receive the chemo regimen suggested at the 2nd opinion appointment (Xeloda and Avastin).

All I keep thinking is I did chemo, lumpectomy with clean margins, radiation, and the cancer comes back there along with other places. What the heck!

So Yeah, OK, so I was at least Stage 2 at diagnosis and stage 3A after surgery...but still...

    Just had to vent.

    Hugs back to you both,

    Ferne

Ferne - how did you make out at the onc? Have you started chemo yet? How are the skin mets? I never even heard of skin mets! Sheesh! Hope you're hanging in there...

    Hi Colleen,

    How are you!

    I'm hanging.

I'm on Xeloda and Navelbine. Might switch to Avastin in 6 weeks. Side effects are manageable, but I'm so tired. I just want to sleep.

Skin mets sucks. They hurt, itch, burn and spread like crazy! I'm taking pain medication for it and I found something to help the itching, thank goodness!! It surely makes me forget about the other mets areas.

    Ferne
