Got Cancer? AGAIN????

Oh Deb of course you can complain. These are the residual problems that come along w/bc treatments and hair bothers women, it's just a fact. It is annoying having to worry about headcoverings all the time.
I may go thru the same thing after chemo, my hair is extremely thin now, always has been but it seemed more thin after my first time w/chemo so I may be sitting right beside you on this thing. -
I hate this the most.
I am always running for cover because the doorbell is ringing or there are people outside chatting and can see me bald inside the house.
I have emergency scarves by every door.
The last time I had cancer I lived on this secluded estate in the cottage. All I had around were racoons. Now I live in an overly friendly, busybody type neighborhood and it is driving me crazy! -
Hi G, hope you are doing well, you sound great and I love your spirit. That's a great idea keeping a couple of scarves by the door.
We live in a rural area and our home is up in the woods thank heavens, when hubby is at work it's me & the dogs, deer, turkey, squirrels, birds, all my fav things. lol
So this go around I could do the bald thing at home since no one wants to come down the drive w/the dogs barking and little do they know they wouldn't hurt a soul, just letting us know someone is here!
hugs, Pam -

Hey Dawn,
Sorry you have to rejoin us. I just had a bilateral, prophy on the formerly cancer side, and it was the best decision I ever made.
Good luck to you with what ever you decide!!

Thanks! I met with one of two breast surgeons I plan to talk with and she was totally supportive. It's nice to know I am not alone.
-
I am glad you liked your breast surgeon! That is half the battle right there!
Good luck! -
WOW...I can't believe I just found this sub-forum.
1st diagnosis Jan 1998...Happy __________ New Year!!! Had a segmental mastectomy followed by Tamoxifen. Diagnosis: 2.6cm colloid cancer, node negative, highly ER+ and PR+. I had 2 lumps removed at the time. One was found to be cancerous, the other was deemed benign.
2nd diagnosis Jan 2006....Happy __________New Year AGAIN!!! I had put my oncologist appointment off until after the holidays so they wouldn't ruin my vacation....sure glad I did. Anyhow, the PA at my oncologist's office found a new lump....I thought she was talking about my old lump. I had my new lump biopsied and they decided to do my 'old' lump (benign lump from first surgery which had never completely gone away). My surgeon was betting that the new lump was nothing and that the old lump was scar tissue......guess again! They were both cancerous. This time, I had a mastectomy with SNB. My 'lumps' were tubular carcinoma 1.2cm and 1.6cm. Both were ER+ and PR+. I am currently on Femara. Best wishes to everyone!!! -
Hi...This is the first time I've participated. I don't know all the abbreviations!!
6/05 DCIS, Right breast, 2 cm, Stage 0, node-negative, lumpectomy, rads
6/07 ??? Mammogram shows malignancy on right, biopsy results will be in 3 days. Also, 2 suspicious areas felt clinically on Left breast
I'm scared to death. I have 3 kids, 9, 11, 13. YIKES -
It's me again...forgot to mention I'm 46
-
I know how hard is to wait to hear the results of this test or any test for that matter. Know that you are being thought of and positive thoughts are coming your way!
If it turns out that the cancer has come back, there are sommany wonderful drugs on the market to choose from. This is a doable situation and I know you will be strong! Keep us posted! -
Hi Rubytuesday, I'm so sorry you have gone thru this again too and hope you are doing well now. Here's best wishes you never have another bad January or any other month for that matter.
Amy2 please let us know how your biopsy goes and what you find out, bless your heart. Of course your scared but hopefully after your biopsy you'll get a better idea of what you're dealing with and what you can do. Hopefully the suspsicious areas turn out to be nothing!
Waiting is the pits!! -
Thanks Pam for the well wishes. There should be a statute of limitations on the number of times you have to deal with 'the beast'.
Amy, I just went thru the waiting game. When I went for my mammogram on my GOOD side in April, they freaked out on me and sent me for an US, then they wanted a biopsy which is when I FREAKED OUT! After I blew, the good Dr. decided that MAYBE a MRI was a good next step. I just got the results of the MRI today and it appears that there are 2 cysts in my GOOD breast. I am 1 1/2 years past my last diagnosis so I REALLY couldn't imagine going thru this AGAIN. May your biopsy be benign and the other breast be 'all good'. Like I said above, NO ONE should have to go thru this more than once. Best wishes! -
Amy,
I do understand how you feel. I am now a Mom to a 3 year old. I hope everything goes well for you.

Good grief, how did I miss this sub-forum? Especially since it got created the day after I was diagnosed with my second primary? Sheesh!
My first go-around was in the fall of 2005, with a 4.5cm medullary tumor in left breast. Had mastectomy and dose-dense AC x4, Taxol X4. Implant on left, reduction on right.
This April, mammogram found a nodule in right breast. We thought it was probably scar tissue or fat necrosis, but NO! Turned out to be a 1.2cm IDC. Triple neg both times.
Had second mastectomy, with expander placement. Currently have finished three out of 12 weekly Taxol/Carboplatin treatments. This chemo has been much easier on me than what I had in 2005. Lower doses more often.
Just turned 49 on Friday and lost my hair last weekend. But I'm feeling pretty good and hanging in there. -
Hi Cindy,
Glad you found us, but of course sorry you had either occurrence. My cancer was very early stage both times, but the shock of a second primary was still great. Sounds as if you are coping well at this point. I'm glad chemo is less difficult this time around. -
Hello Cindy, like Barbara said we're glad you found us.
I'm so glad you are doing well w/your chemo. It sure stinks to be dx again!
Happy belated birthday too! -
Cindy I am so glad you are tolerating your treatments!
I started abraxane yesterday and so far all I feel is out of it a bit "off".
Good luck with the rest of your tx!
Love,
g -
This is a good forum to let other women know there are long time survivors. I have made it thru 3 times. My 1st time was 1981. I was 29 yrs old and 5 months pregnant. my cancer was 5 cm and positive in 3 lymph nodes. I had a lumpectomy and underwent 2 yrs of chemo. I then had it again on the same side in 1986. This time I had 6 weeks of radiation. I was again diagnosed with IDC on the other side in march 2006. This time I had a double mastectomy and then 6 treatments of chemo. I will be getting my reconstruction done in Aug. In the end it was all worth it I just got to see my daughter that I was pregnant with in 1981 graduate valedictorian of her law school.
-
Congratulations to you and your daughter! Your story is very encouraging.
-
I love hearing from long time survivors, thank you for your post!!
Congratulations to both of you, -
I join the group!
I had a right breast lumpectomy Oct 06, for DCIS grade 3 hormone receptive, followed by 5 weeks of radiation.
On June 07 I had left breast partial mastectomy plus Axillay dissection for IDC.
Awaiting path results .... and anxious.
But all of you encourage me!!! -
Hi Lilliput, I am so sorry that you are dealing again w/bc!
My goodness you just had your radiation last year and here you are waiting on more path results, of course you are anxious, bless your heart.
I was dx for the second time this last February and am currently doing Taxotere chemotherapy.
Please let us know how you are doing, this is a hard time for you, we all understand that. Sure hope you get good news on that path report. -
Guess I'm the "odd one out" in '02 I had a LEFT mastecomy for IDC... ( Stage 1 ER+ PR+ HR- 12mm small)Just wanted it gone. then in '06( almost 4 yrs to the date) I felt a lump on the mast side! Had to have 2 lump's to get clean margins Anyone else have "it" come back same side AFTER a mastecomy?
-
No, you're not the odd one out. I was stage 1 with mastectomy (er/pr-,her2+). Had AC and a year of Herceptin. On my last month of Herceptin noticed recurrences on my mastectomy side. Did radiation and am now doing Taxol & Herceptin.
It is not suppose to be common for it to recur after mastectomy, but it does happen. I also read that it's more common if your clean margins were < 5mm and you don't do radiation. My margins were only 2mm and I didn't do radiation. I think that study came out after the fact of course. -
I don't know if I qualify for this club or not. Had cervical cancer in 1990. Caught early. Hysterectomy with no other treatment. February 2005, I was dx with BC. 6 cm tumor, er+ pr- HER2-, all 18 nodes positive. Mastectomy, chemo and rads. Now on Arimidex. I hope to stay in remission and not have another for... oh, say 20 or 30 more years???
-
You got cancer again... you qualify!
I will join you in the 20 -30 year survival club- deal?
Hugs,
g -
I was dx in 2002, stage II....did the chemo, surgery, radiation...last summer it came back, Stage III... did all of it again...NOW... PET scan showed spot on my lung...Round 3! lol...We need sense of humor with this...I am waiting to hear from my Onc this week to set up surgery date, hopefully this week to remove the node in my lung.. I have been reading a lot about LUng surgery, now I am sorry I did...I didnt realize just how serious and what a major surgery this was.....WE WILL ALL KICK THIS IN THE ASS ALL OF US.... Love you ladies
-
Oh Golden Eyes I am so sorry the crappy cancer has come back even again. Yes we will fight and kick a**, you bet!
Let us know when you are going to have your surgery.
Bless your heart and big bear hugs, -
Golden Eyes- I am so sorry.
But you KNOW how to beat cancer- you have done it twice!
They can do targeted radiation on Lungs now. Tomo- therapy, etc. And it gets the tumors just as well as a surgical method.
You will beat this one too-
We are all behind you!
