Starting Chemo in JAN 2007

If you sent me your email address I have sent you the invite with the private chat room link. I think I am missing Cindy, tlc, tppj, Sharon (take your time) and Robbin Jaye.
Since we are doing the chats twice a week maybe we should make one later in the evening for the west coast ladies. If we start one night at 9:30 that would be 6:30 in CA. Any thoughts?
Nancy so glad there are no blood clots, but I sure wish they could figure this out for you. Congrats on the prosthesis certainly makes it easier to wear regular clothes. I hate mine still, but wouldnt want to do without it either. My insurance covered mine ($300), but later went back to buy one that I can swim in. That one was $190 but since Id already used up what my insurance would cover the shop gave it to me for ½ price. Made me wonder if they just mark them up to get more insurance money.
TPPJ I think bleeding can be a symptom of uterine cancer. Im sure its NOT in your case, but I would think it can wait a couple of days. Do make sure you mention it to them when you go in.
Skye - I am glad at least that you got the chance to tell the owner of those dogs how you feel. It might not help, but at least you tried. Is there a local animal control that you can call?
Hubby is sick again. Over strep but now its a sinus infection. Poor guy, he rarely ever gets sick. He must be worn out from all those months of taking care of me. Anyway, he went in to urgent care this morning, they gave him an antibiotic shot and he had a weird reaction pain shooting down his leg. Well, after the shot you have to wait around in case of an allergic reaction. So while he was waiting in the exam room (alone) he passed out! Of course he was standing up at the time so he fell and hit his head on the wall! Well they revived him, put ice on his head and kept him there for an hour. Meanwhile, the girls and I are all at home asleep (it was 8:00am) and blissfully unaware that anything is wrong. I have to admit Im a little pissed that he didnt call me! Anyway, that was our excitement for the day. We had a babysitter for tonight but I had to cancel. Not much of a fathers day weekend so far. -
Thanks Skye,
I sent Jan a PM about the chat room.
What a traumatic experience with those dogs. We have a few neighbors around us who let the dog out when they are in the yard. My hubby is the one who walks, though, and so far the dogs haven't run at him. Those big ones can worry a person even when they are "friendly."
There was a lady mauled to death near here last year. She was in her own yard and a neighbor's Rottweiler-Pit Bull mixes (6 dogs) got loose. It was in an unincorporated area of a neighboring county so there weren't any leash laws or animal control laws that could be enforced. The lady's family and the state legislator for her area sponsored a bill this term. I can't remember if it passed. The owner of the dogs stood trial for murder, but they could only prove negligence.
You are right to be cautious. -

Did you get the PM I sent you? I can send it again if you didn't. Thanks -
Debbie, I sent my email to Jan. Did she send it to you, or should I send it? I haven't received a pm.
Skye, that info re the dog scares me for you. Are you sure the police or animal control can't help you? Would your husband talking to the guy help? I don't usually ask my husband to do stuff like that, but I sure would if I felt unsafe in my own neighborhood. You need to feel like you can walk and regain your strength.
I had a nice day, busy but I think I am coming out of my funk. It's beautifully sunny and warm, and I went to the Farmer's Mkt, the library, did some gardening. I am looking forward to pampering my husband a bit tomorrow. I hope everyone else had a good day too. Sharon and Nancy and Mary and Mel, I hope you are all feeling better.
Night all,
Melia -

Hi, Melia, I got an email from someone. I think it was Jan. I had checked my inbox a couple of times before I noticed that I had something in the junk mail folder. You guessed it it was the link to the chat room. I moved it to the inbox, and I'll try to be there Tuesday.
Thanks -
Hi all,
I am having such a great time with my DD. She accompanied me to chemo yesterday. She said she will walk with me as often as our schedule allows. We had a nice long walk today and then we went grocery shopping. The bill was much larger than normal- she added a lot of stuff she likes. I forgot what it was like to have kids home. They eat!- LOL. Tonight my dh and I met friends for dinner in Providence. That was loads of fun. I hope I do not crash too hard tomorrow so I can enjoy Fathers Day tomorrow. My son is also coming home tomorrow so we will have a nice reunion.
Oh Skye,
What a scary experience. I am afraid of barking dogs that run at me. Its scary. I am glad you told him off. Now maybe they will not be out without a leash anymore. I hope you continue walking.
Hi Debbie,
Welcome to our group. Hopefully we can speak to you on Tuesday night.
Melia,
I hope you are feeling better today. Hopefully the lasix will start working . I know it is hard and getting harder towards the end, but we are so close to finishing---YOU CAN DO IT!!!
Only 3 more weeks.
Second post- I am glad you are feeling better. I know that day 3 & 4 are the worst for me too- always in a funk those days- I think it is the decradron. I had my tx yesterday- changed to Fridays b/c of an appointment. Today I feel great- full of energy-( the decradron)- then I will crash and feel crummy tomorrow and Monday. It is the same every week. I hate the decradron!- but- it is almost over!!!!
Caya,
I hope you are enjoying yourself at the Bar Mitzvah.
Lynn,
How was your Relay for Life?
Nancy,
I hope you are feeling better.
Tina,
I would call your oncologist just to be on the safe side.. He will probably tell you to wait until Monday and then you can relax.
Mel,
I am sorry you are not feeling good. I hope your cough goes away soon. Did you call your doctor about your cough? I hope you feel better real soon.
Jan,
Your poor hubby! Is he feeling better tonight? That is a good idea about changing the times.
Sharon,
I am glad you are feeling better. You sound much better. You had us worried.
I hope everyone has a great Fathers Day tomorrow.
Viddie -
Jan, sorry about your hubby, so scary that he passed out and hit his head. I logged into chatzy but now when I go back in it says it's it's being used by a registered user with my name and if I am that person I must log in, but I can't figure out how to do that. Help! Okay I figured it out. I went to log in, didn't know the password, had it sent to me and then changed it and told my computer to keep me logged in, so I think I'm okay. Hopefully no one else has this problem. See ya Tues. Happy Father's Day. Hope you feel better real soon Shorti.

Hi everyone,
I had a very busy day - The Bar Mitzvah was lovely, I managed to sit through the morning service and had lunch. I has an appetite by then, but right after I ate, I began to feel nauseous. This has been going on since I had my loading dose of Herceptin 10 days ago. Had a 45 minute nap in the afternoon, then off to my mother's for a family dinner - a close cousin in in from California so we had the family over, and as a nice surprise her sister from Vancouver came as well - so it was a nice visit. Still felt a bit nauseous, but ate - it seems if I eat, I get nauseous, if I don't eat, I'm nauseous. It's not terrible, but there - I have taken pepto bismal and gravol, they help somewhat. I think I am going to call the onc's office tomorrow and ask.
Another weird thing - last night when I undressed, some of the veins on my body were bright blue - not protruding, but is looked like someone had take a blue marker and outlined my veins. Didn't hurt, I felt okay, and I did not feel like shlepping down to the ER at midnight. So DH and I decided to see how I would be in the a.m. - the veins have faded a bit, so I will see how the day goes. This is probabaly some weird s/e from the Herceptin, but I will call the onc. office tomorrow, as I also have lower leg/foot swelling. Had this since my last Taxotere - over 5 weeks ago. I'm getting pissed off and depressed about this, a bit crabby and anxious - like can I not get a break already?
I hope I will be okay to go to the big Bar Mitzvah party tonight - DH really is looking forward to it as all the neighbours will be there and we do have a good time with them... and it's Father's Day and he deserves some fun too... sorry to gripe, ,
caya -
Nancy - glad you like your new boobs. I felt great with my prosthesis the moment I got it. It looks and feels so normal that I am sort of hedging on getting reconstruction. I will see how the girls here do with it.
Melia - hope you are feeling better.
Debbie - welcome to the group. We have a nice caring bunch of women here.
skye - what a horrifying experience with the dogs. Could a few of the neighbours get together and either A - talk to the dog owner or B - get the cops to talk to the dog owner. I think I mentioned recently how when I was a 16 my boyfriend's dog was jealous of me and nearly mauled me - then two weeks later it nearly ripped apart a 7 year old boy's arm - they had the dog destroyed - I have no tolerance for people who let their dogs run wild...
Jan - how's your DH - poor guy, what a terrifying experience for him. I hope his Father's Day will be better.
Shorti - glad you are feeling better. Where is the lodge downtown - Is it in PMH. Let me know, maybe I could pop by and visit you when I come down for a Herceptin infusion. Try Cotton Ginny for great elastic waist pants and shorts.
Viddie - sound like you are having a great time reconnecting with DD. Enjoy it - and I know what you mean about the food - it seems I am buying all sorts of extra things when my DDs are home - but that is okay.
I'm off to make some choc. chip cookies - can you believe I have another family get together tomorrow night - another cousin and her fiancee are visiting from Florida so there is a dessert and coffee night for us - well, as I told you all recently - that old Yiddish expression - Run to a simcha (celebration), walk to a funeral. So I am running (not literally, wish I could, don't have the energy).
Have a great Father's Day everyone
hugs
caya -
I lost my post blast it! to sum it up I am feeling a bit better, not as swollen yet still painful to get my legs moving. Skye, so sorry you have the endure that rude neighbor just to take a walk. Some people should not have dogs and he is one of them! Going to go before I lose this post. Have a good day EVERYONE including the DH'S!
Nancy -
Viddie,
Glad you are having fun with your girl. How did taxol 9 go? Only three more; you are so much more stoic than I am! Caya, what a fun weekend. You will need to rest afterwards, but have a blast in the meantime. And Nancy, so glad you are feeling better. I have been on lasix since Thurs and nothing is better, but nothing is worse, so I guess that's fine! -
Hello, my name is Pat and I'm from the Feb. board and noticed I'm in the same treatment schedule as several of you ladies here.....can I chime in every so often?
I had a rt. mastectomy on 1/9/07 for a 4.3cm mass ILC triple neg, nodes clear, one close margin but dr. says no indication for rads after chemo. My oncologist is great and trust her with all my heart to do the right thing. I just had #9 of 12 taxols this past Wed and before that had the 4 AC the was he##!! My main problem during this whole thing has been the fatigue although the taxol is much more tolerable, yesterday the only thing I could muster was deciding where to lay down, the sofa or bed. I am the single mother of a 22yr old DD who has been fantastic during this ordeal. Thank goodness today I woke up feeling much more like myself.
I've been on short-term disability since surgery and plan to return to work on 7/16/07....last chemo is 7/3/07.
Mel, hope you're doing well, I've kept up with your postings and no, chemo doesn't always knock out positive nodes. It's really something how everyones body reacts differently to chemo as I've heard of large 7+ tumors dissappearing totally and smaller ones not having same results. Try not to second guess too much, it will make you nuts.
thank you,
Pat -
Hi Ladies,
Went to the Relay for Life on Friday night. I got emotional a couple times, seeing all the survivors and the luminarias in memory of people. All the fundraisers Ive attended in the past were always about someone else, it was weird that this time it was about me. The survivor lap was a bit emotional so many caring people. We will definitely have a team and do the entire relay next year.
I woke up yesterday morning with additional pain around where my port was removed. It wasnt where the incision is, but about 2 inches above it. Looked in the mirror and its all red. It got worse all day and by evening it was extremely tender, red and hot to the touch. Called the Onc who said it sound like an infection and I need to go to ER, cant wait until Monday. So DH and I head to the ER on a Saturday night..woo hoo! They did blood tests and cultures, gave me a really nasty shot of antibiotics in my butt and sent me home with percecets and antibotics and told me to follow up with my Onc on Monday. They think the tunnel where the port was got infected. We got home at 3:30am.
Debby, welcome to our group!
Viddie, sounds like you are having a great time with your daughter. Nothing like spending quality time so the time goes by faster and before you know it, youll be all done with chemo!
Skye, I agree with the other girls, you should not feel afraid to walk in your own neighborhood. Have the cops or animal control give the guy a visit.
Caya, so sorry about your continued issues. I said the exact same thing to my dh last night. My feet are still swelling, Im already sick of driving to rads every day and now this..I need a break!
Sharon, so glad you are on the mend and feeling better each day! Whew!
Jan, what an awful experience for your husband. Geesh, passing out while you alone at the emergency room..who would have thunk? I wonder if he got the same antibiotic shot I got last night, it was by far the most painful shot I can remember. Hope hes feeling better.
Mel, hang in there, youve had it tough too. Hopefully your drains can come out this week!
Melia and Viddie, only 3 more! Woo Hoo!!!
Pat, nice to meet you and welcome to our group! I had ILC as well. You are triple negative? I believe its rare for ILC to be ER-. Only 3 more taxols for you too!
Big hugs to everyone, we sure are getting pulled through the wringer. -
Hi gals, haven't had time to read all the posts (33!) but had to let you know that I went "topless" today at church. I was so proud of myself and honestly, didn't get any more stares than with the scarf. I was planning to wear one but my dh said it actually looked better without. It was so liberating. I think that in another month and hopefully, another 1/2 inch of hair, it will look deliberate. It is still very short but people told me I just looked edgy and cool. So now about that scarf bonfire...
-
Hi Pat,
Welcome to our group. Viddie and I each have three more of the 12 taxols left. I did four a/c and although I think I feel better on taxol, the cumulative effect of the drugs is getting to me. I had four cm idc, no nodes ... we are all getting there!
Amera, you give me hope that there really is hair at the end of this tunnel!
Lynn, so sorry you have an infection. Hope your poor sore bottom is better today; we have had so many shots. The Relay for Life sounds wonderful.
Off for a bike ride with dh and a late lunch at our fav greek cafe to celebrate FDay. Poor guy gets so little attention these days.
Melia -
It felt so good just to sleep in this weekend. Just kickin' it with the 2 cats and the fan on full blast. IT'S HOT!!!
Here's my e-mail: robbinjaye@comcast.net
They didn't shut off my internet thanks to you guys!!!!!
Welp, one more week of rads. Whoo Hoo...
Now that I am entering the end of my treatment, I get a weird feeling. During treatment I felt safe. Now all I can think about is Please God, don't let it come back.
Have a great Fathers Day!!! -
Hey Skye, my daughter had her kidney transplant in 2001. A couple of weeks later she went for a walk in the neighborhood and a lady had just let her dogs out in the un-fenced backyard. The two dogs (and they were big) immediately ran to my daughter who was walking on the sidewalk and one of them bit her. It didn't break the skin, but she had a nice big bruise on her arm. The lady just said, "sorry" and that was it. However, I called animal control and asked them to talk to the lady. We didn't want them to issue a ticket, but she needed to know that authorities were aware of what she was doing. She was breaking the law and I also wanted to have a paper trail in case something did happen. I also took a picture of my daughter's arm, in case it got infected. It never did, but my daughter was able to continue her walks along the same route and never saw the dogs again. My husband loves to go for walks, and he always has a walking stick with him for that very reason. They work very well as defense mechanisms against dogs.
On a happier note, last Friday I was in my car waiting for the light to turn green, when the driver in the car next to me honked her horn. I looked at her, and she motioned for me to roll down my window, which I did. She then yelled, "last year I had hair just like you and look at me now." She had long, thick curly hair. Aren't bc sisters great? They know just what to say.
Pat, welcome to the group. The more the merrier. -
Lynn, and you want me to have my port out? I think I'll wait until after rads!
Welcome Pat to our group.
Future inlaws coming over for bbq. I think I might go topless! Maybe they won't ask for so much money towards the wedding if they feel sorry for me! ha ha -
-
Hi all,
Caya,
Sounds like you are feeling better today. Are you still nauseous? Did you go to the Bar Mitzvah party last night? How are your veins and swelling in your legs today? I hope you start feeling better soon. This whole thing is just not fair.
Nancy,
I am glad you are feeling better today.
Melia,
I hope the lasix starts working soon and your swelling goes down. I have my good days and my bad days. Yesterday I was feeling great. I always do the day after tx. Today is another story!! I am feeling #9 today. I am crashing slowly, and I have to make dinner tonight. Not looking forward to cooking, but I will recruit my kids. My dh, son, and daughter are at our cottage today, helping dh with some yard work. He will supervise today while they volunteered to help. You gotta grab them while you can. They want me to bring dinner there and cook it there. At first I said I would, but I just changed my mind. It sounded like a great idea this morning, but as the day wears on, I find that I do not have enough energy for that.
Hi Pat,
Welcome to our group. Both Melia and I had taxol #9 this week. I guess we are on the same treatment schedule. This is very tiring and long- but the end is near. Just a few more weeks!!! You can chime in whenever you want.
Lynn, I am sorry you had to spend last night in the ER, but I am glad they gave you antibiotics. Where are the bygone days of housecalls??? Has the infection gone down? I hope you could get some sleep when you got home. I hope you start feeling better soon. You definitely deserve a break!
Amera,
You go girl!! Thats great. Hair coming in is encouraging news. Thanks for sharing.
Mel,
I hope you are feeling better today.
Robertin, Thats a great story. BC sisters are great!!
Mary,
Lol. Have a great bbq.
Robbin,
Cool card!!
I hope everyone is having a great Fathers day.
Viddie -
Hi Gals, just got back from my weekend. We returned a day early after getting some unexpected and sad news from our cat sitter. Our eldest cat Bunky died in his chair while we were gone. She visited twice on Saturday, and I had called midday and heard that he was doing fine, good mood, good appetite, so this was a very sudden blow. But he was a very old cat definitely on the decline, and we were hoping to give him one last, very pampered summer.
Haven't read anybody's posts, but it is very nice to see that Shorti is back, and also to see that we have a post from Robertin.
Will catch up with more news later...
Mizsissy -
Oh Mizsissy, I'm sorry - I know you love your kitties.
There are so many posts. I have a hard time keeping them straight. I'm going to have to start sitting down with a pen and paper and make notes so I can respond intelligently. Well, maybe intelligently. I'm still claiming 'chemobrain' whenever I'm a little dense about things.
Welcome to the new ladies.
If any of you are baseball fans, I'd just like to say the college boys of summer are in town for the College World Series. Actually, they're across the river in Omaha but it's close enough.
What a great time that is around here. I only get to a game every 4-5 years but I enjoy watching on TV and reading all the stories in the news. Such fine young men!!!
9 rads left. Yea!!!!!!!!!! I'm really starting to feel more 'myself' from the chemo. The tiredness I get from the reads now is really a much different feeling than that chemo fog. It's a true tired as opposed to the deep, dark seemingly endless night of chemo. Of course the nap that I took today came on me without warning and I crashed for 90 minutes but I feel better afterwards.
I WILL be myself again one day soon, I can feel it coming - just with one boob and with a crazy new hairdo!
Hope everyone has a good week!
Cindy -
welcome we always welcome a new face here , hang out and let us in on how you are .
I am off on Tues to the Lodge in Toronto , Caya its on Jarvis Street and is not in Princess Margararet , I have my own room with another bed and if it gets buzy they add a roommate , but i do not expect that . Getting packed tomorrow and should start my rads on Wed , will know more Monday . There is a shuttle bus that transports people from the lodge to PM and Sunnybrook for treatments . The main reason for the lodge is for people like me who have to travel long distances or have othe medical problems which makes it difficult to receive what you need to get better . There are a few places like it in Ontario.
I am only going to be there for 2 weeks , just until i get my belly better ........ and its goin to be colourful its gay pride week in TO , the weather is supposed to be hot so I imagine in between treatments I will have alot to see
Weekends I am home so I will be long gone when all the parades start and the fun begins
Will touch base when I get set up .... all have a good week ! -
So sorry about Bunky, I know he was dear to you. Love ya, mer
Had a great bbq with the potential inlaws. Could not have picked better people to be involved in.
Tomorrow I am off at 3 am to drive my DS to his "free shuttle" at the airport 2 hrs away. Pray for a safe trip. I am taking the rest of the day off for rest, radiation and my oncolist appt. -
Pat Welcome and join right in, we are happy to have you. We have been chatting on Tues and Thurs nights and just set up our own chat room for this purpose. If you would like to join us sometime please PM me with your email address and I'll send the link to you.
Mary I cant figure out your chat room problem with chatzy. I dont have to log in our out at all there isnt even a place for that. I looked in all the help questions and cant find anything. Ill keep working on it and see if I can figure it out. Does it make a difference if you try again after your computer has been turned off or restarted?
DH is feeling better. Still feeling bad from the sinus infection, but his head and leg are recovered from his fall. The girls wanted to get him a video game for fathers day so we did. Well today when he opened it the case was empty. Really weird because it was shrink wrapped and everything. We ended up going to 2 stores before we found one with the game in stock so we could exchange it (that was 1.5 hours of driving around fun). Other than that it was a decent day. I fell asleep while putting my 3 year old down for a nap and slept for over an hour. Oops
Nancy Glad the swelling is starting to go away. I hope it continues to get better!
Lynn so sorry you had to spend Sat. night in the ER. That sounds horrible. I hope the antibiotics kick in quickly.
Amera going topless! Thats awesome! Good for you. I cant wait until my scalp is covered!
RobbinJaye sent you the chat invite. I am SO glad that you are almost finished rads then you can start healing. I know just what you mean about feeling safe during treatment. Actively doing something is a much more secure feeling than being done. Now I am focusing on eventual reconstruction, but I find myself thinking about recurrence all of the time.
Robertin I love the story about the lady in the car next to you. That is so cool.
Sharon the lodge in Toronto sounds nice. I hope all goes well there. Glad that you will have an internet connection.
Mizsissy I am so, so sorry to hear about Bunky. My sympathies. -
Hi,
Mizsissy,
I am sorry to hear about Bunky.
Melia, Nancy, Lynn, Caya , Mel and anyone else who has problems with swelling: I thought I escaped that s/e. Tonight is the first time my fingers, knees, ankles and legs are swelled. What gives? Do you think the hot weather has an effect on us?
Tonight I will try to elevate them and see what happens tomorrow. I feel so fat. What a rollercoaster.
Viddie -
Hello all:
Mizsissy, so sorry about your kitty, that is so hard to go thru.
Dan & I drove up to Banff on Friday. It was really a nice day. We went to the Banff Springs Hotel, built in the 1800s by CP Rail. We also went out to Lake Minnewanka. It wasnt all that warm here this weekend, in fact last night in snowed up in Kananaskis. Heavy wet snow, but it stayed around for most of the day! Yikes summer is suppose to start on the 21st.
I had lunch with a group of my girlfriends yesterday. It was nice to catch up on everything. My lunch with Dar last week was really lots of fun, and shes really nice. Im jealous of all of her hair!! Thanks Jan for posting the pic for us.
Lynn, I dont like the sound of that port infection. Make sure you keep us posted on your progress.
Shorti, sounds like your going to have some fun in TO. Im finished 14 of 20 rads, although I have 4 fields each day. Im a little bit pink now, and Im using the Glaxall cream they gave me. I find myself very tired, although it could be the weather too. I ironed almost all afternoon today, and watched the US Open Golf tourney.
Skye, those people should not be allowed to have animals if they cant even control them. That is not fair that you should have to be denied your walk because they are irresponsible.
Cindy how many rads do you have to have? Mary, some deal on the free shuttle if you have to drive that far!! Jan thanks for setting up the chat room, so what times on Tuesday & Thursday? 8:30 ET or 9:00 ET? Caya sounds like you had a funfilled weekend.
Nancy, I thought that was a lot of money for my prothesis too! Did you also buy separate ones for swimming? Did anyone buy the swimming one?
Melia, Nancy & now Viddie hope you are feeling better and the swelling goes down quickly. RobbinJaye, so with your rads how many are they going to skip? Glad that you still have Internet.
Mel, hope you feel better soon.
Welcome to Debbie and Pat.
Oh, and now I only wear a baseball cap to my rads. My hair is coming back in slowly, but it is coming in very dark with a bit of silver here and there.
Big hugs to all!! Joni -
MizSissy,
I am so sorry about Bunky!!!! Can I ask how old he was? My cats Ziggy and Angel (brother and sister) are 11 years old now. I wonder how long they can live.
~
Jem, (I like calling you Jem... )
Good luck on your reconstruction. If I get a reacurrance, that's what I'm gonna' do. -
Dar, my SIl is a colorist in Boston and she came w/me to the store and chose Loreal Natural Match...she felt the ingredients were better than what some of the other products contained. I did end up using Loreal Preference for a more lasting color. I'm happy to report that my repeated washings w/dish deterg. faded the black Elvira look to a very normal brown But no more Dark Ash Brown for me....sticking to medium solely. I'd say my grey is abotu as much as Robbin's. I dyed it so soon though, it's hard to tell... I'm much more comfortable with it brown and it's so inexpensive to do myself...plus the convenience of not having to wait for an appt.
Oh, my "spotting" turned into period #2 post chemo. You are right Dar...I didn't think Tamoxifen could have caused uterine cancer in 8 weeks.
