What's with my FSH results?

I posted this *same* message on the Her2 board but got no replies...I'm hoping someone here might have a answer? If not...no big deal.

When DX I was peri-meno. Two months after trt my onc checked my FSH...results were 77.29 which she said was in meno-pausal range. But my estradiol was always high unless I had zoladex in order to take Femara. I decided to get an ooph and that way I could quit the zoladex and just take Femara with no added problems.

So after having an ooph on 4-5-07 my onc checked my FSH again expecting it to still be in the menopausal range. But *instead* it was 6.3 which would make me peri-meno and that's not possible since I had the ooph. I asked her why it would go from 77.29 BEFORE my ooph to 6.3 after? She had no idea. So she ran my FSH again recently and it was even lower. This time 5.2. My onc said she has never seen anything like this & has no explanation for it. Does anyone have any idea why my FSH would go from menopausal to peri-meno AFTER having a ooph?

    I'm having absolutely NO luck in getting any replies on this questions of mine on *either* board. It must be one of those mysteries? I wonder WHO I can write that might be able to answer this question?

    I dont have the answer to your question but thought you might go to john hopkins bc web site and post the question to their medical expert, I believe her name is Lillian Shockely or something like that...

    Hope you get some answers soon...it will be interesting to see the answer as I had a complete hystorectomy in April but dont know any of the numbers yet....I actually didnt realize it was something I would need to know but plan to get them at my next appt.

    Please keep me posted on what they say....

    Jule, That's a good idea...I will write to Lilly Shockney. I sent her a email a long time ago and was shocked at how fast she got back to me. Thanks so much for the idea. I SO APPRECIATED it. As far as checking all your FSH & estradio...your probably fine since you had a complete hysterectomy.

    I only knew about my FSH and estradiol because I was 48 years old at the time and peri-meno and it was important to know if your peri or meno *before* taking an AI. I don't know your age or if you were menopausal already or if you did the hysterectomy to put you in menopause? But you should be fine. Actually, I should be now and thats why I am confused about my recent lab work. Especially when my onc said she has never seen anything like it. Makes me uncomfortable.

    I'm sure there are probably other explainations, but I found this one for you -

    "Ovarian remnant syndrome is probably present if a follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) level is in the premenopausal range after bilateral oophorectomy or if serum estrogen levels are normal. Cyclic menstruation in a woman whose uterus has been retained is also seen with this syndrome. After unilateral oophorectomy, the diagnosis is suggested by the typical clinical manifestations combined with a pelvic mass on the side of the oophorectomy."

    Marie, I searched EVERY WHERE online for ANYTHING I could find to explain this and came up with nothing. So you absolutely AMAZE me. I wanted the ooph because I am er & pr positive..but ALSO because I had a MASS on my right ovary which had to be removed. That paragraph alone explains everything...I really am blown away by your google/research skills. You GOOO GIRL. I seriously can't thank you enough for taking the time to dig that up for me.     ausborn, I am a member of the Her2 board. GREAT support board with some of the most knowledgable women I know of. Thats why I was surprised..I posted this question there first knowing for sure *someone* would have some kind of reply or answer for me...but NOTHING? I even bumped my own post up to the top 2 extra times and nothing. I just thought it was a total *mystery* since an answer could *not* be found on that board of all places. Not one reply. But thanks a million for suggesting it...at least maybe some others might see this and check out the board...its a GREAT source of information and a great bunch of women & men.
