my bikini came yesterday!!!

Options
Ok girls,

My long awaited bikini came in the mail yesteday. Now, I have not been running or working out because I had a hysterectomy a few weeks ago. I need to start up again and get going on sit-ups and this may be the perfect motivation. But...I tried it on and it fits perfectly!!! The top looks so cute. Now, I do have to suck in a little(don't we all do that) but if I wear it on a beach where no one knows me I will probably be ok. I am amazed that a two piece mast. suit can look so good. It will be funny to see people who know that I have not reconstructed. They will be looking at the top trying to figure out how I could possibly have 2 boobs. Anyway, it is an Anita suit. I may have to go online and order more now that I know what size fits me well.

Don't you love when you discover something that makes you look good??!!

    Carol,

That's great, I'm so happy the suit fits!!

I appreciate finding cute, somewhat-revealing clothes that look good on me now more than I ever did before. A surprising, but real bonus of my surgery.

Something else you might try is an exercise top (like a sports bra, only longer) and a bathing suit bottom in a complementary color. Sew a pocket in the top and you are "good to go".

YES, I do love it when I find something that I feel good in.

Heaven only knows if I look good, all that matters is that I feel good!

I didn't grow up near a beach. So when I moved to the Mid-Atlantic region I was amazed at what people wore at the shore. Women who I wouldn't think should ever even consider a bathing suit were out there! Lot of them in suits that I'd be embarrassed to wear.

I finally decided that they grew up living in bathing suits all summer and loving it. So when they put those rolly-polly bodies into suits they're happy. Being happy is all that counts - particularly if you've got a little tan!

    I say, buy another suit!

    Rose,

So funny that you responded! I am from NJ but next week (when the kids get out of school-yahoo!) we will be heading to MD for a beach vacation. My dad lives near Ocean City, MD and I love going there because no one knows me.

And, yes, I have seen those people too. Even when I was 20 years old and 95 pounds I never wore a bikini-ahh...youth is wasted on the young!

I'm one of thos fat chicks that I'm sure others think "shouldn't ever even consider a bathing suit". Guess what...I never gave a crap what they thought before a bilat mast, and I care even less now! If someone doesn't want to look at my body because it doesn't match what society says a woman "should" look like that is their problem not mine. I am not going to stay away from the beach, or anywhere else for that matter, because I don't fit into someones "norm".

You are right, Deb. I think it is my age (41) but I really have way more confidence now after breast cancer than I ever had before. I WISH that when I was younger I had more confidence. Maybe I can teach my 3 daughters that body image is not important. Of course, the messages we all get from society may make that difficult!

Oh dear, I should have thought more about what I said

Deb - I have to admire you and the others because you don't let something as superficial as a bathing suit stop you from getting out there and frolicking in the surf or taking a sun drenched walk along the shore.

I spend a lot of time wondering if this is hanging out or maybe I've got some hair that shouldn't be there showing, and don't have as great a time as I should.

I can relate, Deb - only from the other side. Being rail thin, I NEVER wore a bathing suit when I was younger - and I was always a beach lover. I just didn't look anything like the societal norm so I wore big shirts and "shorts" that came well past my knobby knees. Now I wear it all - sorta feels like I'm flipping the societal "norm" the bird, lol. Don't you just love the confidence that comes with maturing?

Glad you're loving that suit, Carol...

We always take a trip to Florida in July. Two yrs ago, before all this breast cancer stuff came up, I wanted to wear a bikini or at least a 2-piece. This summer, I am finally going to wear it and enjoy!

Now at 49, I know my body is far from perfect, but can't wait to get out there anyway. Who cares what others think.
My husband thinks I'm attractive and our 2 boys, 16 and 10 said "Go for it, Mom!

I have read your posts.  You are hysterical.  I think that is the one thing I haven't adjusted to yet.  I am currently unilateral post mast. and hoping or I should say thinking about recon. in the future.  I don't know if I will ever feel sexy again.  It sounds like you have found underwear nirvana.  I love to read your posts because they make me feel there may be a restoration to my old self, with or without recon.  Thanks for your upbeat posts.  Continued good health, Mary

    Carol,

Awesome news! I used to have trouble finding a suit I liked before the mast. Always worrying about the leg cut and whether the style was slimming. Now all I worry about is whether or not my boobs look somewhat matching and the suit is comfortable. Even though the choices are smaller, it's if anything become easier. No more trying on 20 suits, scrutinizing how I look from behind (never looks how you want it to look). I tried on 3 suits and liked 2. That's a good hit ratio for me!
