BodyWorlds!

This week I went to see the exhibit "BodyWorlds" here in Phoenix AZ. It is quite a fascinating exhibit with platicized view of human anatomy, including comparisons of "healthy" vs diseased tissues.

There were cros-sections of "healthy" breasts and breasts with DCIS, and a breast with a 2cm tumor. There were healthy livers and lungs, and livers with cirossis and metastases, lungs with tar deposits, emphasyma (please forgive my spelling!), lung cancer, and lesions.

What I like was the "real" view (versus the xray, mri, ct, pet views we all see) of normal vs diseased, and, there were also exhibits showing the stages of metastases. My kids really enjoyed seeing this with me. I believe in a way it de-mystified "cancer" for them, making it look more real rather than abstract.

We saw BodyWorlds in Minneapolis last year. Didn't know there was a breast cancer component, and neither one of us was ready for it. It felt like we had been sucker punched , and we both moved quickly away.

It was a neat exhibit overall, though hard to see when we went due to the crowds.

There is an exhibit in the San Diego area now. I wanted to take my almost 6 and 8 1/2 year olds but it is so expensive. My dh wasn't to into the idea but the kids were very interested. Do you think it is appropriate for young ones? I heard they take kindergarten classes to it. My boys just love this kind of stuff.

    Hi Brenda:
My partner and I don't have kids, so can't speak from personal experience. There were, however, many young children at the exhibit when we went.

It is very expensive. I had comp tickets, which is the only reason we saw it.

I also saw Body World when it was here in Minneapolis last summer. I hadn't been dx w/breast cancer yet, so did not pay as close attention to the exhibit. Wish now that I would have.

I also had comp tickets and don't remember the price, but it is fascinating.
