Hey ladies, my onc is recommending that I start tamoxifen after I finish my herceptin in December. My second opinion onc did not recommend the tamoxifen since I am ER- and only slightly PR+ (17%). Does anyone else have a similar dx? And if so, did you/will you do tamoxifen?

Thanks!
Kristin

I just found out that my pr/er are only slightly positive, but my onc still recommended 5 years of arimidex.

I was HER2+, ER, PR+, but I don't know how strong. My onc put me on tamoxifen anyway. We are planning on taking it for 2 years, then on to an AI (I'm 52, and in "chemo-pause).

I too am Her2+, ER-, PR weakly+. I began Arimidex on Jan 4/07 for the next 5 years. I was not impressed with some of the potential SE but my Onc said it help improve the effectiveness of Herceptin. He also said he would advise his wife to take it in a similar situation as mine but could not guarantee that she would do as he advised, lol . I have the joint aches etc but otherwise am doing well, just hope my Muggas will stay up (only 50 2 weeks ago).

Thanks for your responses! I am so NOT looking forward to the tamoxifen. Hot flashes, weight gain, ugh. But if my onc thinks it will help keep the beast at bay, I guess I will just have to bite the bullet!

    Kristin,

I read your diagnosis on the roll call and sent you a private message, then I found this thread with my same question. I just found out today I am HER2 positive after they redid my path with a FISH test. Same diagnosis as you and my onc. says probably no Tamoxifen or Arimidex. That worries me. I think I'll get a second opinion. I want the most aggressive treatment I can get.

My estrogen receptor was 9 and my progesterone receptor was 72. I wasn't quite sure how to read the report but my onc always considered me to be negative and after having A/Cytoxin and 5FU (back in 1994) I did not have any further treatment until I had a recurrence last year and then was tested for herceptin which was positive. Hope this helps alittle but probably just more confusing with everybody getting a different treatment. A second opinion is always good if you are unsure.
