Does anyone know if I am more succetible (spelling??) to infection or illness when taking herceptin? It is way past business hours and I don't want to call the doctor's office. My brother is in ICU, seems he had a adverse reaction to fentayl that he was rx and now his wbc is through the roof along with his blood pressure. Of all my brothers, I am the closest with him. I want to drive out to PA and see him but worried about going in a hospital with just starting herceptin. Can anyone help here?

LuAnn, I completed my chemo along time ago and recently finished my year of herceptin. I did NINE months of herceptin ALONE WITHOUT chemo. (Just herceptin.) I had lots of problems with my wbc & rbc with chemo...but once it was JUST herceptin it was fine. I did labs every 3 weeks almost and it remained great.

So I am pretty sure you should be fine. (But I'm certainly not a doctor.) All drugs affect people differently but I really haven't heard of women talking about problems with their counts while on herceptin? I am sure if there were any problems as to counts...they were minor I would think.

I am SO VERY SORRY to hear about your brother. I seriously think you should be just fine going to see him. You take care and I will certainly keep your brother in my prayers for a quick recovery.

I bottomed out on the white blood cells during chemo, but I don't even have blood tests on herceptin - so I guess they aren't worried about it.

It is always good to be careful about hospitals though. Take one of those bottles of hand disinfectant and use it as soon as you leave.

    Hi Ladies,

My sister is her2 and ER+/Pr+ her staging is on side Stage 1, grade 2 and then the other stage 2, grade2/3. She has had the lumps removed but after chemo she will be getting bi-later mast. they told her reoccurance for is 4 percent.
Does this make sense and can anyone explain the staging to me and she is node neg.

    thank you

As far as I know the main problem from herceptin is heart issues, it does not seem to affect the bone marrow (blood counts)
