Michelle, thank you for your kind wishes for my sister - I have simply been too upset to post. Last week, she climbed out of bed and broke her hip!! Even worse, it is on the stroke affected side. She had surgery the next day. I could not stop crying for two days - she is in such desperate shape, she is not getting better and then this happens. I can't really blame the hospital, she has been very restless from the beginning, and I have seen her many times try to climb over, but nevertheless, it is too distressing. The stroke was the beginning of April, and now her move to rehab will be delayed again, until she is medically stable. She tries to talk, but gets very frustrated, and cries. Her stroke hand is starting to curl up (tighten) and who knows if she will ever write again (she had beautiful handwriting). The whole situation has made me so upset, and seeing her suffer (which she definitely is, more mentally than anything else) is terrible. The doctor told me "based on the nature of her stroke, she may never recover, but we will not know for sure, until a year has passed".

As far as me, I feel okay, and have been busy. I have some follow up appointments coming up (second mammo since surgery, oncologist) and can't help being terribly nervous, plus I get upset just thinking about the hospital.

I had an appointment with my family doctor last week - my cholesterol is down from the Lipitor (I never had high cholosterol, it was caused by tamoxifen!) and now he said my blood pressure is high - I never had high blood pressure, he said to watch salt intake and he will check me next month.

(Ravdeb, my son and his wife and baby are in Israel for 10 days for Shavuot - ladies, this is a lovely Jewish holiday where we traditionally eat dairy foods)

    Love to all,
    Linda

Linda..I'm so sorry about your sister. I only hope that her hip heals quickly so that she can move on to rehab. It's one step backwards but she will move ahead in rehab. Rehab has done wonders for so many stroke victims. She, and you, are in my thoughts.

Good luck with your mammo and appointments.

I wish you could have come to Israel, too!

and yes...Shavuot is almost upon us. It's an especially beautiful holiday where we celebrate the receiving of the Torah as well as all the new fruit harvests. In the farming villages and kibbutzim (I live in a farming village) there are special celebrations that take place outside, with lots of dancing and singing and they bring the first fruits in pretty baskets. The kids usually do this. There was a traditional tractor and wagon parade where the kids get on the trailers that we use for the grapes and they would parade all over the village. The trailers would be decorated with flowers and every body wears all white with flower wreaths on their heads. They don't do the parades anymore only because of insurance problems...modern day thing! But we do all wear white.

Another tradition is to study all night long. Here in Israel it has become a very popular thing and there are all-night study sessions throughout Israel not only for the traditional and religious people but also for the secular. It has become a main spiritual event here.

And yes..we eat only dairy. Bad for the cholesterol but oh so yummy!

Michele..I bet those flowers you planted look beautiful. I sure could use your energy!

Debbie...I don't know what it is with people. I can talk about the bad stuff with cancer only with those who have cancer themselves. I think that in many ways we are much more sensitive when somebody who has never had cancer, tells us these stories. It seems insensitive to us because they don't "get it" no matter how hard they try. When I was first diagnosed my sister in law told me what a horrid, aggressive type of cancer bc was and that her girlfriend died a horrible death from it. I had just been diagnosed. Since then, she has reminded me on just about every occasion that I've seen her, that her girlfriend died of bc. I have a hard time hearing from non-cancer people about how others have died from cancer. They don't understand and they think we will understand and relate when we hear the stories. But, that's the problem..we understand tooooooooo much.

I'm leaving soon for my Duplex ultrasound on my neck...my 6-month appointment for my dissected carotid. I go in nervous and go out relieved as every time they have told me there has been no change. I would like them to tell me that it has healed itself but at this point, that will not happen. So, the No Change status is good. And I'm hoping that I will hear that today!

Debbie...I'm so sorry about your sister's comment. I would have flipped out. I think sometimes people are so worried about what they can and can't say around us that they just put their feet in their mouths and say these things. I loose patience for these things a lot....regardless of what people mean. One of my husband's friends decided that after I got diagnosed, that was a good time to tell me about someone he knew who had died of cancer. DIdn't need and didn't want to hear it. I'm sorry she said that.

Linda...I'm sorry about your sister. I'm thinking of you!! Hang in there

Happy Birthday to the Birthday girls

I'm off to play tennis with the in-laws...oy!

Happy Birthday Michele......Have a Good one. Take a day and pamper yourself, you deserve it.

Linda, That is a shame about your sister. I feel so bad for her and you. She is in my prayers.

I am dog sitting. Amy are you sure you want a puppy? lol I am watching a little yorkie puppy and I think he has ADD, just kidding but he is wild and has no attention span......lol..I just realized I couldn't do this on a permanent basis although she tried to give him to me. He is darn cute though.

Where's Laura? I hope she is OK. This is not like her not to be checking in.

    Hi to everyone else.

Good luck Gail with that puppy! One of my many cats had kittens and my daughter found them. There seem to be only two..the others must not have made it, I'm guessing. They are so cute! We will keep our distance. Otherwise the mom will take them away. We have another cat who is pregnant, too. It's kitty season here!

The tech who did my Duplex said there was "not that much change". I wonder what that meant. usually she tells me there is NO change. I will get the final results in the mail after the doctor looks at them. Not worried. Just curious. Also, afterwards they always take blood pressure and mine was high! I went from too low to mildly high. Not really high but a whole lot higher than a couple of weeks ago. But, I was a bit nervous so that was probably why.

    Amy..have fun playing Tennis.

The days are clearing up and will be perfect for walks on the beach this week, so I start my walks tomorrow...no excuses! I'm motivated because I need to tan my legs! LOL

Happy Birthday to all you girls!

Today is Teryn's birthday party! She is still sleeping. Last night she could not contain herself ... she was so excited!!

    -----
TracyNY, love your curtains. Looks like you have a new habit and can now change them out every season when you paint!!

Debbie, people are always saying thoughtless remarks and we are supposed to handle it with grace and not be offended/hurt, etc. I'm sorry she said that. No one knows what we are going thru everyday STILL ... even after it's almost been 2 years.

V --- thanks for sharing your pics. You look awesome as always!

Kelly,Too bad you don't live closer, my sister would gladly give him to you except my niece would have a fit. It's her dog, she has two of them. A calm one and a crazy one, of course I have the crazy one...I'm just kidding, typical puppy. When is Teryn's birthday? Is it tomorrow on my birthday? That would be nice if we share the same birthday. Tell her I said HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

Ravdeb, No Change is good, I think. I bet your BP was up from nerve's since that always happens to me. I have a visit tomorrow with my PP and that should be it for a while. I'm sure my BP will be up too especially when I give her a list of my complain's and the list keeps growing..lol

Gail..true..no change is good but she said not much change. She ALWAYS says NO change. This time she hesitated and then covered the page when she said it and told me I'd get the results in the mail after the doctor looks at it. If there was NO change like always, she would have said that. So, I wonder but I don't know if I need to worry! I'm not worrying!

Happy Birthday to all the birthday girls!!! And many, many, many more returns.

I am off to get my drains out today. Horrray!!! Free at last.
Had a proper look at my scars yesterday... Can all the reconstruction ladies assure me they will get better??!! I think my PS is excellent, but scars are scars. And they are scary..

Mary, please consider anti-depressants. There is no shame in taking them. I have since my diagnosis, and i can assure you, they helped me immensely.

aaaah, monday at home... i am thinking about a couple more weeks off work. I am getting lazy.

    -----------------

I'm okay...computer was down and now it's up. I was down and now I'm up! LOL I'm feeling better...I did spend some time in the Goat - in fact, it was soooooooooooooooo funny. Two little old ladies in a car next to me, gave me the thumbs up, so I winked at them! They were so cute! If traffic had been lighter, I would have left them in a cloud of dust when the light turned green! DARN! LOL They probably remember the GTO from days gone by...as it's been around forever - (since the 60's).

I'm going to squeeze the last hour of sunlight in and finish cleaning one of my garden beds.

    More later...

Thanks for the kind birthday wishes ladies!!!

My dh bought me a beautiful card. Today was a pretty quite day and pretty cool outside but got sunny later on. We went on a hike with the dogs and the puppy decided to jump over a bench and started limping when she landed and we thought this is going to cost a bundle in vet bills. We had her remain calm and put her on the leash for the rest of the walk back through the woods and she seems to be fine now, thankfully no limping….

Our neighbour’s mother’s house deal fell through due to the home inspection and something to do with the well being too close to the spectic and then the people said that the house was a money pit. I think the home inspector just came up with that excuse and it was their escape out of the deal. My neighbour said I’m not going to force anyone to live in a house that they don’t want. Don’t know if there is any truth to what the inspector said and then I got thinking about our spectic but ours is a newer system in the last 20 years.

We have two showings scheduled, one tomorrow and one on Tuesday. Both of them are from people that live in the Toronto area.

Tomorrow is a statutory holiday for us so get to sleep in again, yippee!!!

Brenda – take care of yourself and if it gets too much don’t be afraid to go back on the anti depressants. I plan on staying on celexa as it keeps me grounded and I would be a basket case without it. I think it goes with the territory with having bc, a lot of ladies have needed them.

Linda – I am so sorry to hear that your sister hurt herself and needed surgery. That’s awful and I think you had enough on your plate to worry about and now this….
    Big hugs to you.

Hope everything goes okay with your followup. I have to drive by my oncologist’s office everyday on the way to work, sometimes I just look the other way.

Deb – The flowers do look pretty but I hope they survive the frost tonight. How did your test go?

Graycie – puppies are a lot of work, Scooby can still be a handful, but she is still only 10 months old and yes they are sooooo cute!!!

Kelly – wish your little princess a happy birthday! Did you take any pictures?
    How are you feeling?

Cathy – love your new avtar! You look younger!! Yes we did go out and had dinner on the patio at the restaurant and then saw “Spider Man 3”, it was pretty good….

Paula – horray your drain free!

Have a super evening ladies and hello to all my sisters! Where’s Maryanne??

    Love Michele

Happy Birthday Michele!!! Sounds like you had a nice day!
Cathy - LOVE your new avatar!! You look great!
Linda - so sorry to hear about your sister - thinking about you and saying a prayer for your sister.
Deb - Have a wonderful walk on the beach!
Debbie - ugh! That was a bit insensitive - my sister likes to start stories and then stop mid way to ask if she's bothering me. 99% of the time I'm not bothered until she stops and then I start thinking about how she's thinking about how it relates to me (did that make sense.) Never easy!
Oh, here's a pic of Kiersten - she had her recital today - it was beautiful and she did a great job!

Rosemarie, your Kiersten looks lovely in her recital gown.

Debbie: Your sister was thoughtless in her remark.

Linny: So sorry that you and your sister are going through this.

To everyone else, hope your weekend was fun!

My visit with the onc. was uneventful. We had a conversation, then breast exam, another conversation about other things. I brought up the itch and fatigue. He wasn't very concerned. He said I will be due for my yearly mammogram in July, and he is also ordering a chest xray. I asked if the plastic surgeon could take a look at my asymmetrical breasts. He said he will refer me to the PS, so I can have something done during the summer.

Victoria..what a neat cake you posted. I noticed you have a new name, too. Our holiday, that started tomorrow night, is the first holiday I celebrated in Israel. It was in 1982, the summer we were married here. My dh took me to the beach where the kids from the kibbutz were dressed all in white with the flowers in their hair. I had never seen that and the emphasis in the States was on the receiving of the Torah and not the harvest. I didn't even know that wearing all white was a custom. (the truth is that religious school ended before this holiday and we never really learned about it...how wierd is that???)I was so impressed with the way it was celebrated here. I love this holiday and my mother in law makes yummy cheese dishes!

Paula..enjoy the NO DRAINS! Heal well. You will feel so much better without those attachments!

Cathy..love your new avatar. You look beautiful!

RoseMarie...your daughter looks so pretty! I'm sure her recital was wonderful. I used to cry when I watched my daughter dance in her performances!

Brenda..I hope you are doing better. Why is he sending you for a chest x-ray? Is it the fatigue? Did you get your thyroid checked out? My fatigue may be due to the TSH level. I'm on a thyroxine pill to see if that will take care of it. But to tell you the truth, it's my breathing that I think is making me tired. I don't think my breathing is right. It may be my asthma... Hope you feel better soon.

Michele..sounds like you had a nice birthday. You still have frost? Does the weatherman not know that it is mid-May????

Looks like war in Israel again. So tiring. One town in the south (Sderot)has been bombarded with missiles or rockets or whatever they are called. I'm sick about that. There is a group from our area going there on Thurs. night to show support for the residents. I won't be going. I'm way too scared and I think that the government should get all of the residents out of there and into safer towns.

There is a matriculation exam today and the kids in that town will be in a bomb shelter taking the exam. That is so unfair. What happens if there is an attack in the middle of the test? Are they supposed to ignore it and just finish the test? This is a test that is given throughout the country (my son will be taking it) and it's given at the same hour everywhere. Seems very unfair. The ministry of education should have postponed it or moved those kids out of the town. It's a problem because these kids are going into the army and some of them go in the summer. They need to finish their exams or they will have to take them when they are finished with their army service. Not fair.

Life is so tough here sometimes!

Wow, Deb - I can't even begin to imagine! The holiday sounds beautiful - how meaningful and touching. Sharp contrast to the war - how awful!

Gail - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Hope you have a wonderfully relaxing day!

V - I agree, that cake is so cool! love the elephants!

I will be going to the Y today and THEN I'll be staining our deck. Not looking forward to that but we have put it off long enough!!!

Have a great day elephant sisters!!

    Hope you feel better soon!

    Meeshell -
Nice to have the day after your birthday off! No, I'm not getting the leopard print sleeve...you're right, it wouldn't match with very much and I wouldn't want to draw attention to my arm. I finally found my sleeve...it's plain ol' flesh color. Enjoy your day off.

    RoseMarie -
Kerstyn looks adorable! Her outfit is really pretty.

    Paula -
No drains...that's great! Take as much time off...you've earned it!

    Graycie -

Teryn's party was so much fun!! Thanks, girls, for her birthday wishes. We went to the Roller rink and had the party there. OMG, seeing 11 little girls on roller skates was so funny. Less than a handful had skated before, so glad the moms and a few dads came along. Teryn is pretty good at it and wore her new skates!

Rosemarie, Kierstyn looks beautiful and she has her pose just right!!

Paula, glad you get the drains out. I am so glad I didn't have to have to them. I go to the ps today to have him have a look at the skin graft. I think only part of it is going to last.

Cathy, nice to see your new avatar!! Email me or pm me about the exchange. The exchange was easy, it's the surgery on the other breast that hurts.

Hey Laura, how's Roy's injury coming along??? LOL .... I'm sure by now it's all better and he's back in the saddle ... so to speak. When do you guys get your car back?

Brenda, glad to see you, make your appointment right away with the PS so you can be sure to get your appointment.

Michelle, I am sure with all the work you have done on your house, it will sell soon. But think of it this way, the longer it takes, the more you get to enjoy all the new things you have done to the house.

Everyone, hope you have a great day.

Victoria/frostflower.. funny how I centered in on the matriculation test. Guess I was thinking about my own kid having to take it and how important it is to be cool and collected when taking any kind of test. Also, it was on the news this morning and one of the kids was talking about it. It's very scary there. Although most of the bombs haven't hurt anyone or done much damage, there have been some direct hits on homes and on a new restaurant that was going to open and some people have been physcally hurt. The biggest problem is trauma. There are people in the hospital for shock. Some can't lift their heads out of their laps they are in such shock. Some won't eat. Some can't talk. Shock is just as bad as physical injuries. The residents there are really suffering.

Last year it was in the north. Now it seems to be in the south though this is not the first time Sderot has been attacked. They aren't attacking Sderot..just that that is the range of the missiles they are firing. They are attacking Israel and Sderot is the victim.

Happy, happy birthday Gail. Wish I could be there to celebrate with you. And thanks so much for the bd card. Some day I hope to get my act together and send cards.

Same goes for you TracyS. Starbucks rocks! Thanks a bunch. Any word on the job situation?

Thanks Debbie–just now got your card delivered to my desk. Love the donkey stamp!

Thanks ladies on the avatar comments. I was all set to do big things on Saturday starting with posting that picture but didn’t think it went through so got disgusted, went home and cleaned house. Imagine my surprise when I wrote the quick note on Sunday and there it was.

dEB–thank you for telling about Sderot from your perspective. I too had heard about the bombing but have trouble understanding what is really happening. Your concerns make it much more real for me. I can’t imagine what it’s like for you.

Just did a Google search on Shavuot and was interested in the whole history and one source connected it to the Christian celebration of Pentecost or Whitsunday. (Although another said there was no connection) Cheesecake, blintzes yum!!

RoseMarie–Your Kiersten is the perfect ballerina. Tell her I love her “first position” pose and her smile!

Paula–hooray for you the drains are out!! Not speaking from experience yet—I have read that reconstruction first observed can be disappointing but as you continue to heal it gets much, much better. So I am prepared not to expect too much. (I think)

And Brenda–hope you can get that symmetry you want. I was told that with my choice of reconstruction (expander w/exchange)and size (D) symmetry would be difficult. For me I’ll be satisfied with two bumps that are relatively the same size and not facing east like my expander is!

Hey girls and V. I saw that fantastic cake and said to my self, “Self, what a beautiful cake!” I DID NOT see the elephants. Still not as bad as not noticing Mary-Anne’s dh sitting next to her in the boat.

Laura-–glad to hear you and your computer are up. Nothing frustrates me more than not being able to connect.

TracyNY–arriving in NY the 29 of May. Surgery scheduled June 4. PM me if you think we can get together.
Victoria—waiting for the story about your experience at the Chinese DOM?
Have a busy week–have to get going.

    Love you all.
