i am home...finally. i hurt and am tired but home. had to have a 2nd surgery because the skin flap became necrotic. so thursday the ps removed a 6" patch and moved over soem of the skin he was saving for tweaking. he saved the implant.
they did have trouble getting me to come around after monday's surgery. every time the pain got under control, my respirations deteriorated. but at 10 PM i finally came up to my room. the family was besdie themselves no tto mention my friends who were waiting for larry to call them.
so, i am still hurting but taking the percoset and that helps.
i have not gotten the path report back from monday's surgery but should get it by monday, tuesday at the latest.
i pm's jule my home number and if you want to get it from her. only call if you have long distance. otherwise, i will call you back if you want. i have to go walk around the hosue, my legs are swelling up. alos tired out now!
love you guys! -
My surgeon called at 7 this evening. I had assumed after 5 I wouldn't hear til next week. Put him on speaker phone with my husband. The MRI showed nothing. Yeah!!! We talked for about 20 minutes, going over probabilities, re-occurance, and aesthetics. We didn't think another go at clean margins would work, due to the multifocal nature of ILC. So we decided on one mastectomy. I will meet with a plastic surgeon next and then schedule surgery. I feel great! He said my breasts aren't very dense, and my cancer was found early with mammogram, so it wasn't likely it would occur in the other breast, and if it did it would also be detected early.
This is definitely my biggest positive since the diagnosis.
-
I'm so glad you're home, Beth, Sounds like it was a bit of a scary time, but sounds like it ended on a positive note. I prray you'll heal quickly and the pain will dissipate soon.
Tricia, so glad your doc was so kind as to call late and talk so long. Sounds like a keeper. I'm so happy for your good news and I feel sure you'll do well!
Jule, Try not to do too much and end up too tired out! I hope you regain your energy soon. It needs to catch up with you. :}
My positive is I have both my kids with me for Mother's Day. My little family is together again for a few days.
Miss S -
Good Morning everyone....
As Beth said I have her home # so anyone that would like it please pm me.
Beth- things went a little rough for you at first but Im sure you are on the downhill slide of things now....get plenty of rest and heal well....and above everything else DO WHAT THE DR TELLS YOU!!!!
Tricia-Im so happy they didnt make you wait over the weekend for news!!!! that was so wonderful of your doc....yep he's definately a keeper
Miss S-both of my kids will be home too and all but 2 of my grandkids so it will be a fun day....the only draw back is that I cant just grab up the little ones a play with them just yet ....but I will settle for sitting and hugging them....
My 4 yr old grandson is in the stage where he thinks he's too "manly" for hugs and kisses but he will run up to me and ask for his "squeeze", its really hugs but when he started this no hug thing I changed the word but he wont do it for anyone else....of course I sneak in a couple of quick kisses too
It is the hot air balloon festival here this weekend so we will all meet up later tonight and go for the night glow where the ground all the balloons and fire them up so they light up...its really pretty...I will post some pics tomarrow for you all...
Wishing everyone a great day!!!!

Jule -

Happy Mother's Day to all of you. I am really tired today. BTW, Jule, weren't you the one damning the torpedoes a little while ago? Gardening, driving, etc.? Just kiddign with you hon. But you are right. Resting until the kids get here.
Tricia, saw your good news just under me up there. Great docs are one of a kind sometimes.
Everyone have a beautiful day. Love to all. -
Yes Beth, that was me and Im still damning them!!! They still have me on pretty limited activities ....will be until hopefully my next follow up with them in June....
But life is good and Im learning to slow it down a little so guess its not all bad ....

Kids will be here later today and we will have a bbq so will be nice.
Hugs
Jule -
Happy Mother's Day, everyone. I'm back from Cape May. We had a great time, the weather was nice, I bought a lot of useless stuff and ate like a pig!! It was such a treat to sit on the balcony and look at the ocean. I would highly recommend it as a vacation spot!!
Beth - soooo glad to hear you made it home. Sorry to hear of your complications in the hospital. Things sure aren't easy are they? Just make sure you rest, rest, rest!!
Jule- sorry to hear the hot air balloons were a bust. We have a festival here every year and I always say I'm going and I never do. This year I'm really going to make the attempt!!
Tricia - what a fabulous ocn you have, you are very lucky. Please keep us updated on the next step in your journey.
Thats it for now, folks.
Talk to you soon.
Valerie -
Hope everyone had a wonderful Mothers day weekend.....
Valerie, it was ok about the balloons...I really wasnt sure I should go with all the walking and jostling around after my escape mushroom picking in the mountains Friday anyway....boy did I pay for that!!!!
Beth, hang in there you will start feeling better as each day goes by...
Tricia- how you holding up???
MissS-where'd ya go????? havent seen a post from you since Mothers day!

Well, from hot air balloons last weekend to horse races this weekend... Day of Real Sports the town I live in's little weekend affair...which means tons of people, horses, jockies, bands, parties, parade and such all weekend....looks like the weather is going to stay nice so should be lots of fun ....
Will check back on you ladies later this evening, need to head out the door for my 1st DEXA scan ......
Hugs
Jule -
I found a diamond ring in the ladies room at the library today. When I turned it in the librarians were so excited and so thankful, they said "not everyone would turn it in". Took my name, address, and phone number. I felt a little funny with all the fuss being made, but I'll always remember my parents searching the house for my mother's diamond (even went thru the dirt in the vacumn bag and took apart the drain in the kithchen sink looking for it) and how badly she felt when they couldn't find it. I found another one last year at work and I remember how ecstatic the owner was when she got it back. I solve the problem and just never take mine off! (except for MRIs and surgeries of course!) -
OH Gosh, Valeria, I forgot to ask my friend about the place to see the dolphins! I was so busy before surgery trying to forget about that I forgot your inquiry.
Well, hope Jule's dexa scan went well.
Hi awb [beth waving]
I am being kicked off the computer in favor of my ds using it for a project. be back tomorrow! -
Beth - no problem. We found the place. Of course the day we go there were no dolphins!! But enjoyed the ride anyway!! Hope all is going well with you.
awb- I ought to hook you up with my bloodhound!! The 2 of you would be quite a pair!! LOL.
Jule- hope the bone scan went well. You got me wondering why none of my doctors ordered one for me.
Gotta get to work,
Valerie -
I want to join the club, I have remained positive since the dx on April 27 of DCIS in the right breast, everyone around me asks me if I am OK. Due to family history (mother 6 yr survivor) and my medical history (2 dx of ADH in each breast over 2 years) I am scheduled for bilateral mast with reconstruction on June 1. I am positive that we can pull through this together.
I found a great quote from Eleanor Roosevelt "Women are like tea bags, you don't know how strong we are until we are put in hot water." I like to think that I am strong.
My husband is a long haul trucker and only home on weekends, seeing how several of you survived by yourselves after surgery, I know that I can make it. my mother has volunteered to stay during the day for the first week with me and take me to my appointments. She has been my stablizer. She has gone with me to my appointments since the abnormal mammo April 9. My dr suggested 6 months ago to do the double mast and I said that I would think about it. I guess the thinking time is past.
Sheila in NC -
Welcome Sheila - will be thinking of you and sending prayers for June 1st. I'm glad your Mom will be there that first week to take care of you.
I love Eleanor's quote.
Happy Belated Mother's Day everyone hope all had a great day either with their mother or kids. We went out to a friend's farm to see his new foals. It was a nice ride.
Jule - rose bush is just sitting there - I do think I killed it but we will wait and see. I did lose another spirea bush with out late frost - it was just starting to wake up. What kind of rose bush did you get? We've been busy running kids to golf and soccer -gas prices are killing me .
Miss S - love the 80/20 rule - I'm going to try a few days of faking it to see if that helps - I firmly believe that perception is reality so its time to change my perceptions.
AWB - I hope that the person who lost the ring realizes where and goes back and finds it. I'm glad it was found by a honest woman.
Beth - how are you feeling?
I'll try not to be such a stranger.
My positive for today is only 1 more soccer game and 3 more golf matches and the running stops for a little bit -
Hi there all you positive gals!
I'm still here, Jule! I'm doing great. Tonight I am taking my sister out to dinner for her birthday. Weeee! I like the way you manipulate hugs by calling them squeezes. I am notating that for further use.
awb, great story about the diamonds. I was at the beach once and a girl had lost her 1.5 carat diamond in the ocean waves. Poor thing was so forlorn. She said, "I can only hope someone else finds it and enjoys it and it's not lost forever."
Anyway, good on you for doing the right thing!
Beth, it's good to see you posting as you convalesce. take it easy and try not to overdo it! it's hard not to when the weather is so nice.
Valerie, sounds like you had a great time at Cape May. I want to go somewhere! I bet I could sneak in a long weekend out of town with no one noticing!
Sheila, welcome to the PGC. We love having lots of members! The more, the merrier! I like the tea bag analogy. Sometimes I think I look like one that is being used for a third cup!
kelly, good to hear from you... you hang in there and fake it if you have to. I train soft skills and part of that speaks to "If you act like you feel a certain way, you'll start to actually feel that way". I have found that if I grin real big at people even when I'm down, I really do start to feel better! So sometimes faking it is okay!
I have finishes my A/C and will be getting my first T/H tomorrow. Wish me luck!
Miss S -
Miss S - Good Luck with T/H. your getting there!!
Sheila in NC - Welcome!! I am a late comer also and these lovely ladies welcomed me with open arms!!
Beth - I'm hoping no news from you is good news. Rest Up!
Jule - Where are you?
Valerie -
Valerie, I am hoping no news is good news too since it is Thursday morning and still no path report. After I finish my daily scan of the boards, I am calling again. I am now very anxious. The morning before we left Cape May is the day the boys went in the water and the dolphins were jsut a few feet away from them. It was so awesome, no other words to describe it.
Jule, you are right.I am feeling better each day. My chest hurts the worst right now, up at the top. At least this is one surgery I will never have to do again. One drain seems to be ready to come out. It is a matter of finding someone to drive me over. The other 3 seem to be filling up over 30 cc's still so not yet for them. I am getting used to them! My one positive for the day is that I am up and on the computer before 11 AM! Wow! This is a first since surgery.
Sheila, Welcome, sweetie! I will blame the percoset on my forgetting to say hi or I will also blame it on repeating myself if I alrady did, lol.
Kelly, love the sports and watchng the kids but the running is the pits sometimes. Eric participates in after-school sports and I am lucky that he can take the bus home.
MissS, as hard a s I try, I cannot just sit still and let everyone else do for me. Now, the dr said to walk so when I get stuff for the table, I do it in stages...all the napkins then the forks, etc. so I make more trips. Our kitchen is a large one so I do get some exercise, not much. I also made a vow to eat all my meals at the table with the family, none in bed. That I have been able to do, no problem. Been meaning to ask you where you are in VA...my sil is from Roanoke. Good luck with t/h.
See you girls tomorrow! -
Im here!!!!!!
Sorry I havent posted much....work has been a kicker this week...tons of budget stuff and meetings...YUK!!!! but I guess its part of my job
Its been a rough week...one of my friends that I met on this board was dx'd with mets yesterday so have been down in the dumps since last night ...
She lives one the other side of my state and I soooooo want to do something to help her....if any of you ladies have any ideas please chime in.
I will read back to see what is going on with all of you but for now....your all in my thoughts!!!!!
I do have a positive for this week though...my friend that I made the quilt for is coming for Friday for a weekend visit so have tons of plans to go play ....
Oh and the results of my DEXA scan that I had Tuesday are that I have VERY strong bones, bones of a teenager is what they said ....
Hope everyone is doing well and having a happy day!!!!!
Hugs
Jule -
Jule, great news on the DEXA scan. Bones of a teenager, huh? So that explains it!
Good news time!!!!!
Well, I got the doc's call. No sentinel node involvement, they took three, one on the left two on the right and all negative. In some of the breast tissue on the left they found fibrocystic changes and some evidence of DCIS. Since the DCIS was very slight and really just the very beginnings of it, the onc and bs and ps feel I should be ok with going back on Tamoxifen in a month for at least a year. That thought may change tomorrow after their Friday morning weekly meeting. The bs feels that if we had waited any lenght of time and without the Tamoxifen I did take, I would have had full-blown DCIS or worse. They found it in tissue that may not have shown up on any type of screenign it was so far away in the chest wall. My dad had a problem with phlebitis after his mast so they are holding off on the Tamoxifen for right now so it does not escalate my risk of it. Weird thing is, my dad and his mom both had the cancer in their left breast too.
Anyway, GOOD NEWS!! No matter how I look at it, it reaffirms all of this I am going through. If not for all of you, I would never have gotten this far and on the other side right now. How can I thank you enough!?!? I have two groups like you guys here on the boards (with some cross-over) and between the two, among others, I made it. Yeah! -
Hi everyone,
So good to see you all.
Welcome, Sheila.
Between work and company, I just haven't had time to be here. I will get all caught up this weekend.
My positive is that I have an appointment with a plastic surgeon on Tuesday, who will coordinate with the onco surgeon. Then they will find a date for the surgery and we can get on with it. I am ready for my mastectomy. -
Hi
My positive for the week is I am walking the survivor lap in the local Relay for life tonight and it is 2 weeks until my surgery. I may not be able to post after my surgery until i come back to work, I will try to get to the library some and post the positives.
pbd777 - I know what it is like to wait on the 2 surgeons to coordinate when they can both be in surgery. In a matter of 3 days they gave me 3 tentative dates before they finally worked out all the glitches.
Beth - congrats on no sentinal node involvment. I will have to wait until after my surgery to see if I had any node involvement.
Sheila -
Miss S-how did your b-day dinner go for your sis??? Hope you had tons of fun My little squeeze man will be here to play in the pool Saturday so we will see if he has figured it out yet .hes only 4 so am hoping it will take him awhile to figure that I smooozed him on it ..he is such a gentle little boy, so much fun
How did your 1st t/h go??? Hoping it was easy for you ..
AWB-Im beginning to wonder about ya girl two diamonds rings in two years??? Are you sure you dont have a diamond fetish (just teasing)
Valerie-So glad to hear you have a good time at Cape May .
Sheila-hope we havent scared you off with our silly antics here, please come back .
Kelly-like Miss S said faking it is good .put your mind in a positive place when you first wake up in the morning and you will find that eventually it just comes natural
Beth-havent forgotten you but I know how your doing since we spoke yesterday via IM .hope you have a great day today and dont worry about the drains coming out .the analogy of the spaghetti through the nose is pretty correct .mine didnt hurt at all..
Tricia-glad to hear things are moving along for you .
My positive for this week ..
As I told Kelly earlier, my little grandson will be here for part of the day so plan to give him tons of squeezes (he hasnt realize yet that squeezes are really hugs yet) ..his two yr old sister is a gem too, but she isnt cuddly L .little miss stubborn thing when I try to cuddle her but she is so much fun to watch .tries to EVERYTHING the older kids do .she kept getting in the pool last summer but the water was over her head little stinker learned to swim in about a weekend!!!! She was so determined to get in that pool .it took us sneakily watching her out the window to figure out how she was getting in because the older kids kept saying they werent helping her ..I keep an ice chest out there with cold drinks and snacks in it for the kids .she was pulling it over to the pool and jumping in off of it!!!!
My friend from out of town will be here later this afternoon and we have plans for dinner tonight, stopping by a few friends houses for short visits too much going on this weekend!!!! Going to a street dance this evening, breakfast, parade, horse races and then going for a ride in an old Model T car tomarrow, then dinner and dancing in the evening .I think I will need to come to work on Monday for some rest!!!!! But am looking forward to it a lot..
Sorry it will take you all 10 minutes to read my post, but I feel bad that I havent been able to keep up last week and not much better this week so wanted to get it all in and to let you all know Ive missed you .
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend, its not looking like I will have time to check up on you ladies so might not see ya until Monday .
Hugs
Jule -
Jule, you did not run me off. You should see some of the crazy things that I do. About 2 years ago, I found a pattern for a crocheted "wiggie" hat that is made out of the Lion brand "Fun Fir" yarn. I started making them for the local wig bank out of outlandish colors and they cannot get enough of them. The first ones that I made were in brown/tan/champagne colors-similar to hair colors, the Arm-n-Arm girls asked if I could make them in other colors. anyone who would make a powder blue or hot pink/orange wiggie for cancer patients to wear might be considered crazy but if they want the colors-I will give them the colors. if anyone wants the directions send me a pm and I will try to get it to you.
I can only get on the board when I am caught up at work. I do not have internet at home.
Sheila -
Sheila...I knew you would fit right in with us ....the thing is I didnt have chemo so didnt go bald, but I would wear one of those hats to a function in a heart beat ....
Every year there is a hot air balloon stampede here, last year my girl friend and I bought those head bands that have the little wiggly spring things sticking up with Lady Bugs on them....we wore them through the entire afternoon....the group we were with slowly started disappearing .....no bravery I tell ya....gotta stir things up once in awhile!!!!!
And yes, I would like that pattern, but I tried working with that hairy yarn and it drove me crazy so dont think I could make one ...but thank you....
Im glad we didnt scare you off and that we will be hearing more of your stories and about you as you have time....
Hugs
Jule -
It does take a special art to work with the hairy yarn, the first one I made it seemed that I tore out more than I put in. I have even done some with the shorter eyelash yarns that give a short curley look. My mother who lost her hair from chemo 6 years ago asked why I did not find it when she had lost her hair.
-
Hi Everyone -
Glad to see everyone's positive attitude lasted another week!!
Beth - you "sound" much better. Congrats on the no node involvement. What a relief that must have been for you.
pbd777- good luck next week, isn't waiting the worst thing ever?
jule - congrats on the bone scan. I have to say, you are one busy girl. How do you do it?
My positive for the week is I had my 2nd. follow-up with the bs and she said I am all clear!!! She didn't even had to do any aspirations this time. She also said the rib pains I have been having are probably caused by the radiation. AND, I have to go back in 6 months, not 3!!! Hooray!!
Have a great weekend everyone,
Valerie -
Valerie....I think Im a good juggler!!!!!! but believe me there are times that I wish I could just crawl in bed, close the door, pull the blanket over my head and HIDE!!!!!!
It really cool about the 6 months thing, but if I remember right you finished rads a week or so before me...this time I got to be first...I got my 6 months walk last week
Sheila, ok you've talked me into it....please pm me the pattern and I will try, but its YOUR fault if I fall flat on my face with this I want you to know (just teasing) -
Sheila, welcome if I have not said it already. I think I am repeating myself at times. Jule will attest to my "percoset brain"!!!
Valerie, congrats on the 6 month walk!
AWB, can you find an opal ring? I have always wanted one. Oh...we aren't putting in orders? But I thought as long as you are finding things.....Well at least see if you can find some of my marbles I have recently lost, hehehe!
Hi MissS and Kelly {beth waving}
Saw Jonimb on chat last night. If anyone gets a chance, see if you can send an encouraging word. She is not doing too well but percoset brain forgets what it was. Liver mets but don't quote me!
Sheila and Tricia, I have the "Why I Wore Lipstick to my Mastectomy" book. If either of you wants to read it let me know and I will mail it out to you. PM or email me.
Also, I know I will not be in these surgical bras forever. If anyone knows someone who could use a 3X size, let me know. I got 4 of them! I was only supposed to get one but I had one on and the charge nurse, resident and med student all brought in with gauze pads the day of discharge so I have 3 to go and one to wear for show!
Sheila, you should post about the "wiggie" on the crafting thread in Moving Beyond:Time to Circle the Wagons Forum. I will bump it up to find it easier. Also, in the same thread, quite a few women on the boards are helping with making community afghans to go to deserving members right her on BC.org. The community afghan thread is on the same forum. Whew, a lot fo info at one time.
I was supposed to get at least one fo the 2 drains on the right taken out today. Long story short, the ps saw me and said he would rather wait until Monday as they are on the same side where they did the 2nd surgery to remove necrotic tissue. So I get to keep the buggers 2 more days at least....Yipppee...NOT!
One positive is that I have never before felt closer to Larry. He has been so wonderful the past 2 weeks. I don't think he is cut out to be a house husband though and he is messing up the order of my kitchen. That is ok as long as he is here and is my rock.
Have a good weekend all. Since I am kind of stuck at home, I will try to check in more often. -
Hi Everyone!
Valerie,
Thanks for the wishes with the T/H. I was at the cancer center for over 8 hours yesterday, but it went well. I just had some sneezing and a runny nose, no biggie. I feel good today..... so far so good.
Sheila,
My friend left me a 'ring' to make the fuzzy hats with that you just wrap the yarn around. She also left me a bunch of yarn. I haven't had a chance to pick it up and try one yet, though, but now you have me interested again.
Beth,
You say your surgical bras are a 3x.... may I be so bold as to ask the size of your reconstructed boobies? I only ask because I was told my boobs were too big to work with. Sorry you're stuck with all the drains for the weekend.... it is probably for the best, though.
Jule,
I had a nice dinner with my sister... we went to a local landmark restaurant and had some good ole diner type food. They sell a few things in there and I found magnetic breast cancer car ribbons for $1.95!! I had to snatch some of those up, as I have never seen them for that price. Hope you have fun with your friend and your little squeezie boy, too!
Made,
Hurry home from those golf matches and talk to us. Hope you're doing okay.
My positives:
1. Only three more chemos to go! I'm OVER halfway finished!
2. I feel good!
3. I have you guys to boost my spirits!
Have a great weekend!
Miss S
