Dear Ladies,
I read and post for my mom Teena, who was dx in July. She doesn't post as she is not internet-ish but she reads your post and depends upon the boards for information, understanding and inspiration. She has finished chemo, rads and is doing herceptin and aromatase inhibitors. Her hair is coming back and she is perking up.
I've got a new job ladies, my first real job!!! My mother and I will sick together as always, so we are both moving to the San Francisco Bay area. We will be in Berkeley or Oakland but of course she would be willing to travel to SF to get great care. Does anyone know a great onc or how to find one?
Thank you so much.
Myisha, for Teena

    Hello Mysiha

Here is the website for the National Cancer Institute they have a list of cancer centers through out United States.
These are top cancer centers that offer the best care and trials.

Follow the link to NCI Designated Cancer Centers
Click on CA for California list

    Good Luck to Mother.

    Dear CTG,
Thank you for this link. This is exactly what I needed!!! I was in deep dread of just doing an internet search that turned up hundreds of names with no context. You are a godsend.
I am really anxious to do the best I can by my mother. Thank you for helping me do that.

I've heard from other women that the docs at UCSF are great. If I were in the bay area, that's the first place I'd look.
    Good luck

I live in the SF Bay Area but all of my doctors and treatments are done at Stanford. If you don't mind going to SF, I would look at UCSF. One of my girlfriends had all of her treatments at UCSF so I can find out who her onc was if you want. PM me if you want me to find out.

My husband had brain surgery at UCSF for brain cancer 7 years ago, they were great. They seem to have very good doctors and do a lot of research.

You could call the office of Dr. Laura Esserman and ask for a referral. Dr. Esserman is a breast surgeon (not an oncologist) at UCSF, VERY highly regarded. Her office might steer to a great onc.

I live in the east bay... probably too far for you to drive for a doctors appointment, but my oncologist is fantastic. Anyway, UCSF is a good place and two docs in particular, Dr. Rugo and Dr. Melisko come highely recommended. I think they are breast cancer specialists

In Berkeley there is Alta Bates Hospital that has a great oncology center and good docs, too. If you PM me, I will find out from my friend who is an oncology nurse at Alta Bates, who she would recommend.

Thank you everyone for your posts. We have been trying to get through the maze at UCSF, but Karen, if you do know of good Oncs in the East Bay that would be even better. I'll PM you write away.
I'm always stunned by how powerful the community of women is on theses boards. I can't thank you enough....

    HI Myisha,
I forwarded you an email from my friend who goes to John Muir Cancer Center in Walnut Creek. Just checking to make sure you got it.
