Hello Ladies!
I am 26 and had 4 AC treatments and 3 Taxol with last one this week. I will then have bilat mast followed by rads. The docs of course want me to take Tamox. since I am ER+ , PR+. My hubby and I were trying to get prego before BC and I have heard of women having a baby then taking Tamox. I will talk to my onc. this week about it but was just wondering what your thoughts were? Has anyone else done this?

I decided not to take tamoxifen because I also wanted a baby. Well I did get my baby, but I also got mets. Whether this was because I didn't do the hormone therapy I will never know, but it certainly is something that plays on my mind.
All that said though, my baby (now 13 months) gives me great joy, and my mets are under control for now.

I'm aiming to be around at least until my sons 5th birthday so that he will remember me and not just pictures of me.

I've heard more of young women taking tamoxifen for several years and then quitting and having a baby. They finish up afterwards.

You could do that and still not be 30 before having a baby.

I think there is some argument for going 2 years NED before getting pregnant.

I'm with Rose on this one. I think your onc would recommend you wait a while to get started trying to get pregnant until they are more confident you won't have a recurrance. This is most likely to happen in the first 2 years following treatment.

I took tamoxifen for two years after completing treatment, waited 4 months to make sure it was out of my system after starting, then got pregnant about 7 months later. I'm now 6 1/2 months pregnant.

There is a lot of research on this, maybe you and your husband can take a look at some and discuss with your doctor. Just google "pregnancy after breast cancer" and a lot will come up.

    Good luck with your decision!

Well.. Today was my last chemo and I am terrified! My hubby and mom and dad and I talked with onc. about Tamox. He said he agreed with my surgeon and thought that taking it for 5 years and then trying to get prego would be my best option. Hubby and I talked it over and as bad as we want to start a family he wants ME here more so we will be waiting. For now I am content with our decision. So we have 5 more years to work on us, travel and buy our dream house! It was a bitter sweet day...

My onc. said at least two years of tamoxifen and then I could go off and try for a baby---though he does not recommend me getting pregnant b/c I am 95% er+.

I am 32 years old and my husband and I are starting IVF berie I start chemo in 2 weeks. I, too, am supposed to do Tamoxifen for 5 years. I feel I won't be able to wait, but I am going to try my best to wait the full 5 so I can have a better chance of being around when I do finally have children. I have heard that women go off after 2 years as well...... Just take one year (or day) at a time!!
