FORCE BRCA/Heredit. Cancer Confernce-Who's Going?

Dear Friends,
Is anyone else here going to the FORCE conference on hereditary breast and ovarian cancer in Tampa, May 18-19? It will be the largest gathering of BRCA carriers and people affected by hereditary breast and ovarian cancer. It should be a great conference (ok, so I'm biased in that regards).

Hope to see some of you there!

Warm regards,
Sue

    Hi Sue -

Yes, I'm going! I have all my reservations/tix made (hotel, airfare & conference). Tampa is a hub for Southwest Airlines ... so lots of direct flights.

The conference topics and speakers look great!

I wish I'd learned more about BRCA sooner ... While I knew I had a strong family history, I didn't realize the full implications of BRCA1 (risk for ovarian cancer, much, much higher rates of pre-menopausal onset of bc, etc) ... and that it was a huge red flag that both my mom and maternal grandma had bc in their mid-40s. It got me earlier.

I didn't take the test until AFTER recurr bc, mets to the liver and unrelated kidney cancer.

There is so much that is specific to BRCA1, BRCA2 and others who are high risk with a strong family history that is really NOT addressed by most bc providers ...

I'm looking forward to good information, socializing/sharing contacts with others at high risk or already dx'd.

If you're high risk or have a family history, let alone BRCA1 or BRCA2, I'd really considering attending the FORCE conference!

Is anyone else from bco going to the FORCE conference?!

Sue, I am not going to make it but just wanted to tell you I met someone who spoke highly of you.....I go to a Geneticist at U of P. I had my 25 year old daughter with me. She told her about FORCE and about you. She said you were a vet and your name was Sue. I said: "I wonder if that is Veggievetsue and she said it was you. Her name is Julie Erlickman and she had been in Houston before here.

    Thinking of you...Candyce

    Hi Sue & Jill -

I look forward to meeting both of you.

Are any others attending the FORCE conference?

I can't believe there's only a couple of us and not more from bc.org attending, even if BRCA only accounts for 5% of bc (plus others who are at high-risk with a likely but unconfirmed mutation), there are thousands of members here ...

But, I mostly post on three of the threads ... and between health, financial and logistical issues, it probably makes traveling to conferences difficult for many who are interested ...

I registered early and wow, it's now less than 2 wks away .. I'm looking forward to it.

    Hi Calgal,
I will be at the conference, too. I tested negative for BRCA1 and BRCA2, but have a strong family history of breast cancer-besides myself, I have 2 sisters who had BC,an aunt on my mother's side, and my grandmother on my father's side. The geneticist felt that we have a gene mutation that hasn't been discovered yet.I look forward to meeting you (and Jill and Sue)! See you in Tampa.
    Karen
