Today I lost my most favorite cat...Tom. He was 14.
He had been very slowly falling apart since Christmas, and was being kept going with various pills and jabs, but to no avail.
Two weeks ago I decided enough was enough, and just let him fade away....he was still 'talking' to me yesterday, he was a very vocal cat, and we would meow back and forth each morning when he came in...good job I don't have any neighbours!
He was half Persian and half farm cat, very big and ungainly, and so filthy you just wouldn't believe, I mean I had to wash his face every 2 or 3 days, and each spring I ran the shears over him to get rid of his terribly matted coat. I have never before had a cat who didn't wash, he would just sit there and let his food dribble all over his coat!!! And ditto for the other end of him, I was always clipping goodness knows what from his nether regions and back legs!! Thats why he lived outside on the farm!!! When he came in for breakfast DH went out !!
I loved him because he was such a smelly ratbag, none of my other cats are as dirty as he was !!
I shall miss him terribly, but not the awful smell that followed him wherever he went !!!

Isabella,
I'm so sorry about Tom. My baby Sybil will "talk" to me as long as I care to "meow" to her. Vocal kitties are so entertaining and engaged in our lives.
Sending warm thoughts to you in this time of loss.
I like to believe that Tom is a happy, healthy, butterfly-chasing kitty now, and I bet he's running around with our dear puppy Fritz, just over the rainbow bridge.
