Well I guess I will actually start particpating in this forum. I have been reading it over and over for the past month. I was dx last month at age 29. Medullary breast cancer. All ER/PR/HER2 all negative. Pretty rare from what I am told and from the research I have done linked to BRCA1 gene mutation. I am paranoid for the results of the genetic test to come back.

Diagnosed Oct. 06, age 65. I have been fortunate, mastectomy but no chemo. On Arimidex, and it's not too bad (yet...).

Someone commented on so many responding here being relatively young, and I found that interesting, too, since increasing age is supposed to be a risk factor. I wonder if it might have something to do with women of my generation possibly being less techie-oriented than you younger gals. I work in the high tech field, but when I think of my friends, I know most of them would never find this group, much less participate.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you going through so much.

I was 48 at diagnosis, Oct. 06 - I had a mammogram and breast ultrasound in June 06, showing nothing (lol). I had a breast reduction Oct.16, 06 - my plastic surgeon found my 1.7 cm. tumour. Stage 1, ER+PR+her2+ - grade 2- MRM in Dec. 06, they found another 1.0 cm. tumour - 16 nodes all negative. Getting the BRCA 1 & 2 testing done, then will decide about the the left side mastectomy and ovaries.

It's amazing to read how many PRE-menopausal (I'm ''assuming'' anyway), or under age 50 women developed breast cancer. I was dx'd 5/06 at age 47 with invasive ductal carcinoma and was told I was in the MINORITY of women getting this type of cancer at my age. (sentinel node disease, 1.8cm tumor by chest wall, estrogen+)...and I find that simply is not true. True, we all have different stages and diagnoses, but wow, under 50....makes one wonder. Now age 48, done with 4 months of chemo/31 treatments of radiation/2 surgeries leading to partial mastectomy/port still implanted/tamoxifen meds for now.

I was diagnosed 2/16/07 and turned 50 a couple of weeks later on 3/5. Diagnosis came after biopsy for microcalcs found on routine mammo. Have very dense tissue and this was the first time anything had shown up.

Was found Jan '07, Age 56. I found the lump and my yearly mammo in June missed because of dense tissue. They say it started maybe 8+ years ago. Hope the new guide lines of MRI for dense tissue with family risk factors is used by more women to get this in a earlier stage before chemo is needed.

IDC, 2.5cm, grade 3, est+, pr-, her/2-, 1 of 23 nodes postive, did double mast because of family history with out reconstruction. Love not wearing a bra, something good did come from this cancer.

I was 37 and went to the doctor because my lymph nodes were swollen. He thought it was just an infection from possibly nicking myself with a razor. He scheduled a mammo "just to make sure". Had the mammo then 5 minutes later an u/s. The doctor couldn't feel any lumps in my breast. Radiologist felt the lump in my breast that the mammo showed wasn't connected to the swollen lymph nodes. 4 days after the mammo and u/s you could see the lump in my breast with the naked eye. Had a biopsy. Diagnosis was atypical medullary carcinoma with multi foci. I ended up having a modified radical mastectomy with 32 lymph nodes removed. 7 were malignant. They told my husband and daughter that it was very grave and the prognosis wasn't good. It will be 15 years in May since I was diagnosed. Which goes to show you that even the doctor's don't know for sure. I just went in for my yearly mammo in March and had to go back for a second one and a u/s. They found a mass about 6 mm in my right breast this year. Waiting for the oncologist's office to call and let me know when I can come in to try to have it aspirated.

I had just turned 54 when I was dx in Dec. 06. The lump I found early 06, was viewed as a cyst in March 06, I should have gone for a follow-up in June, but did not... and in December, it did not quack like a cyst anymore: IDC, 1.7cm tumor, grade 3, 2 sentinelle nodes positive, no axillary nodes involved. Had a bilat. mast. with no planned reconstruction (they found atypical hyperplasia in left "good" side), went through 4 DD AC (plus avastin), now undergoing DD Abraxane+avastine. No rad, probably tamoxifen for a year or 2 then Arimidex (or equivalent).

I was 61, mammogram in March 06, clear, found lump December 17, 2006, in right breast, self exam. Mammogram, ultrasound, biopsy, IDC, 2CM, lumpectomy, Clear nodes, er/pr+, now in chemo T-C followed by 33 rads and hormonal treatment 5 yrs. Keep checking your boobs ladies. Get it early, mine was there since 2003, but since it was little change and I have dense breasts it was never looked at as a concern. Ask questions, get educated, if mine had been less than 2 CM my treatment options may have NOT have included Chemo. To help future breast cancer patients, I have enrolled in the Taliorx Clinical trial to see if we are overtreating some breast cancer patients, using the oncotype test as a standard of care rather than tumor size.

The mother of one of my friends was diagnosed last year, had a mastectomy and is on Tamoxifen. I don't know other details - but I do know that she was 92 at that time and seems to be doing great!
