Janie, hope you get something going that helps your arm. I planted some herbs yesterday, another bleeding heart and I have some Lavender to put in so my patio will smell good. P.J. hows things going with your mom's house? Did you get Nathans school straightened out? Have a great day everyone. Mary
-
Oh, Janie, what a drag. I know I need to tend better to my arm, but I just don't.
Things are great here. Mary, Nathan has been moved to another class and life is very good. Meeting yet another contractor type at mom's house to get some things going there. She'll be here next week! Nathan drew her a Welcome Home, Grandma sign with a bunch of Texas-style stuff like boots and flags on it. Very cute. Hope she likes it.
NL, hope things are good out West. Mary, doesn't it feel good to get those things growing? Spring has sprung.
Paula -
Hey Girls, hope NL got good news. P.J. it does feel good to get the plants growing. I want to get my tomatoes going but haven't found any yet. Janie, I bet you are crunching those files with the end of school just around the corner. I have a neighbor that is an a*s. I think he hates females and life in general. I can't imagine what his wife must go through. You can't even say hi to him without a sarcastic remark. I don't have to see him often and he doesn't live real close but he is around to try to make people feel as nasty as he. If you say isn't it nice today? he would say "yea, if people would stay outta my life, I work too hard and hate to see lazy people like you". That kinda threw me for a loop. How do you respond to that kinda crap? I thought of plenty to say later like "forget your prozack today", or "ever heard of Zoloft?" but I just stood with my mouth gapping and wondering what the H#ll . I don't see him work, ever, just sit down the street at the auto repair shop and talk with his only friend. I don't think he has a job, he owns slum property he rents and don't take care of. He is one of those that you think could come unglued real easy. Thank God I don't have to see him often. I just wanted to check in and say hi. Later, Mary
-
mary, what a jerk! i am sure he has not been through even an 8th of what you have these last 3 years! he would never survive it.
nl, any news?
hey hey paula.
the lst day my arm was wrapped so tight the elbow would not bend and the fingers turned blue and went numb. it is obviously doing better now although i am still mummified. going to get a nighttime sleeve to end the wrapping.
yes mary, turning those reports out left and right. we go until the end of may. can't wait to be out for a while. -
Gosh Janie I can't imagine having to go through so much heck with that arm. I am glad you don't let it get you down. Hang in there girlfriend. Have a great wk. end everyone, Mary
-
Hey, Janie, did you figure out how to wrap your own arm? I got the sleeve (which, of course, I rarely wear because I hate it) because I couldn't figure out HOW someone would do that wrapping themselves. What kind of sleeves do they have for night? I might be able to swing that...
Have some guys over at mom's house, demo-ing the bathroom and getting ready for the new garage door Monday. She'll be here for real on Wednesday. Wow. Hope all goes well. I think she'll like it, if she can bear the heat. And I'm looking forward to it.
Hey to all,
Paula -
good morning,
actually, I have been wrapping at night since LE dx and can do it quickly. the new therapist did not realize this and was teaching me when she realized I already knew how to do it. she showed me three models of the nighttime sleeve all with their own good points. i chose one that is flexible if the arm swells (or i gain/lose weight), and it is not as heavy and bulky as one of the others. there is a very light weight one without the velcro straps, but it does not accommodate arm changes as well. the one i chose is a reid sleeve. i think there are several different ones of those. i will be fitted for the best one for me.
it is cold here in the morning and hot in the afternoons.
what a week, with the VT shootings and all. I lived beside the VA line when I was in TN. VT was only a little over a 100 miles from my hometown. it has a beautiful campus. i thought about going to grad school there before settling on UGA. blacksburg is a small beautiful town, not a place you would expect something like that to happen, but it never seems to be. they mentioned that on tv this morning. said people in big towns have other outlets and find other people like them, but in a small town they are more isolated and there is more of a tendency to react violently. -

Breast Cancer Vaccine Shows Promise
TUESDAY, April 17 (HealthDay News) -- U.S. scientists say they've developed a breast cancer vaccine that stimulates a powerful immune system response to tumor cells.
In mice, the "synthetic peptide" vaccine stimulated an anti-tumor T-cell response that identified and prevented the spread of breast cancer cells. T-cells are white blood cells that play an important role in immune response.
A team at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., tested the vaccine on female mice that had the cancer-producing oncogene HER-2/neu. The mice received the vaccine at the early stage of tumor development.
The vaccine either slowed or stopped the progression of breast cancer in all the mice, the team reported Tuesday at the annual meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research in Los Angeles.
Because synthetic peptides alone do not usually trigger a strong immune response, the vaccine was given in combination with a "Toll-like receptor" stimulant, which mimics the way invading bacteria would spur the immune system into action.
"We found that we could train the immune system to recognize these synthetic peptides as dangerous foreign agents of the HER-2/neu gene by mimicking what the bacteria would do in your body. The body responded by killing everything that expressed HER-2/neu in high amounts," study author Dr. Pilar Nava-Parada said in a prepared statement.
Using this approach, it would likely take only one immunization to build an immune system response powerful enough to destroy a tumor.
To date, attempts at creating effective cancer vaccines have produced mixed results. This and other new studies suggest that scientists are moving closer to creating viable cancer vaccines, the Mayo researchers said.

Wow. That's exciting!
Not much happening today. I'm about to go whip up some little turkey meatloaves for cooking later this week. Gonna stick the in the freezer so they'll be ready to just pop in the oven. We'll see how it goes...

Now thats some promising news Janie. Hope all had a great wk. end. Glad your Mom is almost moved in P.J. Hope NL is doing good. Mary

Hi, I'm OK just taking a lot of stuff that makes me tired. Bye for now. NancyLee

-
Hey Ladies, We are slipping. Had to look through several pages to find us. My arm is still mummified. Going down, but having to go to therapy daily and stay wrapped. Have a great night. JF
-
Hey Janie, glad your arm is going down some. I hope the ther. helps. They are to call me about some P.T. for my back and neck. I just want the knots rubbed out and I don't want to excercise because I have been down that road and it doesn't help just cause pain. I hope they call next wk.! P.J. must be busy helping mom. and NL must be getting well. Have a good wk. end girls, Mary
-
Hi Mary et al,
Still typing with 1 hand, but doing better. Will be glad when I finally go back to the sleeve. Hope all are doing well. Mary, hope your PT works out. My leg is now bothering me a lot. I think it is the long hours of sitting at the computer at work, although I try to make myself get up some. We have a couch in the office and I sat there Thursday with the leg propped up and the laptop. Seemed to help.
Have good weekend -
Hey Janie, I went to a rheumatologist last wk. to see why I get so stiff from sitting for just a short time and why my muscles feel like they have shrunk and pull on my bones causing pain. He did 11 viles of blood work and said this is a chief complaint of people that have gone through aggressive treatment and there may not be an answer except that the treatments are pretty toxic. I go back next month. He is testing me again for Lupus. The last Dr. did too and they really seem to like to test me for Lupus. I really do not think it is Lupus. Well I better get, I am getting things made for the craft show next month. Later, have a great wk. end girls. Mary
-
Oh Janie, the test....The first one was (tiger) pride and the last one was(pig) money. I will never be rich. Mary
-
hey, that is funny Mary. I like those cute little pet miniature pigs (which is probably not what they had in mind), and had it second on my list.....but no evidence of the green stuff and i did not buy a lotto ticket, so none is falling in my lap either.
do you have any blood left? that is a lot to remove. hope it all works out. my right knee/leg has been giving me problems. Chemo, especially taxol, is really rough, as i am sure you know very well. They have run bone scans on me a couple of times.
i will be glad to get the bandages off (why i am not bothering with the capitalization). it is a chore carrying this bulk around all the time.
later gators -
Janie, I have been making blueberry muffins and a pot of green beans. I am awfully good to me sometimes. Maybe I should treat me huh? Gosh I feel soo much better in the warm sunny weather. I am really antsy to go to Phx. but I just can't right now, I was just there in March. I have a friend going out in May and she really wants me to go too but can't. Oh well. I have to scoot, I have to run to the store. Later, Mary
-
Mary, Maybe it will not be long before you can move to Phoenix where you can eat cactus jelly and stay warm.
I am sure you have heard about Josh Hancock, Cardinals pitcher, being killed this morning in a car wreck. He had just turned 29. I know his family and the ball club are devastated. -
Hey, save some blueberry muffins for me! Been very busy with mom's move, plus we had to put one of our dogs to sleep today, and my job description is about to change significantly, so it's been kind of a trying last week. just wanted to check in and say hi. hope you both get all those limbs a'working....
hi to NL, too
paula -
Hey girls, Yea Janie thats really sad. Thats almost every little boys dream and his was cut short, how terrible. P.J. glad your still there...here....where u should be. Hope all is well at work and with mom. Hope NL is getting better. Janie, maybe we need a good vacation. Sun, surf, cabana boys with their bronze six pack abs glistening in the sun and their frothy hair blowing in the light warm breeze, holding a bottle of cool suntan lotion in one hand and a icy cold alcoholic beverage in the other with a colorful little umbrella stuck in it and some classy cheese doodles on a little yellow plate, looking us in the eyes as if to ask if we are ready to cool our hot bodies with a gentle rub down of suntan oil. EEEEKKKK! Whats that banging? My chase is rocking and someone is pounding on it what the #@**? Oh it's just the toolman, D#*n, he has to fix my chase NOW!!!!!!! Reality bites.... It could have been fun, I would hug you but I have suntan lotion all over. Mary

Just now got home from Plentywood in a spectacular thunder storm. The lightning is really scary/pretty. I saw my Mom or the lady who is and then again isn't my Mom. Alzheimers is a terrible thing, but she was so funny today that my brother and I left the room in giggles. She told me that I'm a "pill" and have always been her "most difficult child". Well, I guess that was the most lucid statement she made during the whole visit!! It's true and I agreed with her!! She seems so content there. I'm glad/sad/mad and every emotion in between. SIGH. On the medical front, my doctor chose to call me on Friday afternoon when I was sitting in the little corner restaurant in PW munching on a turkey sub. He asked if I could come to the hospital in Glendive and pick up a prescription. I told him I was 130 miles away and I didn't think so. I guess I have to go up to Glendive tomorrow after preschool and talk to him. He wants to run another bone scan and an MRI and he wants to do another colonoscopy although I argued with him that I still have 8.5 years to go until I'm supposed to need one of those. At least they told me when I had the first one that I was good to go for 10 years. LIARS!! So I have to set up some appointments for this week I guess. These things are getting kinda close to my Montana Womens' Run on the 12th and my Komen Race for the Cure on the 19th. They better find out what's up before then because I'm going to those events come HE** or high water. Think I'll go to bed and try to catch a few ZZZZZZZZs before I have to get up in a few hours and open the daycare. Oh, my SIL cut my hair really short again. I love it. It was getting shaggy. Nite all. Life is Good Smiles NancyLee
-
NL, hope you get good news and glad your back. Gosh it is hot today. I have been getting things ready for the art fair the 19th. I gotta get, later, Mary

Hey girls am I lost or just ADD? I went to pee, saw the shower curtain open and remembered I was going to scour the tub and shower yesterday. I better do that now but there are some clothes hanging to dry and they need put in the dryer to get the wrinkles out so I will do that but I discovered the rugs I washed this a.m. in the dryer and they need to go around some more as not dry yet so turned that on and decided to change my sweatshirt to something cooler but I saw the bed unmade and thought it is time to get the down comforter off and put the cool quilt on and as I grabbed the comforter I thought I need to just go ahead and change the bed sheets too so I took the down comforter and headed for the computer/spare bedroom/junk room/ storage room but put the comforter on the couch as I passed the living room so I could let the dog out and then I checked my tomatoes and flowers while I was out there and came in. I then went into the dinning room where I notice bits of thread and lint from my beading for the craft fair and thought I better vacume so I went toward the spare bedroom/ storage ect. room to get the vacume and saw the comforter so picked it up and continued to the junk etc. room and thought I would check in with the girls and here I am and I still have not scrubbed the shower so I better remember all I was going to do and I won't get any of it done because something else will pop into my mind and I will be walking around thinking I am busy and the thing is tonight I will actually think I am tired from all I have done or thought of doing and forgot! Mary
-
Mary, I had something to say about all that, but forgot what it was.
NL, hope your scans have good results
PJ, What job title will you have now? Hope you like the change.
OT did her calculations and said I had lost 40% (I guess 40% of what I need to lose...and had lost 1/2 pound of fluid) so I am getting there. Be so glad to get rid of the bandages. I need to go to bed. Have to get up in a few hours.
Later -
Mary, your little chemo brain saga should be over on the "Remote" thread because it sounds so familiar to many of the stories I've read on there. I know our brains are in there somewhere, but sometimes mine is definitely on the fritz. It was just beautiful here today and I got off work early and went for a walk with my dog. It's been a long time since I got to do that and I am going to get back into the nightly routine. I Love walking and hope the weather stays nice so that I can continue. I go up for another MRI tomorrow. Janie--I don't have any SURE news yet so that's why I haven't said anything. It's just been one test after another and I just try to remain calm and tell myself that they're just being cautious "because of my history". That's what they keep saying, "because of your History, we'll just run a few more tests to be sure". I would think that sooner or later I'll have had every test that has ever been invented and I can just go back to getting better. Enough rambling--gonna go to bed and catch a few ZZZZ's. NL, waiting for good reports. I did a good one. I picked up one of the grandkids from school(Bailey) aand he wasn't in the group, he went to aftercare thinking it was Thurs. so I had to park and go in. I locked the doors because I left my purse in the truck, I had the pickup. We got back to the truck and I pressed the button to unlock and nothing, I pressed again and nothing, I paniced because now I would have to call the city police to come get my door open(they do that here for free). I said crap Bailey my battery must be dead in my remote and I will have to call the cops. He said Grandma, why don't you use the key? I did and came on home.........I think I should not be left alone sometimes....Mary
-
There are 2 a's in and but it would not let me correct it. Mary
-
Don't you just LOVE computers Mary? I didn't even notice the 2 A's in and until you mentioned it!! I KNOW that I shouldn't be let out alone most of the time!!! But I was kinda like that before BC!! I took a book with me today and asked the tech if I could read in the MRI tube. He said that no one had ever done that before, but as long as it had no metal on it, I could try. I did fine when he had me stuffed all the way to the back doing my lower spine, but the he moved me forward and did the middle and upper by my neck and I didn't have room to hold the book away from right in front of my face. SIGH!! I was in there for an hour and a half and the reading that I was able to do made the time seem to go faster. My doctor said he doesn't want the radiologists to miss anything so he's going to tell them to take their time and look at every picture. I looked at a whole bunch of them with the tech and he told me what all the little parts were. It was quite interesting to see my back from all angles. This guy is way nicer than the ultrasound lady--he took lots of his time and explained a bunch of stuff to me. All in all--it wasn't too bad of an experience. Then my friend who drove me up and I went to the greenhouse and got some really cool flowers to plant. The kind that I got are called Celosia...They're pink!!! When and IF the wind ever stops blowing so hard--I'll think about planting them. Well, better get some daycare stuff onto the computer. Hope you all had a super Wednesday!!
