Wow! You Ladies really are totally great...I can't tell you how much it means that you all wrote such good wishes.

So my positive is after coming out of surgery, the doctor told me that she is pretty sure that the nodes (she took two) are clear...so radiation and tamoxifin (sp?) are in my future...

I admire those of you who have gone through chemo., as it sounds really difficult. I'm blessed that it probably isn't in my immediate future, but I feel for those who have it much worse than I do. I was so lucky that they found it early (on my first ever mammo...) Now I'm really pushing my friends and family to not put off those mammos. So many of us early 40s girls are "too busy" to get in there...hopefully, my case will encourage my pals to make that appointment.

So sorry to hear of the sad doggy story...they are such a part of the family...

Happy to hear of the good kitty diabetes story...

Well, better go to bed as the stitches are fresh and the eyes are drooping...you guys are so great. Thanks for letting me have a place to relate!

Well, I can't keep track of everyone's names and stories, so let me start by saying that I have read every post on this thread, I shout halalula for the poster of every happy story I read and I say a prayer for the poster of every not so happy story I read...You are all in my prayers at all times.

My news for the week...Plastic surgeon appointment on Tuesday. Drain tube out (boob-tube less, as I say), but I don't think my second surgery site is healing very well. Doctor said everything is ok, but if it's as oozy Monday as it is now, I'll be calling the doc back before my next appointment.

Oncologist appointment Wednesday. oncotype test to be run, and those results will be combined with the results of my path report to come up with the next course of action. I only have to wait three weeks for that. Trying to plan anything around appointments and treatments that might or might not happen is becoming quite the chore, so I'll be glad when we figure it out, whatever "it" might be.

So, my positives for the week...
    1. No drain tube.
    2. Weather is FINALLY getting somewhat normal. Upper 50's today, sunny, and mid 60's forcast for the rest of the week. I can't wait for it to be about 85 degrees out.
    3. Having all you guys to share what ever happens to be happening. Reading your stories of positives is always a "happy" thing.

Everyone have a good next few days before I post again.

Bosco - Great news about the nodes!! I remember waking up to the nurse telling me to put my arm down (IV in it) as I went feeling for drains.

Kathi - WOOHOO no drain tube!!

My positive for today (I've been an evil grumpy mood so I'm going to post positives every day for a while to beat this - I of course since I'm perfect is blaming the tamoxifen)

Dear Daughter cleaned the family room so she could have a friend stay over. Its cold and rainy here today but I said no to more driving kids - someone else agreed to drive them to the movie and mall (there is something about being diagnosed - moms are volunteering to drive the kids more than before ) And I cleaned our bathroom, livingroom, and kitchen so tomorrow is a free day for me!!

    Hey, Made! Thanks...
Yes, I already have people wanting to make dinner for us...told them to wait until the rad. starts, but everyone is offering to help out. I've done it a million times for others but feel a bit guilty accepting it from people...however, I know I always felt good helping out a friend, so I know it is making them feel like they are doing something other than worrying when they offer to help.

In the midst of all of this, my daughter broke her arm and the oven died...yikes...sort of took my mind off of having cancer, though.

Daughter is in a cast, and new oven was installed today. Those are two positives...plus, it's a rainy, windy, day...and I think it's beautiful because I'm finally on the road to a new beginning...

    We're halfway there...livin' on a prayer!~ JBJ

    Love, Bosco

No too much going on here today, it started out to be nice and sunny but is clouding in now ...I wanted to work in my rose gardens today but decided not to....I still have the drain in from Mondays surgery..I think maybe I slept on it or something becuause the lower part of my shoulder blade on that side is sore...that bruised muscle sore...I looked to make sure there is no reddness, didnt see any so I think maybe I have just been using that arm a little too much. It will be removed Monday afternoon...YEEEEEE HAWWWWW!!!!!
I got a test message from a friend letting me know he will be here Tuesday afternoon to take me to dinner and plans to spend the rest of the week here after my surgery Wensday. For some reason he seems to think I need a babysitter ....have known him forever so not really sure why he would think that(ha, ha, think he knows me too well)
Well, guess I should at least get the dishes in the washer so I can say Ive done something today ....Oh, I forgot, I did do something today. I made my 13 yr old nephew and I lunch .....he came for the day to do some of the housework in prep for this week...he's such a sweet boy....My youngest brother is a single dad so I try to help out with his son whenever I can so we are really close. Shhhhh, dont tell his dad I let him play his game on the computer all day and will do the housework myself ....
Ok, Ok, now that Ive written a book I will go .....dang, I cant imagine how bored Im going to get this next 3 wks being stuck home and not being able to do anything....
But I guess this is a good warning to all you great ladies!!!!!! Im going to drive myself looney!!!!!!!!!
Hugs to all, I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend...

Jule - I missed the surgery this week - my you have kept those surgeons busy - I will be thinking of you on Wednesday - but after reading letting the 13 year old out of work duty (I have a 13 year old daughter and soon (Friday ) to be 16 year old son - work duty is a requirement and no teen should get a free day - lucky him to have you as an Aunt)am glad that your friend is coming a day early - rest before the surgery too - it will help with recovery. You should get a bunch of books from the library and plan a new garden - from layout to the plants - study up on new ways to garden (I'm reading a book on Lasagna Gardening right now) and enjoy the down time!!

Bosco - I am post treatment - finished rads in February - but since I've been a Girl Scout leader for 10 years - feel no guilt about letting others offer - am glad that others are offering cause I realized that there is way more to life than running kids during all this cancer stuff.

My positives for today - I can't see a dandelion from kitchen window - I dug up all the ones within my vision from the kitchen - will get the rest in the next couple of days. Jokingly I was offering my services for murder this week (that is as bad as the mood was) so the dandelions filled in fine. Course I'm a little ticked at the neighbors on both sides for not attacking theirs but...... And I don't feel as angry as I did all week - so I'm getting over this pmsing x1000 mood swing thing.

And it was above freezing and sunny today. I have no idea yet how my gardens are going to react to the hard freezes of last week - should be interesting.

And last of all I'm done spring cleaning the kitchen - the cabinets, pitchers and bowels on top, the range hood and appliances are all wiped down. (my parents come 2x a year works good for motivated cleaning).

    Wishing everyone a good week.

Jule, in answer to your questions, I work as an administrator of children's mental health programs. I work for a community mental health center in the Florida Keys. I love my job, and I have supportive friends there.
I don't really have any hobbies, but I like to read mysteries and do a little gardening.
We have had a rainy day here which is good - we need the water.

My positive is that I have read here off and on all day and the knowledge I have gained has empowered me.
I had no idea how much we need to learn in order to make the right decision.

You gals are all too funny! I love coming here to see what new thing you've written to make me laugh so hard I piddle!

I hear ya about the weeds! My daughter's first communion party is on Sat. and the weeds are killing me faster than I'm killing them...

Good luck, Miss Jule...I'm sorry that you have to go through all of this...but as Grandma Irma said in all of her wisdom...This Too Shall Pass...

Lotsa love to ya all...gotta go correct some papers in prep. for going back to school after Lymph Node Spring Break...girls gone wild indeed!

Valerie, I'm sorry to hear about your doggie! Pets become part of our family and it's very hard to lose them.

I had a great and wonderful day yesterday with my friend J. We shopped at LUSH and I bought lots of stuff! Then we went to Sephora (another deadly Pit of Gluttony) and I bought some silver glittery nail polish. We had lunch, we Starbucked, she helped me pick out a cute short haircut from a style magazine. We were having so much fun that it was 5 PM before we knew it!

I had my first meeting with my oncologist earlier in the week. He told me what a pleasure it was to have such a well-informed patient, and I made his job a lot easier. I said I owed my knowledge to this site! I'm glad I found bc.org and its wealth of support and information.

Jule, best of luck with the surgery! If you don't have one of those portable DVD players, get one - it helps when you are stuck in bed. Stock up on chicken soup, too - it became a staple after-surgery food for me.

Have a great and positive week, everyone!

Weeeellll, the only positive spin I can put on today is that because of the nor'easter we have water in our family room and that means the floor is getting a good bath! The cats were too funny though. Their food and water are usually in the laundry room. Bootsie, the b & w shorthair, stood on the bottom step and didn't go down right away. She is not the brightest bulb on the sign but we love her anyway. She landed on teh wet floor, ran around trying to find a dry spot, hissed and spit and growled the entire time and took off for under the bed in the back room. That was around 11 AM and we haven't seen her since.

So, Valerie, i know exaclty how you are feeling about your dog. These two clowns are so much a part of us.

Jule, hope to talk to you before your surgery. If I miss you, enjoy having company and someone to do things for you. Chicken is the good medicine for gettign better.

Crystal, I need to check out LUSH. Sounds wonderful! What did you have at Starbucks? I miss the cinnamon dulce lattes. but looking forward to iced coffee for the summer!

Made, I need a good push for spring cleaning and this storm will be good incentive. I need to get pet stains out of the living room carpet though. Got any good suggestions?

See you guys during the week. Sorry if I missed anyone but I am so tired tonight! Bosco, keep smiling!

    Made,
When did you say you were coming to visit here???? I was looking out the window today and see that those HORRID yellow monsters are over taking my back yard!!!! I also have a couple of neighbors that let things go so the rest of us have to fight to keep them away....
I know what ya mean about the teens never getting a freebie, but HEY, Im the AUNT for a reason I was what my two kids called "a hard ass" when they were growing up and now my daughter says she sees herself in my and some of the things she does with her kids so I guess I did something right ....
She just commented about something that I did a long time ago with my ex-husband that stuck in her mind so she tried it and it worked for her too....he was forever leaving his socks next to his chair and never picking them up....I got tired of it and if I picked them up they went in the garbage....after he was down to about 3 pr of socks he asked where the heck they had all gone ...I just smiled and asked if he had put them in the laundry....My daughter was having the same issue with her other 1/2.....it took him down to "one" pair to ask the fateful question....I laughed so hard when she told me about it .....

PBD-it sounds like you have a wonderful and very interesting job...its nice to have co-workers that are supportive...mine are too and Im not sure what I would have done without them....

Crystal-Im happy you had such a wonderful day yesterday with your friend....a true friend is something that is irreplacable at times like this!!! I wish all of us here lived close enough that we could get together for one HUGE girly day....wouldnt that be fun!!!!!!

and last but NOT least-BOSCO- now what did we tell you about that piddling stuff ....from now on one of your requirements for being a member here is to make sure you use the potty before reading!!!!!!
and by the way I like your grandma irma, she's my kind of lady.....cant keep a good girl down ....

    Hugs to all of ya...

Im looking forward to Will coming for the week....Ive known him for many many years but hadnt talked to him much over the last 15 or so.....he heard rumor through the grape vine about my bc and called immedidately....has been calling several times a week, sending flowers, cards and such every since....he's really a great guy....too bad he is about 15 yrs older than me ....

I hope you dont get too wet!!!! made me chuckle about your cat....I dont have animals, well I guess I do...I have two cocktiels....the male I have had since he was about 3 months old...that guy has a personality on him!!!! I didnt know that they could learn to talk....he's a smart one too....has about a 30-40 word vocabulary and whistles about 10 or so different songs...the female I got because I felt bad leaving him home alone while I work...she was wild as a march hair when I got her and she has really never taken a liking to me, but did my son so he was able to tame her, but she doesnt talk or sing ....

Well, guess Ive played here about enough for one day so am going to look to see if there is anything good on tv then head to bed.....
Hope everyone sleeps well and has wonderful dreams tonight....

You would think when you have a day off work you could sleep in!!!!!!! NOPE, not me!!!!!

I have a couple of Dr. appts today and they werent able to schedule them close together so took the day off....

First appt is with oncologist, of course they will draw MORE blood....Im not really sure what all the blood stuff is for, assumed it was because Im taking tamoxifen but now that my head has cleared a little from all this I fully intend to ask him today why the heck they think they need to take 2-3 vials every dang time I walk in the door!!!!

My next appt is a much better one....surgeon will give me the final path report on that stupid cyst and remove my drain (little does he know that Im going to make my onco give me the results so I will alreayd know ).....the drain hasnt been as bad as I thought but did keep me from doing some of the things I wanted to get done around the house in prep for this weeks surgery ....Oh well guess those things will still be there when I get better....

Made, my little brother bought me a new rose yesterday....it is called a Peace Rose....mom has one and it is beautiful....the bloom is a whitish/yellow and has pinkish/red that runs through the veins of the petals....Oh and the scent!!!!!!

Just after it got daylight this morning I was outside walking around....it froze again .....my bleeding hearts got hit pretty bad....they had just started blooming too ...I have a hot pink on that is about 18 yrs old...I bought it from my sons cub scout group, my son is 26....it is beautiful when it is in full bloom but they dont last very long as we get very hot weather here.

Ok, enough rambling, need to get in the shower and head to town for a day of Drs. and friends....am meeting up with two girlfriends for lunch between appts....

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!!!!!!

Thanks to everyone for your kind words about my dog. CrystalCat you are so right- they do become part of the family especially when you have no children!

Jule- Good Luck this week, please keep us posted. I read with awe about your rose garden. I have only two rose bushes that I have somehow managed to keep alive. They do get buggie though. Any suggestions as to how to handle that?

The storm is still hanging around here. I think the rain total has reached 7 inches. There are numerous problems with flooding but I still managed to get to work!! Thankfully , the pond down the street from me has behaved. Others I work with haven't been as lucky. Lots of flooded basements. I'm hearing we're actually going to see the sun again around mid-week!!! I can't wait!!!

    Valerie,
If you are talking about those little aphid bugs, yes,,, buy some blue dawn dishsoap, mix it like you are mixing dish water but a little stronger in a spray bottle and spray them down...it kills those bugs on contact....you can use it on all your flowers and garden stuff.

Gotta run, Dr. appt in a few.....will check back later

The weather took a real turn here, it was so windy last night I had a hard time falling asleep.
I had a mini positive today, my surgeon called to say he talked to a radiologist who does mammosite and I may be a candidate for it. The thing is, I don't have clean margins. My surgeon has gotten me all pumped up 3 times in the past. He said after the biopsy, he didn't think what he removed was cancer. Path comes back and it most certainly is. After the lumpectomy, he says he feels confident he got it all. Path comes back; he didn't.
You get the picture. I really think it would be better if he didn't make those statements.
I tried tp get my family doc to prescribe MRI's and she said that would need to be ordered by the oncologist. I called the onc and he said to see if the new surgeon wants it done. I explain that I really would like to have more certainty that the other breast is clear before I make a final decision.
Oh well. I feel very upbeat anyway. I chatted with the onc for a while; I really do like him.
I am getting used to the idea that this is going to drag on a bit.
I have spent hours reading here and it has helped me so much.

    YE HAW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had my appt with onco today and the surgeon ....they both showed me the pathology report on the cyst....it really was just a cyst......B-9 was stamped all over the report...
The surgeon removed my drain today so another great positive!!!!! he said that along with the cyst and the fatty tissue around it were 15 more nodes so he had them all tested too....they also confirmed that I am CANCER FREE!!!!!!
I dont know why this came as such a huge relief to me...they told me it was b-9 the day of surgery, but I guess I was waiting for the other shoe to fall....
Just wanted to share my excitement with you ladies....hope everyone else is doing well too....

Its nice to have that final confirmation - congrats Jule.

Tricia - If you want to talk to someone about Mammosite - PM me - I had it in February and my doctors have been doing it for almost 5 years here - I would strongly recommend it if you are a candidate!!

My positive for today is that I've been accepted by Voices of Mammosite (http://www.voicesofmammosite.com) as a volunteer and I got a nice packet with volunteer guidelines, website marketing to pass out and a great bag, hat and fleece jacket in my favorite color Blue just in time for our Race for the Cure. Plus I got all these cute birthday cards reminding friends to get their mammograms (I'm already obnoxious about that so this will give everyone a huge laugh)!!

Beth - we pulled our living room carpet and put in mexican tile - so no recommendations there - Sorry.

Jule - is your surgery tomorrow? Thinking of you and sending quick recovery vibes your way.

CrystalCat - sounds like you had a great day and hope you are having wonderful baths with all those great sounding bath items - baths with great smelling stuff is my favorite things!!

Jule - thinking about planting my rose this weekend (early but I can always cover it if there is a frost) is there anything I should do the prep the soil? Should I trim bush back after planting?

Hope everyone is having a great week.

Thanks for the postive thoughts ladies.....

Made, there really isnt anything to prep for if you have good soil..if the soil is hard then I usually mix it with some peat moss or potting soil....if the plant already has growth on it the I just trim about an inch or so off the tips and leave it at that...

My friend brought me two new ones yesterday so will have to have my son plant them this weekend for me.....

Sorry cant cant chat with each one of you today ....I need to finish packing my bag for surgery this morning, but wanted to check in for a moment....

Will talk with all of you in a couple of days.....I expect there to be tons of positive posts here by the time I get back so keep up all the wonderful thoughts .....

Jule, hope everything went well this morning. You know we are all there watching over you. Check in when you can. I won't call and disturb you until I see you posting.

BTW, what's so bad about an older guy? Especially if you know him well. Give it a shot. Ya never know.

Miss S, love the avatar! Is it new? I don't remember it.

I had to post my positive sooner then Friday. I went to the ps and had a great pre-op check. I posted on the recon thread about it. Suffice it to say, he really put my mind at ease. He also gave me samples of Cymbalta to help with the mild depression but it gave me severe nauseau so we need to try something else.

To all the rest of the PGC's, have a great hump-day, what's left of it, and see on Friday!

One more positive, we have a great response to the Philly get-together this Saturday, the 21st. If you know if anyone who may not read the get-togethers forum, tell them to pm me and I will fill them in. Or they can email, bethpknits-pink@yahoo.com.

I hope all went well, Jule.

Ever since I have been educating myself, I have been in a pretty upbeat mood. It's funny, my best friend since 4th grade was diagnosed in January. She had 8 weeks od chemo prior to surgery which she had a week or so ago. It made her mad that no one told her what to do straight out. I prefer being told all the options and then choosing my plan of action. We are just different that way.
She doesn't know the type of cancer she has and doesn't care to. I want to know everything.
    My positive
I decided I wanted an MRI prior to seeing the new breast surgeon next Monday. (Didn't get clean margins.) I want to be very sure only one breast is involved before I have another surgery. Since my ILC is multifocal, if there are spots in other places, I wouldn't bother trying for clean margins again.
My PC doc (her office manager) said at this point something like that would have to be ordered by the oncologist. Called him and he said to wait and see if the new surgeon wants it. Oh well.
So last night at 7pm, my PC doc calls to hear why I wanted the MRI. She listened to my whole rational, then said that made a lot of sense and would go ahead and see if the insurance co would approve it. She listened to me!!! She agreed with me. And it was 7pm!!! I love her.

Hey Beth, glad your preop went well.... you're gonna look gorgeous and perky! Yes, this is a new avatar pic. I grabbed it off a myspace graphics site somewhere. They have oddles of graphics small enough to use for this purpose. Glad you like it!

Tricia, I cannot even imagine not knowing what kind of cancer I have!!! I had a friend with bc a couple of years ago and she never mentioned anything about stages or what kind of treatment she was getting. All she knew was she had breast cancer and she was getting chemo. I didn't find out all the ins and outs of bc until I got it. I was shocked at all there is to learn! Now people that know me hear ALL the scoop! LOL They are getting an education right along with me (whether they want one or not).

Your doc sounds wonderful and I can see why you love her!

    Thinking of you, Jule!

Made, congrats on being the new Mammosite Queen! I know you'll be great!!

    Have a great week everyone!

Jule - thinking of you and hope you are resting comfortably.

Beth - glad the appointment with the PS went well - sorry about the meds - hopefully something else won't make you nausea.

Tricia - WOOHOO on the MRI - my bs ordered one for me and really put my mind at ease - then when I was talking about wanting one every couple of years - he didn't think that was necessary. So the next time I ran into the radiologist that caught my cancer he liked the idea but said to wait 18 to 24 months after surgery - now they are recommending for high risk or history of....You have to be educated to deal with all this. That's great that your PC called and listened - those are the best doctors!!

Miss S - that is a positive for all my friends and family too - they are getting a full education on breast cancer.

I stopped to show off my mammosite bag today at the radiation oncology group on my way out. Leslie the brachytherapy nurse showed me a new catheter - its multiple tubes (4 - 10) that form an oval - I liked the concept (more targeted radiation) but the idea of having more than one tube sticking out ... I hated my catheter tube most of the time - can't imagine more than one.
