Well, I'm trying to "close the barn door after the horses have left"......but has anyone else been told they must get their flu shot......This is the 1st year post diagnosis/treatment, I didn't get it and I have a "whopping" case of the flu.....so just reconsidering my health plan for next year.
I wonder what other feel about their immune system.......???
How are you working to keep yours strong?
Does anyone take Cold FX - I took it last year and it really seemed to help - I work in an environment full of colds/flu (Primary Teacher)
Would love some suggestions as this current illness has made me think. I'm not one to experiment with a wide range of herbal remedies - more mainstream ideas preferably.
What about massage?
I'll look forward to your ideas.

    Janet,

Don't know about post treatment.. but I was told by doc to get the flu shot pre chemo treatment this past fall.

I am one year post diagnosis and my doc told me to "Get the Flu Shot!" I think he was trying to tell me it wasn't just a suggestion. I get it every year anyway so it was nothing new for me.

I don't get the flu shot, never had the flu and never had the shot.
My doctor doesn't push it, he doesn't get it either.

I was not yet diagnosed when I got the flu shot this year. I've got a child under 24 months old at home so it is recommended that my husband and I get it along with the kiddo.

I don't know how effective it is, but it's now Feb and we've all managed to escape getting the flu this year. (touch wood!)

I am also 2b, diagnosed June 2005. The doctor said definitely get a flu shot this year and I did. Last fall (2005) when I was having chemo I was told not to get it. I have not had a cold this year and I think its because of the flu shot, my sister has had 3 bad colds already this winter.

I wish my doctor had told me to get it! I didn't get a shot, have never had one and haven't had even so much as a cold, never mind the flu, for years and years. Well, this year I've had the flu twice and I keep getting coughs and sniffles - I can't seem to go more than a couple of days without something. I didn't have chemo or radiation, but I think my resistance must be down because of the surgery, stress, etc.....

    Me too.
I also never had to have treatments. 1st Mast. April 2004,
    2nd March 2005. Ovaries removed 2005.
I don't seem to be able to fight off colds or flu's.
Normal year, I may get one cold and it's gone in 2 weeks. Not now, I am so tired all the time but can't sleep.

My doctor recommended the Flu Shot, and as I had had it the year before with no colds or flu, I had it again. Normally they cost about $20-$25, but if you have or had cancer they are free.

My husband, sister and family have all had the flu this year, and even though I'm going thru chemo I have not had any...touch wood.

I have heard Cold FX can interfere with chemo so you should check with your onc on that.

    Good Luck.

    Joni
