MI Survivors

And today I wake up with snow covering the ground...spoke too soon. I just found out my workplace is entering the Race for the Cure. I still haven't signed up yet...trying to pin DH on whether to do the walk or the run.
-
Chris,
Please tell us you're still gonna be part of our Team......wouldn't be the same without you.
Mary -
I will be there...I am so looking forward to it. I checked out the team yesterday...we need to go for at least 23 members to win the "most survivor" category. Any way we can recruit. How 'bout it ladies?
-
Do recruits need to also be survivors ? I may be able to get a recruit or two, but they're not survivors. I will try to recruit one other survivor that I know, we'll see.
-
Anne,
Hope you're having a wonderful Birthday.
Mary -
Anne...happy birthday!
Judy...I think we are trying to grow our team with survivors and their friends/families. There are categories that they give awards for...and we figured the one we would be most likely to get...is the most surviviors award. But who knows...we could win something else too! So MI ladies...lets get recruiting our friends and families! I am going to the website right now to sign up. -
We are registered!!!

Hi
I am a Michigander living in Plymouth. I was diagnosed in February, 2007 and had a modified radical mastectomy with sentinel node biopsy on left breast on March 5, 2007. I will be starting chemo at St. Mary's in Livonia on April 18th. I would love to get to know other survivors in Michigan
Bev920 -
Hi Bev. I'm not too far from you. I live in Westland, and I grew up in Livonia (my brother and youngest sister were born at St Mary's Livonia )
I had a lumpectomy in February 07 and am about half way through radiation.
Wishing you the best with the chemo (((hugs))) -
Hi Everyone,
My modem croaked at home so I went through withdrawals all last weekend without a computer or phone. I have voice over internet and you guys know I'm not a phone talker but still, I kept checking my messages from my cell just in case.
I had these plans to get the Komen posters or make my own with our logo on them. I never got to it. If anyone want the posters, let me know and I can get them.
The race is for EVERYONE and the more the merrier! We are pushing for the most survivors but it is just a fun goal, no pressure.
Some people do fund raising and I actually do not. However, I'm thinking of putting something out at work since I've been hit-up for every school band, girl scout troop, golf contribution and charity you can think of this year. Maybe I will join them. One woman raised 700.00 for children's cancer just by leaving an envelope and signature sheet in the kitchen. Well, heck - I can do that.
I wanted to list how many members we have so far but see their web site is down for maintenance this morning. I see Chris and DH are in - yay!
Hope Ann and Pat had nice birthdays.
Kay - thinking of you and your DH even when I don't post. Hope you pack some pounds on him.
Welcome newbies. I'm also originally from your neck of the woods. I hope we can plan another get-together before the race and get to meet you.
Ok, finally - this weather #!()#)&$%
Sigh - it's Michigan!

Hi Bev, sorry you have reason to be on the boards, but I'm very happy you found this thread. We're planning to do the Komen walk June 16; how about joining us? I'm told there's a trolly if you don't feel up to walking. I look forward to meeting you next time we gather for lunch.
Nancy - My sympathies on your computer problems. It's silly that we're all so dependent when you think how recently the internet came into common use. Our internet was down here at work for a couple days, and we couldn't do anything!
I've registered for the walk, now I need to do a little bit of fundraising. I've decided I'm not going to kill myself, just put a sign-up in the kitchen here at the office, and send a few emails to freinds and family.
2 rads treatments under my belt. I like the treatment techs? nurses? so much better than the gals who did my set up. I'm feeling much better about things.
Take care all. Before we know it, it'll be June and we'll be getting together again!
Anne -
I registered today, so that's 4 more added to the Team.
Nancy How many are now registered?
Mary -
Our Team has 12 members already! We are doing great for it still being April. We even have a member who is up on fundraising.
Hey, we have a new member as I write! Make that 13! Welcome to 'Wings of Hope'! -
Hey all...I challenged my friends/family to join our team...so we might get a few more. We should plan an after race event...maybe a picnic. I think we could hang out in that area or even drive north or west a bit. Or maybe just reserve places at Hockey Town?
-
Hi. I'm Nancy. I am new to this forum. I wondered if there are any other women from Livingston County who are survivors or in treatment. Does anybody know of any support groups in Livingston County that meet in places such as Howell, Brighton, or Fowlerville?
-
Hi, Nancy. I'm Kay--I live in Livingston County. I don't know of any support groups around. Hope you can join our Michigan group at our next gathering.
-
Hi Nancy, Nancy here! There are a few women online who are from Livingston County. I'm hoping they will send you a private message and will know more about support groups. I do know that both UofM and St. Jos' meet monthly but that would be in the Ann Arbor. They both have an annex in Brighton so you may find something through them.
My friends are planning on joining the team so I can tell we are going to have a big group this year. Maybe we will get the most survivors prize!
Trish, Candi, Lori Anne, shel .. others going through treatment and other stuff. How are you doing? Check in so we don't freak out.
3Bears - are you and family joining our team this year? Irene, LuckyAnna ... cmon and join!
Kay, how is DH today?
Have a great weekend everyone!

Nancy -
Hi Nancy,
I'm another from Livingston County. Live in Hartland but am in and around Brighton and Howell during the week. Sorry we had to meet, but am glad that you found the boards!
Hugs,
Denise -
Hi Girls!
Hope all is well with each and everyone of you!! Enjoying the nice Spring Weather? NOT!

Let me know where you went on the Komen Race site to register...I'm going to look it up and send it to my family!
Hugs,
Denise -
Hi Denise,
Here's a link to the registering:
http://www.active.com/framed/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1416438
Click the pink box that says Register On Line Go, when the new page comes up be sure to chose Team Member Registration.
There will be 4 steps in all to the registration process:
1. Accept Waiver 2. Complete Form 3. Submit Payment 4. Print Receipt
In step 2 be sure you chose our Team 'Wings of Hope', there is no Team password for our Team.
If you are registering for your family too be sure to register them as a Team Member and for our Team or if they are registering themselves be sure to tell them to register as a Team Member and to chose our Team 'Wings of Hope'.
Hope this helps.
Mary -
Hey Mary - We are writing at the same time! I had the link from the Komen site but I see that the active.com site is works just as well. So, I guess if one is down, try the other.
This is already buried a few pages back....
Wings of Hope
http://www.karmanos.org/detroitraceforthecure/index.asp
Denise - no pressure to do the team stuff. Twist your sister's arm to join our team instead of individual.
Pat - You joining the team this year?
Tonya and Pam - C'mon & join us! Yoohoo - where are you Tonya?
I wrote this earlier and it is a repeat of what kats said already but here goes....
A few notes about the Komen site:
1. It should not ask you for a password to join the team. I didnt set it up with one.
2. Most of us are selecting 5K walk but there are a few that do the 5K run.
3. You can take the trolley if you want and they have Trolley Gifts.
4. There is no pressure to fundraise. Some did great last year with it and others prefer not to.
5. If you want to save on the t-shirt postage, I am going to pack-up t-shirts on June 2nd and Irene already said she would join me. Everyone is welcome if you want to join us. If we dont meet between then and the race, Ill get to the race early enough to give them to you.
I always feel like I'm on NPR when I try and get everyone to sign up! That's right ladies, gents & kids, only a few months to go to be a part of a wonderful team, Wings of Hope!

Hey Nancy,
You know what I just realized? As soon as you click on the pink 'register on line go' box on the Karmanos site that you posted it takes you to the active.com site that I posted.
I started on the Karmanos site when I was going to post a link for Denise, I clicked the pink box there which brought up a new page. I then pasted the http address from that new page which I didn't realize then had changed names from karmanos.org to active.com
Chris brought up the question about what to do after the race: picnic somewhere, lunch at Hockey Town or something else. Any thoughts?
Mary -
Hi Nancy/All Michigan Pals/Mary(Kats)
I feel so sad to read all this about the race because my little grandbaby's 2nd birthday is June 15th and she lives in Milwaukee!!! You all know where I will be on that weekend, right??? What's a Grammy to do??? Here's my question - I was able to walk last year and still went to her birthday party in Milwaukee - soooooooooo, did they change the date this year??? DARN!! I'm just worried that the race date is always going to coincide with with her birthday. If I was able to walk I would probably have at least 3 of my sister-in-laws join us too.
Someone please tell me if they changed the date this year. I am curious.
Hope all are doing well. Look forward to another get together.
Hugs to all,
Pat -
Hi Everyone,
Happy Belated Birthday Pat and Ann! Hope they were happy.
Ann Cast? Why do you have a cast? How are you doing now?
Anne Glad to hear your scans turned out okay and that rads are going okay.
Ill be signing up for the team soon. Just getting caught up financially since DH returned to work. Nancy Im still in for June 2nd, also. Sounds like well have a large team this year. Pat They did change the date, you arent imagining things. Last year it was on June 10. It stinks that you wont be able to make it this year.
We had a shooting in our building at work this week. It happened on the second floor, and were on the third so luckily we werent involved except for having to stay in our office for 2 ½ hours waiting to be evacuated. It was quite the surreal experience.
Well, off to finish the laundry ..
Take care,
Irene -
Irene:
Thanks for assuring me that I wasn't imagining things!! I hope they make it earlier (or later) next year so I can participate - it does make me sad to miss it, really.
Irene, oh my gosh, I never dreamed I knew anyone who was in that building where the shooting took place. I think I'm happy I didn't know you were in there - I would have been worried sick!! That was all so sad and so senseless. I feel so badly for that lady's family. Honestly, you never know in the morning what the day will bring, do you?? Guess we need to savor it all.
Well, once again, thanks for the clarification and let's just hope they make it earlier or later next year.
God bless,
Pat -
Hi Friends!
I hope to register soon! I will let the girls know and I'll probably register all of us. My DD is trying to talk my DS to come home from AZ for the weekend. I don't think it will work, but I'd love to have him and fiance walk!
Irene: How scary that you were in that building. What sick people are out there. Actually the lady that was killed was a member of the family of DD good friend. So sad for all.
Kay: How is your DH doing?
Hugs,
Denise -
Irene...we must work close to each other...we are two buildings over and we too were on the lock down.
Denise...so sorry to hear of your friend. -
Hi Nancy (and all!)
Are we going with the "traditional" t-shirt or are you talking of something different?
I'm getting ready to email my family and let them know what is going on. If we register early it's 25.00 for adults and 12.00 for the younger crowd, right? I've been on the Komen site..just didn't want to register till I found out for sure about t-shirts and cost.
Thanks,
Denise -
Yep Denise - just the traditional t-shirts. Sorry so slow in getting back to you. Yes, on the prices also.
We have another new member today. That makes 14 so far. I'll post first names if no-one minds. Some names are not familiar to me so you may want to thank your friends and/or family for joining if they do not post her.
Chris and Irene - that is too bizarre about that shooting. You may have ridden the elevator or walked the parking lot with that guy and not known it. Sorry about your friend Denise. Now today's news about Virginia Tech. I'm stunned.
Pat, sorry you will miss walking with us but indeed you must be with your grandbaby. Have an extra piece of cake for me. You could always join the team and still get your pins, hat and t-shirts and be on the team roster. Hmmmm - just a thought.
Ann - I missed about the cast also. How are you doing?
Anna - rads going ok? They will go by fast. Just think, you are on the home stretch.
All the newbies - don't be shy, how is everyone?
xxxooo
Nancy -
