Atelectasis

Options

I was in the ER with diverticulitis. They did a CT scan of myabdomen and pelvis. My CT scan showed “dependent atelectasis”. My oxygen level was also dropping to 88% when I was dozing off. I did not get a full scan of my chest and they did not use contrast. Of course I googled it and of course it can be a sign of a tumor. I’m 7 years out from stage 1 (maybe 2) TNBC. Just curious if anyone else has experienced this and it turned out to be a benign situation.

Hi Brightsky, This is anecdotal of course but I will just give my experience. I am TNBC (9 years NED) 1.5 cm tumour and grade 3 and have had atelectasis show up a couple of times and have my O2sats drop to 88 periodically (read by my Apple watch).

I also have had diverticulitis scans a few times that have shown odd things that either resolve or stay the same. I am not sure whether the discomfort or gas or whatever that often goes along with my diverticulitis I sometimes wonder whether it causes the atelectasis (which I only discover accidentally by reading reports. It is never mentioned so I never worry). I had it post mastectomy as well.

It would be good to discuss with your primary care person to see if you need follow up. Sadly I still worry about recurrence 9 years later. I hope you get some answers soon. Keep us posted.
