Best of luck at the polls Ruth!

-
Ruth, happy election work and I'm loaning you my stamina ( I know, sometimes questionable ) because it will be another scorcher outside and I don't plan on needing much to sit around in air conditioning.
-
Cardplayer, that cartoon says it all, but is also pretty nauseating for its depiction of truth.
-
Hope your day goes well, Ruth!
I haven't been listening to the hearings, but have heard a few summaries of what's being said. My thoughts go back to the time that NFL quarterback Colin Kapernick took a knee during the National Anthem in peaceful protest of racial inequality which started a tsunami of other players doing the same. Teams didn't know the right way to address the matter. I'm in Pittsburgh Steeler country, and for one game their players all decided not to come on to the field for the National Anthem. This created such a backlash towards a team infamous for its legions of fans all over the U.S. The news stories started showing some fans taking their massive collections of Steelers memorabilia and throwing it all in the trash, burning it, doing away with the room in their house decorated in all things Steelers, and claiming they would never watch another Steelers game, ever.
All over not standing for the Star Spangled Banner.
And yet. Many of these same people are okay with the attempted violent overthrow of the Capital and the domestic terrorists trying to disrupt the peaceful transition of power? WTF????
I would like to see the hearings change some minds of Trump ass kissers. Anyone still following Fox is certifiably mental in my book.
Dh and I live in Trump country and riding on some back roads last week we saw a two story house with a great big banner that said, “Trump Lost. Get Over It." We both laughed and cheered. Such sentiments are not often publicly displayed around here.

One other thing. How about da Donald turning on #1 princess daughter, whose looks he incestuously bragged about, who was so important to him when he was in office that she often took over First Lady duties. I am loving it:
“Ivanka, 40, agreed with Barr's statement that the Justice Department found no fraud sufficient to overturn the election, per CNN.
Sharing his opinion on his social media website Truth Social, the former president, 75, said, "Ivanka Trump was not involved in looking at, or studying, Election results." "She had long since checked out and was, in my opinion, only trying to be respectful to Bill Barr and his position as Attorney General (he sucked!)," he wrote.
How can his fan base not see that he will turn even on his own flesh and blood, his favorite family member, if they are not loyal to him? What a deranged person to have in office.
I think someone here might have mentioned it will be a frosty Thanksgiving this year at their house. Except I don’t think the Trumps ever had a Norman Rockwell type of family gathering for the day anyway.
-
I think the Trump Thanksgiving was usually celebrated in the dining room (with audience of sycophants) of Mar-A-Lago rather than in private quarters. Not your normal folksy tradition. Not sure how much contact DD has had with deranged dad since they moved to FL. Talk about choking down dinner in that presence.
Loved the meme even if not what it represented. If he continues to spew his rhetoric about the hearings, he will supply the rope for his own hanging. Colbert's monologue showed footing of some of his infamous utterings.

Well Divine and Betrayal. I'm not surprised if the Trumps don't do Normal Rockwell at Thanksgiving. Trump thanks no one, at any time. Thankful people have a sense of humbleness, and feel enough humility all the time to be able to give sincere thanks for the bounties of life. Trump thnks he is the bounty. No one is as good as worshiping Trump as he is towards himself. Thanksgiving is too much about others and not enough about Trump. So, zero interest to him for any celebration where someone or something else is celebrated.
I hope soon he will have less and less to celebrate -- as these hearings go on. I hope we are told later why the hearing for tomorrow was put off till Thursday. Probably will turn out to not be a big deal at all -- or a stunning bombshell. I will await the outcome. It seems that a good deal of them are hitting home in large part. They are fairly revealing although a lot of the time I feel fairly famaliar with the information presented. I do think plenty of people are shocked now. I have to remember that time as something that I knew and felt all along -- so some relations are not new to me, but sound more like confirmations. Some people though were likely less into pollitics and moved on waiting for developments -- I think many of them in the middle -- willing to believe, but realizing that more information was needed. Those are the ones getting the surprise now.
I think the Reps. are feeling a GREAT pinch and know that McCarthy really messed it up for them and they will be stuck with that gigantic mistake --likely never erase that stain. Then again, their could have been confusion, but hard to shild and hide the truth. It tends to stand alone where lies needing constant fuel don't survive.

This is a quote from Zoe Lofgren, who is my congresswoman:
"It's just technical issues. The staff putting together all the videos, you know, doing 1, 2, 3 — it was overwhelming. So we're trying to give them a little room to get their work done," Lofgren said on Capitol Hill.
No bombshell I’m afraid

Makes perfect sense, something MAGATS have no comprehension of!

Good news in the studio! It turns out my accesses being revoked was "all a big mistake". The franchiser wanted the Lead Therapists to only have access to their individual studios. When they were "fixing" this, they "accidentally" removed our access to all the studios instead of just the ones we didn't directly manage. They promised to restore our Unit Manager access as soon as possible. We absolutely weren't demoted or anything like that.
It's most likely bs backpeddling, and I added it all to my documentation timeline, but as long as we have the tools we need to do our jobs, we're ok with it. Now we're in a kind of detante until the DoLE investigations kick in. As long as they stop telling us not to talk about it with any other employees, we're good.
And you'd better believe we're planning on talking about it with other employees.

Thanks great news miriandra!

I have to PVR the hearings It is just a little too early in the a.m. here for me. These days (PVR'd) I have been watching "Watergate:Blueprint for a Scandal" "Gaslit" (Watergate) and the Jan 6 hearings. I think my head might explode.
I just have a sinking feeling that the DOJ will do squat. There will be "insufficient" evidence to proceed beyond fact finding. I do not understand the fear of indicting a former president. If a crime was committed then indict. Really -- if Trump had shot someone dead on 5th Avenue they would not indict? What level of crime has to rise to the threshold of being indictable?
I would like to be fly on the wall at Mara-Lago. Trump must be having amazing tantrums.
-
DoJ is likely in fear of setting a precedence, lest one of their own be found guilty of something actually illegal (rather than merely having consensual sex with someone other than one's spouse). If they actually prosecuted all the illegal activity on the Hill, half of the Congressional members would have to vote from prison. At the very least, they'd vote themselves another raise to cover all the infraction fines.
-
LOL, cardplayer!
-
Or amazing terror seizures elderberry. I too am fearful that some "decent" justice prevails and I of course, feel the Loon should be the first on this. He is the one who demanded the kind of loyalty that would help his aides, confidaants and sycophants destroy their own conscience and sense of duty to their oath, country and rule of law -- knowing a few didn't have much or any of those any more than the Loon had.
It does seem to me, that 2020 was indeed about so much more than Watergate with far. far fewer participants, and what was a miniscule break-in to an extent. That though was back when the Republicans cared about the rule of law and abiding by the Constitution. I fear that so MANY were and remain a part of this ON-GOING scheme and that it will present so many difficulties trying to prosecute them all.
Personally, I wish if they could find an air-right case afanist one higher up entity that they culd NAB them all -- but that is too easy. This is not Watergate and far from a normal or expected crime spree. Who would have thought. I actually thought for a while the Loon's narcisisism would prevent him from going nearly as far as he took things.
He is so mentally gone I do think a part of him is totally convinced ( how else could he console or face hiself ) that the Democrats did find a way to take his win. I though am convinced and the 1/6 comission feels they have the evidence, that the Loon needs to be prosecuted for this. I can think of little else that would convince not only he, his family, but those who helped him that people do not want a government that cheats their way to the top.
ETA: Mirianda, I was typing this as you put your piece in -- I don't care -- I wish we could sent them all too jail. I do know it is likely a few Democrats might have to go too.
-
I survived my 12 1/2 hours of working the polls. It was actually very interesting and civil. There were no big contested races or hot button measures, so the crowd was steady but not overwhelming. I was impressed by the amount of planning and safety measures that take place (in North Dakota anyway). I don't know that anyone who actually works at an election would ever be able to think that it was corrupt, or be corrupted.
Interestingly, in talking with some of the Republican workers (both parties have an equal number, everything done is observed by, and signed off by a member of both parties), the big problem for the more mainstream Republicans is a nasty wildly right-wing group who is trying to wrest power from the more moderate wing. They are more worried about them an they are of any Democrat.
-
Ruth, I had similar experiences working the polls in elections past. Here, too in Ohio many safety measures are in place. Our county Board of Elections is amazing, they know all the answers and are always a phone call away to help with any issue, no matter how big or small; quite dedicated.
Moderate Republicans should oust asshats like McConnell, Graham and Cruz if they're so worried about the wild right, and mount a massive campaign to boycott Fox tv but I don't see them doing it.
-
Glad all went well working at the polls Ruth. Interesting that main stream republicans are worried about the right wing crazies.

Well, obviously cardplayer -- you are unaware of the possible effects of diet pepsi. I will forever be amazed at the Reps. They are so transparent, but you might not know it when they start spewing things like Guiliani trying to defend his drinking habits. The average person ( I consider myself one of those -- you know, part of the NORMAL group ) would likely easily accept that anyone who was a drinker of any amt. might easily choose to imbibe on an election day/night. That to me would be quite normal -- in fact to do so during evening hours even more understandable. So Rudy claiming Diet Pepsi -- so ludicrous it is laughable.
Reps. have done this about many things. To me, most of them no longer make much sense at all and it just mystifyies me that they seem to think they will get away with convincing people they are upright, stalwart Constitutional defenders and nothing else. Patriots of the highest order. I think they are deeply concerned about 1/6 and the information that is turning up. I read on the way here ( so far and I'm keeping fingers crossed ) there have been plenty of people tuning into those hearings and Fox is getting trounced. The evidence of wrong-doing on the Loon's part and those of very high up people around him is something that is and has a trail in recordings of video evidence and email evidences -- so they all should be extremely nervous. If it is this bad now when we have barely gotten a good start into the hearings and you can finish that sentence.
I'm hoping this is and will be what I was hoping for -- a bridge for those who couldn't or didn't keep up like those of us who follow closely as much of the workings of our government as we can, always.
