Feedback on New Format

We truly know how frustrating this is! The tech team is receiving all the feedback. Doing our best to relay all the issues.

SarahMaude thank you for your eloquence. I, too, am sorry for the loss of experienced support when you need it. This was also a significant concern for me. I hope you will continue to check in as the site gets corrected.

I tried to comment on the official tech glitches thread but kept getting error messages and was unable to see any posts on that thread. Again, I am no tech expert but I am surprised that with so many glaring glitches, that this was even rolled out! It’s been a week but here are a few very basic issues. I view bco in an iPad.
- loading pages is still slower than molasses in January.
- The Log In button has been moved up on the menus page so it is now visible but when I click on it I still get a blank screen. Oddly, after I do this and return to a thread I am usually logged in! How? 🤷🏻♀️ No idea
- Many threads, random with no discernible pattern, are not available or say they have experienced an error from which it can’t recover.
- Search, agh! I used search to find comments/topics that I was interested in, not articles. I think that’s how many of us used the search function. We want to search the forum message boards not articles on bco.
- The stark white background and thin small black font remain despite almost universal complaints. It is cold, uninviting, and difficult to read as well as looking very amateurish.
Improvements:
I no longer seem to be getting access denied.
This is not causing me stress but simply bafflement. How does this happen? How did no one see the problems before it was rolled out? I hope bco gets a big refund from whoever they hired to design and implement this very questionable upgrade. -
Dear Members,
This is what we posted on the Glitches thread a few hours ago and we too are currently unable to access that topic.
We know many people are still experiencing login issues around access, slow load times, readability and profile glitches. Without a doubt this is frustrating. We are truly sorry for the stress this is causing you. Please know we have heard you and are working hard to get everything up and running the way it should. We will continue to update you regularly with the latest information. You can always contact webmaster@breastcancer.org or Private Message our moderators if you experience new issues that you haven't seen already reported. Many thanks for your ongoing help. The Mods

The developers should have done what is called a "SandBox" launch to test the site out behind the scenes before posting it.
And whatever site is hosting this clearly does not have the speed to handle it.
Would it be possible to revert back to the old format, then find a NEW web developer to do this project?
-
If anyone has the energy and can admin a proboard forum it might be an althernative for now (or forever). I am not up to the task cognitively but have been a member on a couple of proboards and they were great. Many threads can be created or just a couple to hold you over.
-
Just my opinion: Way too white. Hurts my eyes. Font is too dull. Your old site was very easy on the eyes. Maybe you can copy the color scheme. Not going to comment on how slow it is because, well, everyone knows how slow it is.
-
👎 Very very very slow , to sterile ( I have had enough sterile) white. Not use friendly. If I had not been using this site for the last 5 years, I am not sure if I would use this site. Love the old format!
-
Is there any way we could have user controlled options for how we view the site, like Dark Mode and font changes (size, boldness etc)? we could set them up in our own profiles. Other sites have such things. Thank you
-
I really prefer not having the white background and since glaucoma The darker background was easier on the eyes and I imagine even those without vision issues may feel similar as well. A tint to the background would help.

I have gone on this site about every 72 hours just to see if anything is better or improved. Nada. FYI: I timed it for this forum. Took 29 seconds just to try to click this open. I have both Windows and MAC computers and I am very computer literate. I am just about done with this site. How sad. Again, I ask: why oh why when something was working so well on the former site and layout was there a need to change something that the community was happy with? This is not a fresh , new look. It is not functional.
-
I spent 35 years in IT design, development and deployment. You will likely lose a lot of members .With todays technology there is no reason for this site to be so slow . The application is so slow it actually will time out . I suspect whoever designed and deployed the new application did not perform ANY performance or load testing. I fail to see how the application passed any system testing requirements. I realize my feedback is negative , however it really is sub par application.

still long time to load. Also can’t see on my tablet who originated the thread. Too much white on background.
Start over again. This is a mess. A hot mess.
-
We know.
We are actively addressing issues, however we wanted you to be able to use the discussion forums while we work to make it better for you. -
It is absolutely GREAT that we can access the site again! Thank you!
-
I still can't get my name to save capitalized.
Plus, the complaints about poor formatting (see OP) still stand.
-
Very slow every time you click on a link.

In addition to the excellent post by Miriandra showing the extremely poor layout of the forum, it would be helpful if the Announcements were all removed from All Topics and placed in a section specifically for announcements. (Including all the Zoom meeting notices.) A new member trying to get to the discussion forum will undoubtedly be put off by having to scroll for pages to actually get to the topic listing. (I'm not a new member and it annoys the hell out of me.) Also, the topic listing is spread out in a ridiculous manner. It would be much more intuitive and user-friendly to have the topics listed in the old standard forum layout.
Still waiting on a decent readable font and background color. Thanks.
-
And please get rid of those creepy slithery boob logos!
-
I,m really struggling to figure this out. That’s one reason I haven’t been on here. Can’t find search. I wanted to search forum for ogliometastic or MBC only in one place, the liver. Thanks. Be

Hi OhioNana! In the toolbar at the top, there is a magnifying glass icon, followed by the language selector, then your avatar and the Donate button. If you click on the magnifying glass, you'll find the Search screen. You can also click here: https://community.breastcancer.org/posts/search

Not happy about the new layout. There is a chronic "overlaying" of the image "name" on top of the image that members are using for their avatars and this happens in random places; I don't like the TNR font since Calibri or another sans serif font has been shown in design to be easier to read on screen; the white and black background is pretty awful, and it takes forever to load discussion threads and find them. New website not an improvement for this user. I have a brand new Macbook pro, so it isn't any old technology on my end.

I agree with claireinaz! I don't like the new format either. As stated by others, too much white. Also, active topic seems endless. Of course, my biggest disappointment is that so many of the people I knew are infrequent posters or have left the boards altogether. In particular, I miss beesie!
I posted a couple of things on here, of course no responses to my posts. Was it the normal weekend "drop off" of activity, or drop off of participants altogether?
I don't know if I want to reach out here anymore. The set up doesn't feel familiar and so many seem to be MIA. (BTW, when I saw claireinaz's post, it did make me smile as I always found her posts to be worth reading!)
