I just don't have words about this. We are rolling back the clock, which will have devastating consequences for women.

Nothing will be sacred after this. Talk about going back in time. I think Barbara McQuade talked about Chicago which at the height of time right before Roe v Wade went into effect, there were 4,000 admissions a week in the Chicago hospitals for botched abortions. What an extrapolation across the U.S.

Between this and the televised hearings of 1/6 -- if people aren't fired up to go vote there is nothing on earth that will move people I do note that the heavy Fox viewer types won't watch anything that might cut into their big alternative bubble -- but one can hope that a bit will get through to at least a few of the more moderately deranged ones. I never quit hoping for better because it is the only thing that helps me hold onto my sanity. Even when you know this is likely coming it is still an indescribable blow to freedom. Obviously men still don't want women for sure to have any. How about just giving men vasectomies. Women are still charged with the full burden in every way.

Once again. Relieved to be on this side of the Border. Women in America, my heart is broken for you. Time to march to the Supreme Court and throw coat hangers and blood soaked towels on the steps. You can buy fake blood at special effects places so you can't be charged with using a bio hazard I can only hope that this will be a major wake up call to voters during the midterms. What's next in the cross hairs? Contraception? Gay marriage? The list could be quite long.

"First they came for ....." ".....who will be left to speak for me..."

It is a sad and terrifying time.

For decades, the extreme anti-abortion people have been one issue voters. Even if they disliked everything else about a candidate, they held their nose and voted for him/her if they uttered the magic words "pro-life". The other 69% of the country, who does not want Roe overturned when on their merry way, oblivious to the fact that what you take for granted as a right, can be pulled out from under you if you are not vigilant. If this does not inspire that 69% to vote for pro-choice issues and candidates, then I guess we as a country will get what we deserve.

Not to spout clichés, but elections have consequences. This was evident in 2014 midterms. Had the Dems been able to hold onto the senate, Merrick Garland may have been sitting on the court. Of course, we could go back to hanging chads and Gore v Bush. Oh, what could have been.

I am reading a book about Abraham Lincoln. He started his career in the Whig party. For many years they had backed the losing candidate in the presidential elections. In the 1848 election, as a US Congressman, he advised his fellow Whigs that, "the Whig party had fought long enough for principle, and should change its motto to success". Perhaps good advice for Democrats today. If you don't get elected, you can't govern and protect the principles for which you stand

You ladies are spot on. We do have consequences in elections and the only reason we don't have the orange thing ruling us now is that sooo many went to vote. We do need that and more now. The Reps. have no shame what-so-ever and haven't for a long time. They don't back off and will fight as dirty as NEEDED -- no holds barred.

I do believe in rule decorum, but I also believe sometimes you actually have to fight fire, WITH more fire. We sit back and let them get anyway with anything. Not only should we do all possible to keep those seated in their seats but to oust as many Reps. as possible and take their seats and keep going until we are rid of this whole group of law-breaking Reps. who would not bat ( and don't ) an eyelash over what they do to us so they can get where they want to go. I'd like to think we can get many Reps. through criminal proceedings for 1/6 but I realize that it may be hard to do.

I'm wondering now -- could we ever get back to a true democracy where the BEST man does and can win and that there will be a peaceful transfer of power and that we could have a Supreme Court that works as should. It is a s**t show right now and no one benefits from that.

Ruth, you are so right and so was Lincoln. It is time for us to get off our morals long enough to see that justice, might, and right still exist when the dust settles from all of this. Tall order -- but the Democrats have had to pick up Reps. pieces for a long time. Time to do a super bang-up job of it this time. Clean fighting be damned. I hope we figure out to do what has to be done and then do it -- no matter what we have to do. Gloves totally off I hope.

Not the cleanest thing, but how I'm feeling right now.

May be an image of text that says 'Middle Age Riot @middleageriot Men who want to take away women's reproductive rights, but still want to have sex, should go fuck themselves.'

I hope Omar's right, Illinoislady. I so deeply hope he's right.

But unfortunately, there are the "quiverfull" idiots who see rape as a blessing of bringing a child on a woman who wouldn't have had one then otherwise. They see motherhood as a much higher calling for women than curing cancer, leading nations, or anything else a woman should be able to pursue. And if an unwanted baby curbs a successful career - that's a double win in their eyes.

    Catholic Nun's Quote on Abortion

A Catholic Nun Perfectly Explains the Major Hypocrisy of the "Pro-Life" Argument

    May 17, 2019by ELEANOR SHEEHANFirst Published: February 1, 2017

    image

A Catholic nun's explanation of the term "pro-life" from 2004 is resurfacing — and it's powerful. On PBS's Now With Bill Moyers, Sister Joan Chittister explained why being against abortion doesn't mean you're pro-life.

    Here's the full quote:

"I do not believe that just because you're opposed to abortion that that makes you pro-life. In fact, I think in many cases, your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, not a child educated, not a child housed. And why would I think that you don't? Because you don't want any tax money to go there. That's not pro-life. That's pro-birth. We need a much broader conversation on what the morality of pro-life is."

Chittister's position is not only informed by her faith, but also her academic experience: she's written over 50 books and has multiple degrees (including a doctorate).

The crux of Chittister's point is that there's a difference between advocating for birth and advocating for that child's entire life. If antiabortion proponents are truly "pro-life," then those same legislators would not argue for defunding programs like those that provide school lunches or health care. Many who oppose abortion also oppose access to contraceptives. Antiabortion congressmen have consistently also advocated for defunding Planned Parenthood, which provides women with birth control options.

Liberals have pointed to Chittister's quote as an argument for the social benefits that Republicans hope to limit without providing feasible options for women if they cannot obtain abortions.

There are some " real idiots " out there who possibly, most of them anyway, have been fortunate not to have a rape in their background. I truly can't imagine because I certainly never had the experience. I still can empathize enough not to put someone in the position of having to go through a pregnancy because I think that child should live. I am convinced that there is a 'force' or 'spirit' or 'God figure' or benevolent being' who has had ALL of what happens on this earth figured out long before and who indeed accepts that some 'births' will never take place. Since we are here to learn and grow through that learning -- it in fact, makes sense to me that things would happen that way. So, that said, I do believe that the souls who are to survive on this earth do while some just were not meant to be.

We cannot know everything and I do think in some areas we are likely better off perhaps not to know. I'm especially annoyed with men who think woman can't know things and just as annoyed with the do good Christians who live the opposite of the man from Galilee. Like Sister Chittister, if your not ready to stand by a baby from birth to death, and take care of that soul all the way through, then you have very little business dictating what a woman should do. Even more when it comes to rape and incest which is filthy, ugly, and tends to leave a lot of scars.

So yes -- I too hope Omar is really, really right. I hope the Democrats are even more energized than they were for electing Pres. Biden. I hope we turn the Reps. as well as the Supreme Court on its head completely. It is far past time we REALLY take charge and get things done. We need some real serious changes in our laws and in the government and especially the part which has gone so far on the right they are no longer recognizable.

Another thing that just makes my blood boil. Roberts looks at a leak as being such an affront to the court and those who work there every day. I say Roberts giving the Thomass'es a free ride is a big affront to the U.S. and American people at large. I'm not in the least happy with Roberts, but the last line pretty much sums it up.

The paralyzing effect of fear makes us as helpless as babies and blinds us to the truth that God didn't send us here to be powerless spectators, but to become powerful initiators. We are spiritual beings having an earthly experience, and we have the power to break the cycle of negativity that is fueling a very dangerous world. It's not only possible, it's why we are here.

Memes are great -- and true which is exactly why. Still remains to be seen how this will play out. I do expect that the court will allow the ruling to go forward period. The only reason why the Loon got to put on the last three -- so kissing the ring properly has to take place. Then again, it will in its transparency I hope focus more attention on the likes of Kavanaugh and Barrett. Gorsuch is not a prize but the last two are definitely NOT SC material and should be helped to LEAVE the Court and suitable people brought on.

That is of course, if we ever hope to have court again that is considered legitimate and working for the betterment of all. Right now -- they are a joke that obviously is not funny and is an embarrassment in our world.
