Biden gets history-making nominee Jackson on the Supreme Court

Today, the Senate narrowly confirmed Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court with a 53-to-47 vote that made history and helped President Biden make good on a major campaign pledge. Jackson, 51, will be the first Black woman to sit on the nation's highest court in its 233-year history. She will replace retiring Justice Stephen G. Breyer at the end of the court's current term. Three Republicans joined all 50 members of the Democratic caucus in supporting her nomination. The White House announced that Biden, Vice President Harris and Jackson would deliver remarks Friday afternoon at the White House.

The Tiffany talk made me do a little deep dive into what’s going on with her. She has no wedding date set but is engaged to Michael Boulos, a Nigerian-American billionaire heir and business executive whose family owns Boulos Enterprises and SCOA Nigeria in Nigeria. Her engagement ring cost $1.2 million. They got engaged about the same time her dad left office. Reports say she hasn’t been seen with her half siblings—the big 3–since then. Imo, they probably tolerate her when her presence is needed to paint the picture of family bliss but drop the act as soon as the cameras are gone. According to Wikipedia, Tiffany remained with Georgetown Law after graduating in 2020, and is currently a research assistant for professor Shon Hopwood.

It’s been said that since Tiffany isn’t your classic beauty, her father looks down on her. No surprise. The greater the beauty, the greater the value he places on women. To him, a woman’s worth rests only in her attractiveness. Also, I don’t think he and Marla Maples have any relationship whatosever, whereas former wife Ivana claimed what a great president he would make. And Marla raised Tiffany on the west coast, keeping her more separate from the NYC side of the fam.

It’s thought that Tiffany might have two wedding ceremonies, one in Greece and one in the U.S. This would probably solve the matter of having both parents at her wedding; maybe Marla would go to Greece while Tiffany’s dad’s side of the family would attend the U.S. one. Who knows.

I’m sure she was given direct orders to speak at the RNC in 2020. I read a report that attending Georgetown exposed her to a fair amount of liberal influence and she may not lean so strongly in the rest of the fam’s political direction. But, imo, she keeps her peace since she doesn’t want to jeopardize her inheritance.

The above are three of my favorite people and it was a thrill to see them all together at once. I've always wondered ( because he is a really cool character ) just what former Pres. Obama thought as he worked towards handing over the reins of the presidency to Trump. Of course, he had no choice and did everything very warmly and graciously along with our former first lady, Michele.

It is still so hard to believe we had the heathen spawn for four torturous yrs. and that some Reps. would have been thrilled to have had him again. Well, it might have been the one time I might have wanted Jim Jones Kool-Aid recipe.

Anyway, the above represents to me the cream of the crop.

For nearly a full minute, Democratic senators and people sitting in the Senate balcony stood up and cheered for Ketanji Brown Jackson's historic confirmation to the Supreme Court on Thursday.

But as the camera panned around the room, there was a lone Republican senator standing there clapping, too: Mitt Romney of Utah.

Romney was one of three GOP senators who had voted moments earlier to confirm Jackson, along with Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Susan Collins (Maine). He appeared to be the only Republican, though, who made a point to stay behind and celebrate Jackson's confirmation.

Romney's support for Jackson was a surprise. In June, unlike Murkowski and Collins, he voted against confirming her to her seat on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

The Utah senator told reporters Tuesday that he decided to vote for Jackson this time because the more he got to know about her, the more he came to believe she would be a solid, fair-minded justice.

"In her previous confirmation vote, I had concerns about whether or not she was in the mainstream," Romney said. "And having spent time with her personally and reviewing her testimony before Congress, [I] became convinced that she is in the mainstream."

Come June when she will be sworn in. Glad you put in that piece Ruth. I was hearing something on t.v. and just so happened there was a lot of noise going on in the house and I knew it was something about Romney, but didn't know what. I'm glad he is using the spine the Good Lord gave him and I won't question it now -- and just be glad for it.

While they may not have voted for her, I do think there were other Reps. who KNEW she was highly qualified and they didn't clap either. Until we are totally rid of the Loon some things are still not vocalized or done. No surprise there.

Think Repugnicans leaving en masse during confirmation hearing was a disgrace and smacks of not only elitism but racism. Was it because she was female or because she was black? Anyhow, shame on them since I do not remember the Democrats ever leaving a confirmation hearing en masse during hearings for Kavanagh or Coney Barrett though perhaps in retrospect they should have? Bravo to Collins, Murkowski and Romney for exercising their right to make a choice based on the individual's merits. Shame on no balls Toomey for not voting to confirm her and this is no surprise since he has been a blind party follower for most of his miserable representation of PA. He will not be missed when he retires.

Love the above memes especially the one praising Joe. In speaking to my genealogy cousin learned that she is a rabid follower of the loon and was initially distressed when she told me she felt he was "misunderstood". Then she topped it with how the news about him is "all wrong". So we have reached a truce and agreed to not discuss politics at all. She appears to be steeped in the false theories and felt what he was doing to the immigrants "was the best thing of his presidency". Bit my tongue because we are all descendants of immigrants unless we are Native Americans and we all came here to escape religious persecution, famine, war or poverty. Changed the topic of discussion and will tuck that away for now but it is so distressing to know how misguided and misinformed she is.

The House panel investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol has enough evidence to refer President Donald Trump for criminal charges, Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., said Sunday.

"It's definitely clear that what President Trump was doing. What a number of people around him were doing. That they knew it was unlawful. They did it anyway," Cheney, the vice chair and one of two Republicans on the committee, said on CNN's "State of the Union" when asked by host Jake Tapper if they had enough evidence to make a criminal referral for the former president. Cheney added that the panel has not made a decision on moving forward with the referral.

Her remarks came after the New York Times reported that the committee has concluded that they have enough evidence to make a criminal referral but its leaders were split over whether to do so.

"I think what we have seen is a massive and well organized and well-planned effort that used multiple tools to try to overturn an election," Cheney said. The committee has "got a tremendous amount of testimony and documents that I think very, very clearly demonstrate the extent of the planning and the organization and the objective."

Cheney added, "The objective was absolutely to try to stop the kind of electoral votes, to try to interfere with that official proceeding. And it's absolutely clear that they knew what they were doing was wrong."

She referred to a ruling over a civil suit involving the committee last month, in which a federal judge found that based on evidence, Trump likely "attempted to obstruct the joint session of Congress" on the day of the attack, which would be a crime.

"The illegality of the plan was obvious," U.S. District Judge David Carter wrote of Trump and lawyer John Eastman's plan to have then-Vice President Mike Pence determine the results of the 2020 election. "Every American — and certainly the president of the United States — knows that in a democracy, leaders are elected, not installed. With a plan this 'BOLD,' President Trump knowingly tried to subvert this fundamental principle."

The Jan. 6 panel made similar allegations in a court filing in the case last month, saying it had "good-faith basis for concluding that the President and members of his Campaign engaged in a criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States."

Trump has not been charged with a crime and has denied any wrongdoing
