OK, let’s try this again. The site booted me out when I tried to post. The search by member name doesn’t work. When I entered wallycat as the search name, I got 1 post and there should have been lots of results. There should also be a checkbox option to specify an exact search versus a “contains” wildcard type of search. For example, I should be able to enter “Kbl” and get only her posts. Instead the site returned all users with *kbl* in the name. I’m using Safari on my iPad
-
Thanks, Ceanna. We weren't able to replicate this - when we search wallycat, we get all 2,985 of their posts. Can you try on another device? We reported the missing search parameters, thank you!
-
mods, cyathea reported the error, not me, but (sarcasm here, sorry) we know the gray text on white background here is hard to read!!
-
Mods - I still cannot successfully edit the new private message notification to "on" in settings. I have tried over the last few weeks thinking some revision would allow it, but no go. Thank you for adding to the list to address.
-
hi. I just wrote about a problem with trying to update treatments.i have a frozen "loading " circle permanently. I am asked to choose a diagnosis on each treatment but there is nothing to choose from. Some earlier ones disappeared.
I hit submit after explaining the above w more details and it disappeared.
On a Samsung galaxy 9 using chrome

Dancemom, thanks -- that glitch is documented and they are working on a fix!
Rah -- we have also documented that glitch -- however, there IS a work around for it. While you can't toggle to select from the Private Message page currently, you can change this setting from your profile page:
Click your avatar at the top of the page, this will take you to your Profile. Scroll down the left navigation bar to the Settings tab. Once there, scroll to the bottom where it says Private Message Notifications. Select on/off and click save.
We hope this helps!

When submitting a post I'm kicked out of the website and having to log in again and the post is not posted.

Just an observation/suggestion for the All Topics section. It would be helpful if the "Announcements" were all removed and placed in a section specifically for announcements. A new member trying to get to the discussion forum will undoubtedly be put off by having to scroll for pages to actually get to the topic listing. Then, the topic listing is spread out in a ridiculous manner. It would be much more intuitive and user-friendly to have the topics listed in the old standard forum layout. I really HATE all the empty white space that serves NO PURPOSE other than to annoy the user. Who actually thinks that is a good idea, or that it looks good to have so much empty space?? Sometimes an "upgrade" is far from an improvement.
-
I will show as logged in and take the time to type up a response to a topic and when I hit submit it takes me to the login page to start over. Nope. Done. I feel like an idiot for trying this silliness for as long as I have. I am working on accepting that this is the new BCO and my participation will be very limited.
-
I sent my post about glitches and submitted it but it vanished.
I'll try again
I have suddenly been changed to TNBC! WTF!!?? I went into my profile and made sure it said HER2+. I am unsure of my ER/PR so I have never posted it. This was my fourth attempt. Log in, edit to correct it, log out. I left the BCO site entirely between edits. And what is that bracket at end?
-
the bracket at the end used to say IHC or FISH ... I think mods already know that's glitching
-
Is that what that is Moth? I have the brackets as well but don't think I ever specified how it was determined. I'm just going with patience on the diagnosis bit as there is no way for me to edit (I get a screen with blank boxes) and, unfortunately, all chemo regimens show as "Other" now. Hopefully that will be fixed soon.
-
I do want to note that those of us who are trying to use the Discussion Boards do NOT think everything is fine and dandy. We just have people that we really want to stay connected with; so are trying to hang in there hoping all the issues mentioned here can/will be resolved. I certainly hate the very small font, lag time etc. etc. as much as anyone. Very user unfriendly. I can't imagine that a newbie, who didn't already have relationships in place, would linger and deal with the frustrations.
-
Ruthbru, we know! Really we do.

On March 26 I asked about whether or not the "Active Topics" pages would continue to list only 15 active thread postings, and why the list was growing but not expiring posts after 24 hours like in the past. Mods answered and said it would stay at 15 posts per page but the list would go back to a 24 hour list. I see now in the past couple of days, the older posts are expiring after about 4-5 days, but not after 24 hours. They remain at 7 pages and just over 100 recent threads. Is this the new "normal?" Is this just to give us the illusion that there are more active posts than there actually are? Right now we are only at about 40 active threads per 24 hours, or about 1 1/3 pages in the old 30 post format, or 2 1/2 in the 15 per page format.
-
ceanna, I think this is the new normal because there are not many new posts.
-
ceanna, yes, you're correct To get more speed on this existing platform, we're even discussing going to 10 posts/page, which would again up the active pages --- all for loading speed. No deception here, just trying to increase the ease and speed in the current environment. However, yes, the active Topics should be reduced to a prescribed time period (e.g. 24hrs). We agree that this can not be the new standard.
-
Mods, I'm not sure why you'd be having problems with loading speed on the threads. You have a white page with limited text and no graphics!! What kind of servers are you using? What is the tech team telling you? These endless, unresolved problems are mind boggling!
-
Our server and platform have remained relatively untouched since the community's inception, and as such, the server and platform are experiencing sluggishness with the new changes. As we continue to resolve issues, the slow loading remains a top priority.
-
I just really do not understand why BCO would change their site to a new site that is barely functional. The old site was user-friendly, intuitive, had no lag time, easy to use and was a healthy environment for breast cancer patients and caregivers. You are now using a never-ending problematic site that is total discouragING for your users. I am out of patience. There should not be all these many continuing technical problems if the IT people are experienced and educated. It should not take this much time to get the site working as well as the old site worked. This is not worth the money you are spending to TRY to make this site workable. I am really discouraged.
-
Hmmm. It’s an interesting work around reducing the number of posts per page but unfortunately it also impacts the user experience negatively as it forces us to do a lot of extra clicking back and forth. We’re a helpful bunch on this forum and there are frequently multiple responses to questions with a lot of messages of support thrown in. I often have to scroll back to the post I am responding to making sure I am getting the question right and providing all the information the member is seeking. If you reduce the number of posts per page it creates a situation in which that is no longer possible as navigating back to the previous page will result in losing your post. It may also inadvertently result in fewer responses to posts as they quickly move to a new page (thank you chemo brain - attention span of a gnat).
In terms of how long posts stay active, I would vote for something longer than 24 hours. Perhaps 48 at a minimum? I hadn’t actually realized that it was set to 24 hours - only found out when the number of posts dropped a year or two ago. It seems short, particularly for some of the more unusual threads/situations that occasionally come up which may only have a couple of potential responders.
-
Mods - I applied the workaround to private messaging notifications and yes indeed I do now see that email notification is on when I look at the private message screen. However, on the settings page, the email notification for private message still says "off"
Just an FYI.

Dear rah2464,
Thanks for letting us know about this.

Was trying to post here an hour ago but lost the post to a "site down" error. I'll try again, but copy the post before I click "submit" so I don't have to retype in case it's down again!
Mods, not sure why it would be faster to display only 10 instead of the current 15 on the "active topics" pages--microseconds, at best! The servers could handle 30 in past so don't know why is tech team having problems now!
I could support moving to a 48 hour window for active topics listings. I try to scan list for newcomers but don't always get on these boards every day and have no way of finding newcomers if their posts drop after 24 hours. The traffic, even before this fiasco, was down. The active lists would only be about 40 active threads per day and about 60 currently in the past 48 hours. That should be doable if the tech team gets this discussion board working.
Still waiting for accountability, explanation, and apology from BCO leadership and board. Why wasn't this working before being launched on March 1, and now DAY 31!!!!!
-
Just wanted to chime in even though it won't be at all helpful or productive. I took a long and much needed break and thought I'd pop back in and see how everyone was doing. I can't even read the screen, let alone find the topics that were really important to me.
Back to my hole in the couch to continue trying to overcome all of this plus debilitating PTSD on my own. Why would you ruin something that was so good?
-
I decided to count how many steps it took after opening the site to be able to make this comment. ELEVEN. 1. Click to disable useless message overlaying home page. 2. Click menu bars to find log in. 3. Click log in. 4. Click name spot to enable autofill. 5. Click saved autofill name and password. 6. Click name spot again to activate. 7. Click enter. Back to home page, 8. click menu. 9. Click active topics. Scroll to this thread, 10. click. Wait wait wait for it to open but at least my finger can rest. FINALLY opens. Read threads, 11. click to start this reply.
MODS: HOW IS THIS IN ANY WAY "USER FRIENDLY?"
Oh, I notice some messages are in bold. How'd you do that? I only have italic and line-through listed on my tool bar as an option. I'm on the same Android phone I've been using all along, so I know it's not a user or equipment failure. Guess it's just one more new and improved FUBAR.
-
annabelle2 - What you have posted is helpful and productive. Thanks for offering your thoughts.

The fact that people are still bothering to try logging in to a website that clearly is not functioning and after a month likely never will is a testament to the loyalty the members have to each other and to the topic of breast cancer in general.
I remember how much these members helped me in the beginning and it is a shame that so few new people are able to have that experience now.
I can't imagine any other website still having anyone bothering to post after a month of this nonsense with nothing more than a "noted. yep. going to tell the tech team" for 31 days. It is shameful and heartless. Yes. We get it. You are trying. blah blah blah.
Now will try a few times to post this.
-
Dear Members,
We continue to pass along your described glitches. We truly understand that what you are experiencing is frustrating and not user friendly. We appreciate that you continue to work to stay connected to others here and are helping one another and our newer members. Please hang in there as best you can. We want this to be a much better experience for everyone. That is our goal and we are committed to making it happen.

Well, well, look what ad just showed up on my Facebook feed. Interesting to see where BCO is putting its tech efforts. I don't see a disclaimer that the site might not be working.
