Thanks Mods. On a positive note, you may have found a willing audience for future testing! 😁.

Yes, yes sadiesservant! Thank you for this!

Mods,
So no thoughts on lost posts? I'm not the only one with lost posts. I'd like to point out that it was a post from the discussion forum that brought me here in 2015, not any of your articles.
I completely believe you that taking down the site was a sudden decision. Keeping it down without any email blast for 4 days was not.
The community experience was great until March 1. I know you as moderators have no control over design, but you control your messaging.
-
Well, I was pleasantly surprised to see I was still logged on from earlier today, and I didn't have to go through several moves to get to the active topics. Getting to a thread is still slow, but not quite as bad as it's been. But that could be due to less traffic from the people who have given up no longer being on board. Time will tell.
-
serenitystat, we did delete some larger, inactive topics, as the load here is heavy with around 20 years of data. We think that this is likely why and where you lost posts!
-
I’ve only been active for 6 years with most of the posts lost in the Thin Slices of Joy topic. Certainly not an inactive topic, but admittedly those posts aren’t interesting to most people.
I suspect the loss came from a data type error on migration.
I will stop giving you grief about the lost data. Mainly because I’m afraid of what will happen if your tech team tries to fix it.
-
Someof the best information I found on this site was from old posts. And I usually found it on a bing search not bco search as the bco search tool was terrible and not as good as bing. I think it is a mistake to delete historical forums.
-
Isn't there a way to archive old posts so they're not lost and could still be searched by users? Have them in a "read-only" area?
-
alicebastable, I had the same idea. If BCO ports to another platform or needs to clean up topics for space, could we archive the old posts somewhere & have them read only (with a good search engine attached)?
-
Just so you know, we only deleted some old political threads, nothing related to breast cancer. Moth, we agree about archiving threads. When we move to a new platform, we will of course migrate all the topics and posts. There is discussion about archiving topics that are, for instance, inactive for over 10 years. Or deleting topics that had only a few posts, and have been inactive for a longer period of time (e.g. 5 years).
-
Archiving would make a lot of sense. It seems a bit disrespectful to delete posts of those who have gone before but in my time as a member I have seen several instances where someone dredges up an ancient thread, sometimes posing the question to the original poster. It creates an awkward and sometimes distressing situation. It would be great to keep that information but lock it, pointing to new threads.
I know there are still lots of bugs but I have to say, the speed is much improved!
-
Moderators, you say you "only" deleted old political threads. Since I don't post there, where did about 800 of my old posts go? Are they lost or deleted? Wow!!! to delete any posts without checking with the original poster or announcing you're going to do this just demonstrates again how little BCO seems to respect its members!!! Please, be accountable, responsible, and respectful.
-
Ceanna, that's horrible! I'm curious how they'll backtrack that "only some old political posts" now.
Ugh, I had to sign on AGAIN. So not having to, earlier in the day, was a fluke. 🙄
-
Ceanna, Thank you for reporting the decrease in number of posts. If you did not post on the 3 non-medical threads that were weighing down our system, then it may just be a glitch you're experiencing and we will report it to the tech team to look into.
-
alicebastable, we should expect to have periodic requests to log in until things are stabilized. You may already know this, but for others who may not….The reason for this is that sometimes when software developers push an update to their server, the update won’t get fully implemented due to caching on the user’s browser (client side code) and other technical reasons. I have often asked our clients to use Ctrl + F5 on their keyboard to force a refresh of the website code. Some people don’t like to use the “Remember Me” option for security reasons, so frequent log-ins become annoying. (I get the upset.) But I think of the log-in request in this case to be a sign that something is being done to try to fix this mess.
-
Noticing that the "Active Topics" list keeps growing. It used to display only the past 24 hours, and now it looks longer because it's displaying everything since the threads went back online this week. Are 15 posts per page going to become the norm, and will it continue to display longer lists of current active posts?
-
Ceanna, the posts per page should stay at 15, the timeframe of 24 hours should return once the fixes are in place.
-
One issue I continue having is not being able to open My Topics. It defaults to application error/site down/content not available.
*** Edited to correct that I’m not able to open My Favorites.

Dear divinemrsm,
Thank you for reporting this. We are passing it along. We assume you are using your iPad as reported previously.

Just reiterating what a disappointment this has all been. I had thought that BCO was a much more sophisticated organization, than they have turned out to be. I had yet to donate, but I was considering doing so more and more strongly over the last couple of years, as this discussion forum had been so hugely helpful during the worst times of having cancer so far. There are other organizations that I do donate to, because they were helpful during the worst parts of my treatment, including a local radio station. After this tech fiasco, however, I cannot see at this point that I could ever donate to BCO. What gets done with the money they receive appears to be highly questionable.
Additionally, I will be more cautious about what information I post about myself in the future, if this mess ever gets fixed. I had been hesitant to post my stats for a variety of reasons, so never have, but now I know I will definitely never post my stats nor will I ever upload any medical information. The safety and security of this site is highly questionable and I see no reason to believe that BCO has a reliable technology/security team or system working for them. If things ever get to where they work smoothly again, I will appreciate participating on the discussion boards again, but that will be about all.
The parts of this system that are supposedly working now are still nothing but black and white with a splash of red here and there. I have started noticing that all sorts of websites are now using this black/white/dash of red format, so it looks like the latest trendy generic thing. It makes it difficult to believe that the new format was tailored to people specifically dealing with breast cancer and treatment side effects. This is nothing but a one size fits all design. I have also yet to see where anything about this site (current being fixed discussion board excluded) that is new or improved or more informative, etc. than the old one. The discussion board is the heart and soul of this site and things like articles are not all that worthwhile or relevant on here. I continue to see and wonder why there seems to be such a disconnect between the BCO board and the members.
And please, please, please get rid of those creepy logos!
-
My post count has also gone down & I didn't post in those large threads so there must be a different glitch.
It's pretty stable for me now on Windows 11 chrome. On mobile, android & ipad it is slow & hard to get back to previous/next pages in topics as they just won't load.
Hoping you'll get around to fixing the diagnosis & treatments sections soon!
-
Yes, Mods, I’m pretty much always accessing the forum on my iPad Air.
-
My signature is all messed up, and I would have to spend much time in my patient portal finding all the data. I tried to edit it this morning, The biggest thing in my mind was that the invader was HER2 +. I tried to edit it, but it did not change. I don't have enough time to waste on making the changes.
-
My dx is very public IRL, so it doesn't bother me to have it listed here and itcan be helpful to others. As far as letting anyone on bco access my medical records goes, I can't even imagine why anyone thought that might be a good idea.
-
Mods--- I cannot update my Profile. It was correct before the site change. Now, I try to discontinue the old treatment and add the new and it won't let me. Under adding new treatment, it asks me to select a diagnosis, but there is none to select from. I cannot go forward from there. I am stuck in that area of the questionairre. I tried to email you with my concerns and have not heard a reply.
-
I haven't even tried to update my profile. I just get a blank screen when I go into treatments. I agree that it's very useful information and have no concerns with folks seeing my longggg treatment history. I just feel a bit guilty at how much space I take up in the page!

We haver reported this glitch.

I think some of the posts were lost or deleted on theFeedback on the New Format thread. I’m not sure if that was accidental or intentional.
On the old site, I could see a list of all my posts in the account area. Either I can’t find that option or it no longer exists. The My Account page is still blank for me except for some gray rectangles.
-
What a shame to all of us that have lost a real source of comfort .
-
Hi Cyathea, we didn't intentionally delete any posts or threads other than the old non-medical threads we mentioned a page back. This is a glitch that Ceanna flagged for us, and it has been reported, we will continue to update as glitches and issues are resolved.
