Lump in breast after mastectomy
hi, so I found a lump last year August after a mastectomy in April, they ordered ultrasound, scar tissue/fat necrosis was they told me.
i found another little one in the same breast this week. oncologist sent me for a fine needle biopsy with breast specialist. breast specialist is convinced the original one from last year's finding is fat necrosis and quite sure the new one is too from what she sees of what came out of the lumps.
So now it is the waiting game to hear. i have a history of nothing being found on scans. My US mammogram, FNA and MRI missed my cancer which ended up being stage 3 in both breasts. only the core needle could confirm it.
i realise now i felt quite a sharp shooting pain for about a day where i felt the new lump. i think this was about 3 weeks ago. also not too sure, because after a mastectomy you tend to get aches and pains.
so i am wanting to hear if anyone had a malignant lump in their breast after a mastectomy?

I'm going through this right now myself. My reconstruction was in June 2020, and just about three months ago, I found a near lump near the incision on the non-cancer side (I got a double mastectomy even though the cancer was only on the left side). They think it's probably a granuloma or fat necrosis, but they did a biopsy and will be doing an MRI anyway. I should get the results of the biopsy early next week. I didn't have any pain, just felt a weird lump on my implant that my skin moved over.
Let us know what happens with your tests. Hopefully it's nothing.

hi Annake
Yes this happened to me too. I had skin saving mastectomy in 2015 with a lat dorsi reconstruction following a diagnosis of widespread DCIS. 4years later I found a lump in the saved skin which turned out to be IDC. Fortunately we got it early so treatment was surgery and Tamoxifen. My doc said it is quite a rarerecurrence type and was genuinely surprised

specialist phoned and it is def fat necrosis...both the lumps
now just to get my CT scan done, haven't had one since original diagnosis which was last year April.
when this comes back clean I need to push myself to MOVE ON with life
thanks for all the responses

That’s such wonderful news. A very good start for moving on. Sending best wishes that CT scan is clear and you breathe out ag
