Breast MRI enhancement
Hi
2 1/2 weeks ago, I had a breast MRI for swelling in my armpit. That ended up being fine. But they found a linear non mass enhancement in my right breast. I've had mammogram & ultrasound but nothing showed up. I've read that it can be dcis and also that it can be benign. There isn't a huge amount of info out there.
My MRI report is: There is no evidence for mass.
In the slightly lateral right breast at mid depth, 8:00 axis 5.4 cm deep to the nipple, is a 1.9 cm span of linear nonmass enhancement. No evidence of branching. Internal enhancement kinetics are persistent type. Review of the patient's previous mammogram shows no calcifications or other focal abnormality in this region.
OVERALL ASSESSMENT: BI-RADS 4 - Suspicious
OVERALL RECOMMENDATION: Biopsy
I have my biopsy next Tuesday. Is a fairly common finding on MRIs ?

Hi, persistent kinetic is intermediate risk.Take care!

Sparkleblue22, sorry you have to be here and worried about your breast, but glad you found us!
If it helps ease your mind, BIRADS 4 usually comes back benign after a biopsy. As you can read in our main site, "In the United States, only about 20% of women who have biopsies turn out to have cancer."
We're thinking of you and wishing you the best of luck! Please, come back to let us know how it goes!

Thank you both! I'm glad I found this group too. The unknown is worse then knowing I think.
My biopsy is set for Tuesday and I'll let you know what the results are.

hi, my ultrasound, mammogram and MRI could not pick up my 6cm tumors in both breasts.
after the ultrasound and mammogram breast specialist did a fine needle biopsy which came back as abnormal but not malignant.
she decided to send me for a MRI, no masses found, but enhancement. it frustrated me so as I could see and feel the huge lumps in my breast but screening could not. radiology sent report saying that it could be precancercous cells in both breast or an autoimmune.
She did a core needle biopsy this time and then it was full on cancer in both. IDC, grade 2, she thought stage2. but after operation with all the lymphnodes involved it ended up being stage 3.
I don't want to scare you, but I just thought I would share my story as this is possible. it took months to get my diagnosis especially with covid messing all appointments up.
I hope yours is a benign diagnosis though.

Thank you for sharing your story! I appreciate it. I am sorry it took so long to get diagnosed. I would be frustrated too. Dumb covid. Its so hard to wait for tests and results. I hate it.
My biopsy is tomorrow. I'm glad it's finally here but yet I wish I didn't have to do it. So today is upbeat fun songs.
I'll post when I get results.

Good luck with the biopsy!

I just got my results back. but have to talk to the dr to clarify.. It sounds like it's negative but they have to double check where they did it... I don't know.
This could represent fibrocystic changes, but radiological
correlation is recommended to ensure that the target lesion was
adequately sampled.
Microscopic Description:
Microscopic examination reveals cores of breast tissue with stromal
fibrosis. There is no atypia or in situ or invasive malignancy.
Papilloma or fibroadenoma are not definitely seen. Green ink is
confirmed. -
Sparkle - sounds like B-9. Not even DCIS. Congrats.
-
thank you!
This is what my doctor emailed me.
The enhancement seen on the MRI is very nonspecific, there was no associated mass, it may have looked less pronounced on the MRI for the biopsy compared to the first MRI.
She recommended we get another breast MRI in 6 months to ensure its not changing.
It's a good result but vague in a sense... I don't know. I just don't feel settled or relieved or something.
