Trying hard to lose the pounds!!!!!!!!!

Hello Ladies
I hope today is a good day for everyone.
Raven - sorry your having teary days, hope you feel better soon. How wonderfully generous and kind of your husbands co-workers to take up a collection. I know what you mean about the med bills - mine are creeping up again. 7,000 last year and not sure what this year will bring. Hang in there!
I thought about going to a gym too..haven't done anything about it though.
Question for ya all----has anyone's appetite been off the wall lately?? You know how before your period you can get that "hallow leg syndrom" and eat everything in the house??? Well that is me this past week or so. I can not get satsified. I think my co-workers are afraid to leave candy out on there desks because I am constantly grazing!
I was wondering - could this be a side effect of Tomaxifen?
Well, all I have to say is at least they restocked the vending machine. Yesterday I came back with a bag of trail mix and york peppermint patties. It's 3:30 you know what that means...snack time, Help me ladies - give me strength to stop this crazy eating frenzy.
OK - I feel a bit better now that I vented. What was my mantra
chocolate bad...carrots good, chocolate bad...carrots good
Have a good one!
Diane -
Diane, I've been on Tamoxifen for just over 6 weeks now. I definitely noticed an increase in appetite and cravings--reminded me of those PMS days, thought I might even get me period back (didn't happen).
It really stinks that so much of the treatment for BC makes it that much harder to control our weight. I'm definitely getting thicker around the middle. The nutrionist from Sloan told me that gaining weight around the middle is common when chemo plunges us into menopause.
When I finish rads (hopefully on June 24th), I'm going to try to get off sugar using the South Beach diet. The more I eat sugar, the more I crave it.
We're going away the weekend after I finish rads. All my siblings and their families, my parents and my family are all going to a ranch in upstate NY for the weekend. Really hoping I finish on time so I can go away knowing I'm done.
Guess I'll wait till the Monday after that weekend to get started so I can enjoy this mini-vacation. (First time we've been away in years!)
Yes, my husband's co-workers are really special. I'm still floored by their generosity and support. It came at a time when my husband and I were feeling so down, made us feel that God is still watching out for us.
Hope you're all doing well--have a great night. -
**Raven, your husbands co-workers are so wonderful.
**Diane, you make me laugh. I think of your slogan throughout the day, but I get it mixed up all the time-chocolate good, carrots bad!!!!lol!!!
**Raven, Please check with your hospital social worker to see if there is financial help for you. It breaks my heart to hear that you have to deal with so much... it isn't right. The insurance should cover everything....
**Patty, I have many excuses for not exercising!!!
I'm still trying to diet, now on weight watchers. They had an excellent recipe for a caramel cappuccino shake. OMG, so good
1 cup fat free vanilla frozen yogurt, 1/2 cup fat free skim milk, 1/2 tsp instant expresso (I used instant cappucino) 1/4 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 cup lite cool whip, 2 Tbsp fat free caramel topping. Blend yogurt, milk, expresso, and cinnamon on high in blender. Pour into 2 glasses, top each with cool whip and caramel cappuccino. Really GOOD. 4 weight watchers points. I don't know how many calories. YUM, YUM, YUM, Rosebudd -

ADD, lol!!!! You guys crack me up. Raven, 10 more to go, GREAT!!! That's 2 weeks, right??? I am trying weight watchers on line. I don't know if it works, but like you Patty I've tried them all. The scale goes up and down, but ultimately stays the same... Rose

Hello Ladies - Happy Friday to all. OK ready for this...my boss said we can be treated for breakfast today if someone went and picked it up. I quickly volunteered. You see, I had coupons for 3 free donuts and 3 free bagels with the purchase of a dozen! So, off I went this morning to Dunkin Donuts and got a dozen mixed and asked them to put the 3 free in a separate bag(hee hee)
They are in my car. Then off to the bagel place and the same thing, they too are keeping my donuts company. (What they don't know won't hurt them) So, this weekend will be a good one treat wise. Although I think I will share them with this wonderful lady next store. She is an extemely young 70 year old women who has more energy then me and sort of adopted me as a daughter.
Hey - at least I passed up the lattes! Well gotta run a chocolate frosted is calling me..I already had my bagel.....lol
Diane -
Diane you are a riot!! Enjoy your frosty friend!! Rose if you have any more WW recipes send them on down..I think part of my problem is variety....I will be checking in later on..Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!!xoxo,Patti

Girls,
Thanks for the making me laugh. I just signed up with "EDiets" online. I wasn't losing any weight on the diet plan associated with my treadmill workout. I've been stuck for a month now - I'd lose 2 pounds, three days later gain it back, lose it - gain it!!! You'd think I'd lose more weight since I have faithfully been walking on the treadmill now for 8 weeks. I walk 4 - 5 miles a week - maybe that's not enough for my fat self!!! Anyway, I got a special offer for the EDiets ($19.95 for one year) - today was my first day of their diet. They advertise that I should lose 10 lbs by July 16th (and the exercise they have planned for me isn't nearly as intense as what I am doing) - we'll see about that!
Well, have a nice weekend.
Hugs,
Lois -
Hey Floss and Lois!! Yummy who said lobster roll??? I think I am going to follow Rose and try the WW route and if all else fails thanks for giving me 2 more diets to add to my list..It is soooooooo hard!! Especially when you love to eat!! I am with you Floss we all need a cheat and sweet here and there!! It is what keeps me smiling!!! And remember all recipes towards diet success are appreciated here!!!!! Rose I am going to try yours tomorrow...I need to buy the ingredients!!!! MMMMMMMM Good!!! Have a nice weekend my friends....xoxo,Patti

Hi everyone--this thread never fails to lift my spirits--I love you ladies!
I was reading an article while waiting for rads today (#19--9 more to go!). It was about weight problems as women age and enter menopause (which we all did at an accelerated pace!). Anyway, it says that women's bodies start to shift from a "pear" shape to and "apple" shape with the extra weight forming a spare tire around the middle. The author called it a "menopot". I went home and told my hubby--now I've got another side effect, it's called a menopot!! (he hugged me and said he loved me anyway).
The weather's going to be beautiful here on Long Island this weekend--have a church picnic tomorrow and a christening on Sunday--more temptation!
Enjoy you're weekend ladies! -
We love you too Raven!! Menopot!! I love it!! Sounds better than pot belly or jelly belly!! I am counting down with you my friend and we will be ready right here to celebrate your graduation...I will bring the champagne and double chocolate dipped strawberries!!Yes the DIET DIVA's will help you celebrate in style!! It will be a reason to cheat and be happy!!!!!Rose where are you?? what can you bring?? You always have such good ideas.. And Diane you will bring the best dessert..I just know that we can count on you my fellow conspirator !!!!!Any one else out there?? Join in... Have a wonderful weekend Raven and enjoy a few goodies at the parties this weekend...You know that we will never tell!! We love to cheat and eat here!!!! Raven maybe you can join the NY girls for our next get-together..I would love to meet you!! I can not make the Woodstock weekend but perhaps if we have a day gathering you could join us!!!!And my friend Diane I hope to meet you at the next one also!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It will be a reason to cheat and be happy!!!!!!!!!! xoxoxo,
My mantra:Cheat,Eat and be happy doing it!! -
Raven, you will be done before you know it!! I will surely come to your party, although I cannot top champagne and double chocolate dipped strawberries!!! I will bring hmmmmmm MORE CHOCOLATE!!! LOL!!! I have been on Weight Watchers 1 week tomorrow... Well a little longer, but I'll call it a week. I will see how much I lost tomorrow! Patty, I got this recipe off of a Cool Whip Lite Carton and it does the trick for my sweet tooth, but NOT as good as the Cappaccino Shake!! Here it is:
Chocolate Banana Parfait
POINTS® value | 3
Servings | 4
2 Cups 1% low-fat milk
4 serving fat-free sugar-free instant chocolate pudding and pie filling mix
2 medium banana(s)
1/2 cup Cool Whip Lite Whipped Topping
1 Tbsp chopped walnuts
Pour milk into medium bowl and add pudding mix, beat with wisk about 2 minutes. Spoon 1/2 mixture into desert cups, layer with banana slices and whipped topping then remaining pudding. Sprinkle with walnuts.
Easy and Good. Of course it would be better if we chopped up a little bit more CHOCOLATE and mixed it in with the pudding, but doesn't chocolate make everything better???? Hugs, Rosebudd. -
Ladies, I'm down 2 pounds this week!!! Lois, Let us know how your program works. Floss, 1 pound a week is cool. I'm not going to be greedy. Diane, you are too funny. Dunkin Donuts is a dangerous place. Lois, if your diet site has any good recipes please forward them. I am determined to loose weight, even though I have not been successful for the last 2 or 3 months! I'm like Patty in that variety seems to help. Weight Watchers allow you to have all sorts of food and you can "save" points for the week end which just may be the ticket for me. I was "good" all week and then on the week end (we were away) I had a kit kat bar, a donut (toasted coconut from Dunkin Donuts) and a margarita. And I still lost! Boy did I enjoy that kit kat bar!!! Hugs, Rosebudd
*********Raven, you are 2 weeks away!!!! PARTY TIME********* -
Rosebud,
Yes they do have recipes. I already planned to share some recipes as soon as I had a chance to check a few of them out for myself. I've only been on the diet a couple of days and I chose easy meals the for first week. So far I'm very pleased with the variety. I selected my 1st week and have already gone in and changed them several times based on how I felt that day and what I had to do after work (like if I had errands and didn't want to cook when I got home - I could pick "fast food").
My biggest accomplishment this weekend was my Sat. morning training walk. I hooked up a girl that lives practically around the corner from me. She's walking in the LA 3-day and me in the SF 3-day. I've been training on the treadmill, but the farthest I had walked was 1.4 miles. Sat we walked 3.4 MILES!!!! Boy, I surely didn't think I had it in me. I'm still a little sore in the legs and lower back, but I'll do my little treadmill workout tonight and try to loosen those muscles. We plan to walk again this Sat.
Will share recipes when I test drive them first.
Hugs,
Lois -
Hi!
I'm new here, but not to the breast cancer...was diagnosed in 2/98...
I most certainly can relate to the extra weight gain....I was 140 when I was diagnosed I went up to 197.5.
April of this year I started my first real attempt at losing the weight, right now I'm at 182.5.
The 3 things I did were. 1) Joined Weight Watchers (On-line) 2) Have been doing the Walk Away the Pounds program, by Leslie Sansone 3) Joined an on-line weight loss support group.
I know different things work for different people but I've found these 3 things very helpful.
Blessings to you!
Audrey L -
Lois, GOOD GOING! 3.4 miles! That's awsome. That is the best thing, when you reach a goal or exeed the goal like you did!!!
Audrey, We LOVE when long term survivors share their story, could you share yours???? I am also an online Weight Watchers member. I am trying hard. I would like to loose 10-15 pounds. Lets keep at it and we will do it!
Hi Patty and Raven, hope your both doing well!!
Diane, did you get anymore donuts??
Hugs, Rosebudd -
Hey my fellow dieting diva's I'm here..
Rose I did not realize that WW was available online.DUH!!..I am going to join right after I post this note...I was going to join on Wed..at the WW in the next town...Only thing I won't be able to have the extra days to cheat!! LOL..Only kidding.......
Lois please send on recipes after test drive.....
Welcome Audrey thanks for your input...Do you have any recipes??
Raven and Diane hope you gals had a good weekend..Diane are you having another frosty attack?????????????? xoxo,Patti -
Congrats Rosebudd on the 2 pounds! That's terrific--I like the idea of saving points for the weekend, when we all get into trouble! I think Weight Watchers is a good way to go.
Lois--3.4 miles--I'm so proud of you. It's nice you've found someone to walk with, you can motivate each other.
Welcome Audrey. Glad to hear from someone who's beating this beast and loosing weight too.
Hi Patti--had a good weekend. It's the most I've done in months so I'm pooped, and I ate far too many sweets--but it was so nice to see many friends and family that I haven't seen since this whole thing started.
#20 today--I'm getting pretty crispy--8 more to go--get ready to celebrate ladies--anything with chocolate is always good with me! I'll have to make some chocolate chip brownies for the occassion--how many points do you think they are?
Have a good night everyone. -
Hey Ladies - Hope everyone had a great weekend. I love the term diet diva's - you gals crack me up.
First a big welcome to Audrey. I too am a WW member (part-time though).
Hey Lois - 3.4 miles you go girl. There is one trail in my complex that is 3 miles - I hope to be there by the end of summer. Right now I do my 1.5 miles in the morning.
Rosebud - 2lbs - way to go! Its such a great feeling to see the scale go in that direction isnt it
Raven - your almost there - I'm getting my happy dance ready for ya! Brownies are only 2 points (the world according to Diane)
Patti - my bud - did you do WW online? I was thinking of rejoining that way - can't get my butt to the meetings. We can do it!!!! (Frosty attack you are too funny girl)
OK, ladies, just for the record...I did not have any donuts this weekend....lol. I did however meet friends for dinner and they wanted to split a desert so naturally I didn't want to seem unsociable so I just HAD to help them eat a brownie ala mode..lol. I'm smiling right now as I think back on it.
I am staying with friends over the weekend and all she keeps asking is what do I want to eat...I am getting a reputation!
Well, time to take my Xanax, Zolft, Zantac & last but not least Tomaxifen and hit the sack. Getting up at 5:30 is tough.
Stay strong ladies but be kind to yourself...allow yourself gentle rewards.
Hugs to all
Diane -
Sorry posted this in the wrong area....
Thanks for the welcome! I have my story on my website, here is the link http://aero-smith.com/bcandme.htm
I am 43, my birthday is August 13, I've been married for 16.5 years. John, my husband and I met while in High Scool. We have 4 kids, 3 girls and 1 boy....Danielle 19 (is my step-daughter, but I've been in her life since she was 19 months old - John had custody), DeAnna 15, Melissa 14, Johnny 12.
I was 37 when I was diagnosed with BC, my mother had bi-lateral and so did my half sister, on my mother's side. So I kinda wasn't suprised when I was told.
Yes WW on-line is wonderful...I'm so glad I stumbled upon it. And for those of you who have a hard time getting out to walk, or the weather isn't the greatest, I would strongly suggest the Walk Away the Pounds - video/dvds...they're great, my 15 year old daughter is even using them...everyone I've talked to who has used them love them also..
I would love to get to know you all...so please feel free to bombard me with emails...LOL
Hey how do you add the Smiley Cons...I have Smiley Central, when I tried to add it, says it can't.....
Thanks!
Hugs,
Audrey -
Hi ladies,
I haven't deserted you, really!! I just got back from visiting my folks in Florida for a week and do you think I worked out while I was there???? FAT chance, (pun intended thank you....
Now how weird is THIS? On Saturday, hubby and I are driving BACK to Florida to visit HIS folks (I flew to see mine alone). He was going to be a realtor now that he has retired from the military, then decided that working 7 days a week just for the almighty dollar was not for him. I am more than willing to travel this summer since last summer was a BC nightmare, diagnosis, surgeries, etc. etc.
Hope to hit the pool this week a bit,and then again when I get back before my July 9 ooph surgery, but I'm thinking I won't really get back into my routine till school starts again. Every little bit helps, right?
I read about you gals here really working on losing weight and then I feel guilty after I've had my daily dose of ice cream..., but not guilty enough to give it up!
Rock on girls!
Hilde -
Audrey...
I use the Smiley Central emoticons... here's how I do it.
1. Open a new mail message and the Smiley Central box. Put a smiley into the new message. RIGHT click on the smiley and go to Properties down at the bottom and click on it. Copy the link in the "Picture Source" box.
2. Go to your post, put the cursor where you want your smilie, type "" without spaces. (And don't type the quotation marks, that's the only way I can insert that here without it getting weird on me). You will see the code in your post, but if you click on the "Preview Post" button you will see your smilie! If you see a link, check your img typings, you might have made a typo.
Hilde -
Thanks.....and don't feel bad about the ice cream, every weekend I pig out on popcorn..I know it's going to take me longer to loose the weight, but I can't give it up....LOL
hugs,
Audrey -
Audrey I will have to visit your site..Thanks for sharing it with us..
And Hilde you escapee you!!Glad to see you that you made your get-a-way from school!! And that my APB worked!! I was happy to hear that hubby retired.!!He paid his dues and I thank him for that!! Now you love bugs get going and hit the trail!! Enjoy you deserve it....Wishing you luck with your ooph surgery and until then live it up big!!!!! I just jumped in your pool and did a lap!! Does that count for my daily exercise requirement??? Oh I waited an hour after eating before making my journey!! Even wore my googles..
Oh and my dear diet diva's I have a helpful tip when all else fails and you are feeling down on your dieting luck ...""Only Irish coffee provides in a single glass all four essential food groups: alcohol, caffeine, sugar, and fat."---by Alex Levine
Have a nice day ladies...Love you all!!....xoxo,Patti
I just joined weight watchers on line!! Thanks Rose..This plan seems to have a lot of wiggle room!!!!!!!!! Wish me luck!! -
Hello Ladies - I hope all are doing well. Ready for this one - today I had an appt with a dietician. She just called, I completely forgot! Either it's chemo brain or just sub conscious desire not to go. Oh well I rescheduled. I will be taking a break for a few days having company
and not sure if I will get much computer time so I wanted to wish you all a wonderful rest of week and weekend.
Hugs
Diane -
Yeah! Hilde's back!!! We missed you Hilde. Good luck with the ooph surgery. I will be having a hysterectomy once I've recovered from treatment. I hope your surgery goes well and you have a wonderful summer traveling with your husband!
Patti--I would love to go to a get-together in the future. My husband's schedule rotates, so he does work some weekends, it will all depend on when and where. Do the husbands usually come along? What about young children?
I've been trying to eat healthier this week--more fruits and veggies, less sugar. It's a start.
Diane enjoy your company and your weekend. When are you seeing the dietician?
For all of you on W.W.--how do you like it so far? If you sign up on line, can you also attend a real live meeting if you want?
Audrey--I have a friend who is using the walk away the pounds tapes and loves them. Says their fun and easy to follow. I'll have to pick it up for when it's too hot to walk outdoors.
Have a good night everyone.
