Focal Asymmetry second time
Hello. I was informed today that I have a call back for possible focal asymmetry in left breast.
I am 45 and have received yearly mammograms since age 40. In 2018 I was called back but not given specifics on why. The ultrasound revealed nothing (doctor said she could not see what they thought they saw). Follow up mammo 6 months later was normal. Normal mammo in 2019 and 2020.
I asked today if this was the same issue as 2018. They said same breast different area of the breast.
So my question is, is there any significance to this being the second time this has happened? These were 3D mammograms. Or just bad luck?
Any info or insight is appreciated. They won’t see me again for 2 weeks and the follow up is December 23 of all dates. So it’s going to be a long two weeks.

Dear asolo75, welcome to Breastcancer.org! We're sorry you didn't get any answer from other members still. Sometimes the boards are "slow" during the weekend. Hope this post helps bumping your thread so more people will see it and you have a better chance of a reply. We know the waiting it's scary, but try not to worry too much and get yourself distracted until your next appointment. And please come back to let us know how it goes!

Hello. I wanted to post the outcome here for anyone who sees my post and could use reassurance. Luckily they were able to get me in yesterday due to a cancellation.
The doctor said there was literally nothing on the sonogram. She said dense breast tissue makes it very hard to know what you are looking at, so this will probably happen again.
I asked if it is possible to just schedule the mammogram and sonogram together. She said not really because insurance won’t pay for it. I wonder if there are places that are willing to bring you from one to the other if needed. It would save days of worry… I was really beside myself for five days.
Anyway this is what happened if anyone here is wondering about repeated call backs.

asoló,
I am glad that nothing was seen. Some folks have very dense and/or busy breasts and so have to be a bit more vigilant. Yes, it’s no fun but necessary for some.
Please check with your insurer about having two types of imaging on the same day. I am not familiar with most types of health insurance but if the insurer will not give approval, then it probably wouldn’t matter where you went as insurance would be the issue, not the provider. Take care

prior to my breast cancer diagnosis, I always had a mammogram and ultrasound. But I was high risk and had busy breasts. Insurance never once denied covering both

There are “breast boutiques” now that have imaging all in one place, just for breast cancer. You would probably need a high BIRADS or symptoms to get both done on one day and to have it covered by insurance, which is what happened to me. You could always check the cost of ultrasound beforehand and maybe pay out of pocket if you need peace of mind.
I’m sorry you had to have that stress wait period, but so happy your outcome was good! I hope this adds some zest to your holidays!
