Waiting on biopsy results :-(
Hi all,
First off, I have been lurking on here for the last week ever since I had my diagnostic mammogram/ultrasound and I am so glad I've been hanging out here instead of Google.
My story: 35 y/o female. No family history. Back in late September I felt a lump in my right breast, went to PCP, who ordered a diagnostic US and mammogram. Couldn't get an appointment until beginning of December. Imaging was last week and they found about a 2 cm mass, BIRADS 5. Just had my biopsy yesterday where they took samples from the mass, another small nodule, and a lymph node in question. I suffer from pretty bad anxiety to being with, especially regarding health issues/dying.
Now we are playing the waiting game. I am just so fearful of what's going to come back. I feel like I've accepted the fact that it will be something, but I'm terrified that because it took me so long to get checked (2 months) that maybe I didn't catch it early enough and it's progressed/spread. Been trying to keep myself busy with working and other hobbies, but its hanging out in the back of my mind.
I don't know where I'm going with this haha. I really just wanted to say hi and put my concerns down somewhere. Sending love and hugs to all of you in the same boat as I am ❤

Hi Coli, I'm sorry about your lump and your fears. We all get it, so you're not alone. Please don't beat yourself up about the two months. Cancers rarely progress that quickly and there are quite a few who have long-ish periods between finding a lump, diagnosis and then treatment.
Hoping yours is benign or maybe just a "let's check it again in six months".
Let us know when you get your results. In the meantime, (((hugs)))

Coli, I’m so sorry you’re here! You did the best you could to get checked! This testing/waiting/imagining/waiting/referrals/waiting thing is the pits! It’s common to feel a sense of urgency about BC. For a little perspective, I noticed I had dimpling in my breast, which I thought was just atrophy, for over a year before I saw the lump (no self exams for me back then). I felt like you, what if all that time it was going everywhere in my body! I accepted what I knew was coming. I was lucky things worked out okay. You never know until pathology. Hopefully you’re just lumpy! If you know you have anxiety, getting a therapist or some meds can really help out right now, and if the news is not great. Don’t put your mental health second, it is just as important as your physical health!
I know how you feel and hope your weekend is full!

I agree with not blaming yourself. I found a 1.5cm lump in mid June and mid August it was the same size even though it was an aggressive grade. I hope you get good results. The anxiety is hard to deal with for sure. Come back to update if you can or just for support.

Thank you all for your kind responses! It really makes me feel a lot better knowing that regardless of the outcome I've done the right thing :-) I've been in therapy for awhile, but I finally had my PCP prescribe me some Lexapro this week which I'm hoping will take the edge off. I will make sure to keep you all posted on what happens!

Coli, big hugs, and I'm so sorry. You're in the bad, scary, anxiety filled place right now, and I promise, once you have your results and a plan in place, and have started going through it, the shock will wear off, and it will get better. Hang in there. We are here for you whenever you need to vent or commiserate, or try to get another person's experience, or just tell someone what's up.

Coli, take a breath and know you can handle what comes your way. My BS put it in perspective, this is an emotional emergency, not a medical emergency. One day at a time and remember a high percentage of biopsies come back B9. Good vibes coming your way!

hey! In the same boat as you! I am 33 and found my mass approximately 2 months ago as well and it has since grown significantly. Waiting for results is the worst. Trying not to panic is hard. I thrive on having a plan. If I have no plan then I feel like I’m floundering. So I have began to plan based on each possible situation and it feels like I am calming down. Now I know that no matter what the result we have an idea on how we will go about dealing with it (I recognize also that 90% of plans go awry and that’s okay). It makes me feel like I have a handle on everything. I hope that everything comes back benign for you!

Two months is not long in cancer time, generally speaking. Please don't beat yourself up! We're in a pandemic, lots of places are overloaded beyond the normal, which itself isn't usually great. You did everything right!
Now is a good time to focus on finding a good treatment center and figuring out how to get your scans there, as well as really prioritizing treating your health anxiety. I never had particular health anxiety but even so the beginning part was excruciating. Get a therapist, get a psychiatrist, get some meds to help you make it through the day/sleep, etc.
For me, things started to get better after my first meeting with my oncologist. Having a doctor I felt good about and the beginning of a plan made a huge difference. Even so, there was still a LOT of waiting and waiting for this result and that pathology and that oncotype, etc. Line up your psychological ducks, to the extent possible, now.
Hoping for you for an easy (relatively) diagnosis! And for strength and support throughout the process.
remember a high percentage of biopsies come back B9.
MyMomsGirl - that is really not applicable to a birads 5. Yes, sometimes a birads 5 will come back benign. But it is the exception rather than the rule and it is appropriate for someone with birads 5 to prepare themselves for a diagnosis. I had a birads 5 and I wish I had known what it meant at the time.

Well... got the results back. Positive for invasive carcinoma. Grade 2. Hopefully getting information on hormone receptors in the next couple of days and meeting with the breast surgeon soon. Thank you all for your kind words and support :-)

More hugs, Coli. I'm glad you've already got a surgical appt, and sorry that you need one We are here whenever you need.
