Problem with Mastectomy Scar Healing
Hi everyone, I had DCIS grade 3 with comedonecrosis. For a bunch of reasons I opted for a double mastectomy. It has been almost a year and the edge of the scar which is close to where the cancer cells were is not healing well. There is a red lump that looks like a cyst. MRI was clear but not sure if it would pick it up as it is practically in my armpit. Thankful for any input - I am new to the group

Have you shown this to your surgeon? He/she may need to take a tissue sample for a biopsy.

thank you both for the replies. The plastic surgeon thought it may be a cyst but no biopsy. I am a little nervous as i read sometimes cancer comes back in skin that won’t heal. I have had 3 non cancerous lumps since the mastectomy and don’t want to be constantly bugging my cancer surgeon but i am a little worried so may send him a picture.

I don't think your surgeon would be bothered at all. Your health is important and that is what your team of physicians is there to do. Please let us know how your evaluation goes.
