I had an X-ray following the port placement, which mentions cardiomegaly, enlarged heart. Now I have to go for echocardiogram and visit to a cardiaconcologist..and I was supposed to have my first chemo treatment in a week. I have no symptoms of heart issues…but wonder what is going on…anyone else have this issue?

    Santaana,

Some of the drugs used for treatment can damage the heart. They need to know your baseline heart function before they start anything. Our hearts can be damaged by lots of things - even viral infections which don't always lead to symptoms. If your ejection fraction is low, there are drugs they would want to avoid.

    Best of luck,

    Jane

Santaana - if you go to my profile, you can list your diagnosis & treatment plans to date. Adriamycin particularly can do permanent heart damage. Hercepetin if you are HER2+ can also damage the heart but that is usually reversible. Good luck.

    Hi

good to get it checked out-- I have a slightly enlarged heart-it is genetic--hypertropic cardiomyopathy--for most people, it does not cause any problems--I have no problems with it- dx in June of this year but they said it has probably been this way my whole life since it is genetic. It ws picked up through a heart murmur-- I had all the pre-chemo tests years ago and this never was detected (the enlargement is very small). Good luck-- a good echo cardiogram will tell you what you need to know.
