Breast asymmetry - anything to worry about?

Hi,

Back in July I noticed that my right breast had become bigger than the left. I kept an eye on it for 6 weeks then told my GP (family doctor?).

He examined me and agreed that the breast was enlarged. There's no noticeable lump, no pain, no changed to skin or nipple. I haven't noticed swelling under my arm and he found nothing that worried him. He decided not to refer me to a breast check centre. He told me to come back in 6 weeks if I noticed changes or was worried about it.

Four years ago I had my breasts checked and learnt that I have a fibroadenoma in my right breast. It is insignificant now and I can't actually find it anymore.

I'm very aware of extra fullness in my breast. It is significantly larger than the left now. I can't pinpoint exactly where the extra tissue is. It's like the whole breast has expanded.

I'm perimenopausal and in good health.

My GP didn't see anything that concerned him and when I read up on breast changes there's seemingly nothing about my issue that is cause for concern.

I'm not sure what to do. Get used to it and relax or push for tests and scans? I'd love some input on this situation. I find the changed size of my breast a day to day distraction.

Breasts can enlarge for completely benign reasons but you know what is normal for your body and what isn't better than your GP so I would ask again to go to the breast center if doing so will give you peace of mind.

Thanks for your reply. I'll go back to my doctor and ask for a referral to the breast centre, just to put my mind at rest.
