Leaky eyes down the face
I am on faslodex, Verzenio, and just switched from zometa to Xgeva. I can't figure out what is making this leaking watery eyes down the face. It's so bothersome. I just took a Claritin tonight for the first time, I've had this problem for three years now. I don't know why but my eyes are dry as they've ever been in the three years, I just took the Claritin three hours ago could this be really a help?

I am on different medications than you are but I’m told that endocrine therapy can cause or contribute to dry eye syndrome and when you have dry eye, you may over produce tears.

Hi Stacy! We can't really figure out if Claritin is going to help with this problem. Some pain medications also can cause eye problems. Best thing would be asking your doctor if you can get an appointment. Until then, here is some information from our main site on Vision and Eye Problems and how to manage them. We hope this helps!
Best,

If it is dry eye, there are medications and prescription eye.drops that may help. Talk to your oncologist and also, get an eye exam preferably from an ophthalmologist if possible.
Im currently not taking anything for it but my eye exam two weeks ago did reveal dry eye, doctor said not too severe.
When I've had discomfort at night I've used Systane (over the counter ointment). The water pouring down my face was at its worst during Taxol, which I'm no longer on. The tearing I have now is bearable. I take daily Claritin too and Ihave since my treatment started. But I've still had those bouts of teary eyes.

I am happy yours stopped for the most part but with COVID im afraid to go to and eye doctors office . My eyes are constantly watering down my face , I can’t drive or cook . I’m so upset . I can’t live like this, this is my worst side effects since my cancer started in 2015. I’m suffering with these dry leaky eyes for 2 years now , but now it seems much worse . Even if I went to an eye doctor a few other people that have the same problem said they put those cones in the corner of the eye and it did nothing. I hate to say that I’m a big chicken but I am and I have fears and I won’t have those cones put in the eyes. I was just hoping that maybe somebody use something or did something and got relief. I realize I’m a problem child and I sound horrible but I have fears and those fears I acquired with my breast cancer diagnosis and my double mastectomy. My stomach is tight all the time I don’t even breathe right anymore from fear and now with the isolation from the eyes leaking I have no friends stay away from family and just take care of my very sick mother. My life is just a sad case. I’m usually not this much of a downer, I usually lift people up but this Eye leaking is

I'm so sorry that you have to go through this, too.
For the past many years, I have been waking up with watery eyes, tears, runny nose, post nasal drip, congestion, feeling like my head is under water. My primary care has prescribed Fluticasone to spray twice in each nostril in the morning. It goes away after a while.
Sometimes, a heating pad on my chest while I watch the morning news helps (not the news, but the pad). The symptoms come back during the day. Claritin doesn't help me, but Mucinex does.
Nothing changed after I stopped taking Zometa 3 years ago. I believe that herceptin and anastrazole are the causes, but who knows? These meds have been my lifeline all this time on stage 4.

Oh Stacy, I hear your loneliness and I am sorry. You know, the watering eyes make me feel more tired and old and sick. I've had this problem from the beginning of treatment. But I can give you hope that you can make it much better. I went to the ophthalmologist. He said he saw a combination of dryness and inflammation. Also the skin under my eyes is loose (anti-estrogen = loss of collagen). Here are the options he gave me:
--Lubricating eye drops, as often as needed. Systane Ultra, Refresh Optive. But you should get the single-use vials that are preservative-free if you are going to use these long-term. The last thing we need is irritation from the preservative. Can use ointment overnight.
--Punctal plugs. He put a small plug in the inner tear duct to keep the tears in my eyes longer so they could do their job. This must be the cones you mention. The thought does give one the heebie-jeebies, but it was quick and just a little weird, not painful.
--Temporary steroid eye drops to calm down the inflammation that makes them feel so irritated. You can't use these long term, but they are great for occasional use.
--Prescription Restatsis which treats both the inflammation and the dryness. This is what I use now and it has worked the best for me. My eyes still tear, but they are not tearing so constantly any more! I really encourage you to look into this! But you do need an ophthalmologist to prescribe it.
I was afraid to go to the ophthalmologist, too. I called to make sure all staff wear masks, etc. I got a morning appointment to be there before the air in the building could accumulate a lot of virus aerosols. And they ask people to wait in their car until it is their turn. Now that I am vaccinated I feel better about going for a recheck. For the drops, your ophthalmologist may have free samples to get you started. Good luck!

poor us , I’m miserable 😭 also . I’m afraid to drive they fill up with tears and I can’t see. No cocktail no happy hour no nothing I don’t even see my boyfriend. I’m so afraid with my eyes and wiping them then I’m going to catch Covid even though I got three vaccines. Well at least you know it’s one of the two medication‘s that you’re left taking. Let’s hope we get to take them for many many many years to come. I shouldn’t be complaining about the leaky eyes just be happy that the medication is working, but it’s not working on my eyes. I feel so bad for you too

you are so amazing 🤩 I was thinking about Restasis I am going to try to get those without going to the doctor. I’m going to try to get my regular doctor or my oncologist prescribe it. I’m going to bag. LOL I’m so glad that at least you’re getting a little relief. I would like a little relief that’s all I ask for. So are those plugs in the corner helping you? One of their nice girls said that they didn’t help her at all but everybody is different . Are you on Facebook? If you are and you wanna come on my Facebook and friend me I would love that. You seem like my kind of people. Stacy Eisenberg , I have a spider over my eye. I like when the people from these chat groups come on to Facebook so we become real to each other and can really support one another also here but there too. So if you look for me t

ok a are you on Facebook . Friend me Stacy Eisenberg I have a spider over my eye

I'm not on facebook.
I remembered one more thing the ophthalmologist recommended: fish oil capsules. If you want to use them, run it by your oncologist and look for a brand that tests low for heavy metals. I like Nordic Naturals. Fish oil capsules are sold for omega 3 fatty acids etc.
Please post with an update if you can. I hope you can get a prescription for Restasis.
