Lump in breast
Hi I'm 34 and have a lump in my left breast in the upper outter quadrant. I went to my doctor on Monday 18th and I'm now in the two week referral period. (I'm in the Uk)
Everything I have googled is pointing towards it being cancer. Breast cancer is more typical in the left breat and in the upper outter quadrant.
However... I can only feel the lump when I'm sat up or standing up. I can't feel it lying down on my back or sides or leaning over.
My mum felt it without me pointing to the location and my doctor felt it too, but again only when I was upright.
It's a hard lump, can't be moved.
Does anybody have experience of this type of lump?

I'm sorry you're going through this anxious time. Where did you hear or read about breast cancer being more common on the left side, and in the upper outer quadrant? I've never seen that mentioned here. Can you provide a link to the research on that? Good luck on your diagnosis.

Even experienced oncologists would never diagnose cancer based on feeling a lump. The diagnostic process can feel long and terrible, but it is necessary. Even lumps labeled birads5 on scanning can come back benign, let alone a physically discovered bump.
There really is nothing to do but wait, terrible as it is. I'm sorry. Please do know that there are lots of plausible non-cancer explanations and many cancer explanations that are much better than your worse fears. Hang in there!

Doodlebug, with the number of women on BCO, pretty much every type of breast lump has been experienced. But that does not indicate whether your lump is concerning or not. If characteristics of a breast lump based upon palpable examination alone could determine a diagnosis, then we all could have avoided our biopsies. There is no way of knowing by touch, others experiences or Google research. I know you are desperate for reassurance. Well at this point it is still overwhelming in your favour that this is not cancer. I read that same study but could not quote it to save my life. I don’t know how others do that. Read a study and then catalogue it???? So I avoid quoting studies. Lol. One theory is that there is more breast tissue in the upper outer quadrant, thus most breast cancers present there. Why left is anyone’s guess. But that is so irrelevant for you now. Don’t gather facts that scare you. There are WAY more facts to assure you at this point. So sorry you are dealing with this now. Make a list or save a study that shows how unlikely this is to be cancer. And read it over any time you experience that wave of anxiety. You will get through this stressful time.
