I had a mammogram done almost 4 years ago and they saw no issues. I had one done yesterday and I was told my breasts are really dense. They found a mass and grouped classifications in one areain my right breast and an oval asymmetrical in my left breast. I have to go back in for an ultrasound and diagnostic mammogram. I wouldn’t be as worried if it was just one thing going on. What was your experience with the second mammogram?

AParker, call backs are common. I remember getting one way before my first cancer diagnosis. It's actually a funny (at least to me) story.

They saw some little "specks" on the first mammogram, so they called me back, a few weeks later, for another look. The tech looked at the films from the first mammo, and said, "Oh, they're so small". Then she turned bright red and we both started laughing because my breasts (well, one breast now) are quite small. Got to find humor where you can.

That second diagnostic mammo was clear. Back then I didn't know that Dr. Google was an alarmist quack and I was pretty sure I had all kinds of diseases lurking in my body.

I'm sorry you find yourself here. Let us know how things proceed. There are some lovely ladies (and gentlemen) here who have had far more experience that I have.

    Carol

AParker, over the years I had more than one callback, including one that led to a biopsy. All were fine until the one that was not. Simply having a callback does not mean trouble, only that our imaging techniques are not perfect and sometimes things need to be investigated further. The requirement to indicate breast density is relatively recent and the younger one is the greater the likelihood of dense breasts.

I wouldn’t be as concerned if there was only one thing showing up on the mammogram. It’s three different areas of concern that weren’t there before.
