Surgeons who do nipple/skin sparing mastectomy in Canada?

Good morning!

I inquired and I was told it's not available before they even assessed me so I believe no surgeons do it here. I know there are specific criteria which means I may or may not be suitable for me.

I'm wondering if anyone had a nipple sparing mastectomy from Canada who could recommend a plastic surgeon? I'm not sure if I could get provincial funding for it if it happened, but thought I would gather info. Currently in chemo so I have a few months before any further surgery.

If you know of ones to avoid, that's helpful too.

1982M, I am not in SK, but can assure you that there will definitely bereconstructive surgeons in Regina and Saskatoon who do nipple sparing and skin sparing mastectomies. Implant reconstruction will be the most common, and some will do autogolous reconstruction such as DIEP, TUG, SGAP. Autogolous is tissue from your own body. Old autogolpes procedures are TRAM and lat flap, so avoid these if you have other options and you wish to avoid implants. If you select the implant option, you could consider direct to implant, if you are a candidate, vs tissue expanders and fills. I had direct to implant and it was a single surgery with great results, so no need for any additional revisions. Megan Lyons in Regina looks like her practice has a significant breast component.

I would suggest you register for BRA Day for Oct 20. This is an education event that is held annually in October, so your timing is perfect for this. It's virtual this year instead of in person in cities across the country. The program has presentations, education sessions, Q&A, show & tell, and sesiones for reconstruction in various provinces. Number 6 is in the prairies. More Winnipeg surgeons, than SK but they have a Saskatoon PS involved and you will be able to find out how many and the names of breast recon PSs in SK. Best wishes.

The registration and program detail links are on this page:

Thank you! I did register. Thank you for sharing!
My chemo is on that day and they load me up with premeds that often leave me kind of off, but since it's in the evening I'll try and attend.

My breast surgeon is present so I'm interested in what she says. Her resident was the one who told me no so perhaps it was just the resident…

I don’t have enough tissue for flap I believe - I wouldn’t want to lose muscle either- so I think implant survey would be it.
