Mammogram coming up - Freaking out!!!

Hi all! I am just reaching out for some wise words...

I was diagnosed in 2012 and have a yearly mammogram coming up in May. I have no particular reason to be worried. Haven't found a new lump or anything.

I just don't know if this time around, that I will be able to handle those dreaded words said after the mammogram "We need more pictures"..... Waiting in that cubicle is torture!

This year's mammo feels particularly stressful for some reason. I think I am just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

What do you do to distract yourselves while waiting for the techs to dismiss you? Any words of encouragement would be appreciated.

Thanks so much everyone!

Nanka, I get the same way sometimes. Scanxiety....eh. It helps me if I tell myself that I am being pro-active and if they do find something, chances are good that they found it early enough to be treatable. The alternative of not going is worse. My 87 yr old Moms' voice always sticks with me, "just do it and get it over with."... Best wishes!

Thank-you. This is an excellent idea! I will also do as your tagline says "Keep the faith". :)

Metoo….13 years later… I still make myself sick. It’s the worst.

Hi Nanka! Just want to send support. I like the idea of positive self-talk already suggested. Also planning and doing anything enjoyable even if you are distracted by worry while doing them. Do the best you can to focus on what you're experiencing in the moment. Let yourself know you can worry (more) later. Easier said than done though if you don't already do this...Likely more helpful than just going with default planning.... Let us know how things go.....

Same here-my 13 year visit this week and for some reason, I am slightly anxious. I think the "just do it and get it over with" philosophy makes sense. I also have often said the same" if they do find something it is likely early and treatable". I think the hard part is taht we all know all the things that can go wrong, but at the same time, so manymore things cand go right. I am rooting for right.

thanks you so much. As much as it hurts to know we all have to go through this, it’s nice to know that I’m not alone. Everything you are saying is logical so why does it take me so much effort whenself talking me into these strategies? I will try my darndest. 🙂

It was clear! What’s sad is I am on cloud9 for about 5 hours after the all good, then my mind goes to bad places. What ifs gain momentum until the next time. Working on that is important because worrying is such a waste of time ! :

hi….. I went yesterday…. I don't get an answer right away but they didn't ask for additional images. I told tech that I live 8 hours away and to ask if they needed more…. She said radiologist said I could go. I'm gonna take that as a good sign.

Here in Canada you don't get to speak to radiologist but usually if they don't start coming at me with more images I consider myself ok…..lol

    I am exactly like you… 5 hours. It's awful. I wish I could help u…lol

I'm almost wanting to ask my doctor for a bilateral as I just can't take this anymore. They will probably say no….. lol… and tell me I’m healthy.

Yes, no follow ups is a good sign. Although I have been asked for more pictures in the past and turns out fine. We are just considered higher risk so they are vigilant with us.

I am in Canada! It's funny, I always wanted a bilateral also but they felt it was overkill.

I see you're a long time survivor. Fantastique!

It's the weekend too..... : ( !! It has been a few days. I'm not sure how long it generally takes to hear back in your system. I'm assuming you'll hear early next week then? Are you able to call if mid-Monday rolls around and you still haven't heard anything? Really stinks you couldn't hear before the weekend!! Hang in there the best you can...

not too worried. I would be if they fluttered around asking for more images … lol

Bad news travels faster so I’m sure if something was of concern I would have had a call…..

My new doctor maybe only calls if there is an issue …
