    Hi ladies.

Have any of you had this preventative screening for pancreatic cancer and have any additional input on it?

I'm over 4 years out from my original diagnosis and this is the first I have been asked to do this screening.

    Looking forward to any feedback.

hi CBK, is this part of a clinical trial? From what I know there are no established screening for pancreatic cancer for BRCa. I am supposed to be in a trial but I don't know the details of it yet so I am not sure if they use endoscopy or other tests.

This thread caught my eye - just this past year, 11 years out from diagnosis, my MO freaked when he learned I was of 100% Ashkenazi descent and immediately suggested genetic screening. I was skeptical but kept the appointment with the genetic counselor who, when I asked what would be the benefit for a 70 year old with no birth children, responded I might be found to be at heightened risk for pancreatic cancer a could be screened regularly for that - well that was enough for me!! Unfortunately for this conversation, I didn't ask the nature of the screening and thankfully for me, the genetic testing for 47 factors turned out negative. So, such screening appears to be out there and I would have opted for it if my genetic tests indicated I was at risk.

    Aram-

This is not part of a clinical trial, it’s just a preventative screening. I’m going to gathermore information before I do it. My oncologist said she asks her Brca patients to do this screening. I’m assuming it will be a regular thing. Another Dr to add to my list. Ugh 😩

    Jelson-

Wonderful you had the testing and it came back negative!

Hi CBK! Thank you for raising this. I am brca2, but was not offered this procedure. I’ll check with my onc and gastro. May I ask, what is the procedure - a sonogram? And which hospital? I am in Nyc.

    Hi Reckless!

I’m just across the river from you in northern New Jersey. My treatment and follow up has been @ Hackensack’s JT Cancer Center.

As far as I know it is an endoscopy ultrasound and will be performed by a gastroenterologist. I’m in process of scheduling.

I have an ATM mutation. Not BRCA, but similar. They work together. I spoke to a genetic counselor who put together a screening program for me. My MO follows that plan. I will be having yearly MRCPs, which is a scan specifically for the pancreas and biliary tract. I also will have colonoscopies every 5 years. Go see a genetic counselor if you can.

Edited to add: if the MRCP comes back abnormal, I will have an endoscopic ultrasound. They want to do the less invasive procedure first.

    Thank you ARMom!

Honestly I wouldn’t tolerate an MRI without sedation so perhaps why my oncologist going straight to endoscopy.

Thank you for you input and wish you continued health and happiness!
