Calvarial lesion found on MRI
I have had a persistent daily headache for two months. Head MRI found a 1cm calvarial lesion without bone destruction. Has anyone else experienced something like this? Radiology recommended a re-scan in 3 months but I didn’t want to wait so am meeting with neurosurgeon this week to discuss biopsy.

Hi KorynH
It could just be an incidental finding. When I had a brain scan, it discovered a small anurysm, which was an incidental finding. It is now monitored via a scan yearly. I Googled what a calvarial lesion is and it doesn't sound like something that would cause a headache and generally sounds mainly benign and a bone/skull problem as opposed to a brain tumor. Hope all goes well next week with the neurosurgeon.

I waited the 3 months and the enhancing lesion is still present snd headaches are originating directly from that area. I am scheduled for a craniectomy in 3 weeks.

KorynH, I had my first brain MRI back in April. I have breast cancer throughout all bone marrow and bones from head to knee, as well as in my stomach. Here is what my report said.
SIGNAL ABNORMALITIES
ARE NOTED IN THE CALVARIUM.
NO EVIDENCE FOR INTRACRANIAL INJURY OR
ABNORMALITY. SPECIFICALLY
THERE IS NO EVIDENCE FOR BRAIN METASTATIC DISEASE
AT THIS TIME.
I did talk to the radiologist, and I asked him about this. He told me the calvarium is the skull and that it’s not in my brain. It makes sense it’s in my skull since it’s in every other bone. I don’t have headaches from it, though, so if I did, I would definitely try to see what could be done.I hope you find a resolution to the headaches.

Hi KBL-
I am recovering from craniotomy last Friday where a 1 1/2" diameter section of skull was removed for biopsy. Titanium mesh replaced over hole. I am very tired and sore and now having to wait the agonizing two weeks for result. My family and friends are taking goo care of me but I just have no energy. I did paint for a few minutes at my kitchen table today which was nice.

Wow, KorynH, that sounds scary. Please come back and let me know the results. I hope you heal quickly and can get your energy back. I do not have symptoms. So sorry you were having headaches. Will this help get rid of them too? I can’t even imagine having that done. Hugs. I will be thinking of you and hoping that the results are benign

I hope your feeling better. Are your headaches better?

hi KBL -
So far the pain I have now seems to be in the surgical site. It’s hard to say whether or not this will have alleviated the daily headaches I was having. Time will tell. They have had me on a daily migraine medication for about five months and that has to be weaned off very slowly - months before I would be completely off it and will know for sure if headaches are completely gone. They did extend my OxyContin for three more days with a barbiturate drug to alternate them with so hopefully by this time next week I can step down to over the counter pain meds. One day at a time..

thanks- I have pain where the surgery on my skull was but I think it’s too soon to know if my daily headache pain I had before surgery is gone or not. I’m taking narcotics right now so it is hard to say yet.

Hi, KorynH.I hope with each passing day the pain and headaches go away. Thank you for the update.
