Hi everyone, I am from Singapore. I am 51 years old. Previously I had right breast cancer stage 2. I have completed chemo and radiation. Now I am taking tamoxifen.

Long story short, recently my right breast has changed colour to dark red. I also pitted rash on my breast plus dimpling. My breast is very heavy and hot to touch. My breast doctor thinks it's cellulitis and prescribed antibiotics which didn't work. So I went back to see her and she got worried about my pitted rash on my breast. I went mammogram and scan and also done biopsy. Now waiting for result next week.

My question is can you still get cancer while you are on tamoxifen? Thanks

Hello Jennifer1234. Sorry to hear of your symptoms and I hope that it turns out to be nothing serious. I know that waiting for test results is hard. The answer to your question is yes, a person can still get cancer while on Tamoxifen. Anything is possible when it comes to cancer, though the odds are against it.

You may know that a diagnosis of IBC is a clinical diagnosis, so it will be based on the doctor's observation of symptoms and your test results (thickened skin, a possible lump of IDC, etc.) My best wishes to you for a good outcome.

Hi LW422 thanks for the reply.

I do have skin thickening and a mass in my right breast. But the thing I just had breast cancer 1 year ago. How can I possibly have another one?

I have 4 kids to take care. I don't know how am I going to deal with it if biopsy comes back positive.

    Thanks once again

Jennifer--I know you are feeling frightened and anxious, and I wish I could find the words to comfort you a bit. Everyone here knows the devastation of a cancer diagnosis, and many posters also know the greater devastation of a second diagnosis. At this point it's possible that you don't have a second cancer, so try to relax a little (I know it's hard).

Try to take one day at a time, especially since you don't have a definitive answer yet. Many hugs to you.
