I went for my first mammogram the other day and I am super confused by the report. I had to schedule a second diagnostic mammogram and US today since they need more images. Can I please get some help with my report as I am very anxious, please and thank you.

BREAST COMPOSITION: Heterogeneously dense, which may obscure small masses

COMPARISON: None Available
BASELINE: Yes

FINDINGS:
Right
There is a 25 mm focal asymmetry seen in the right breast at 10 o'clock.

There is a 10 mm asymmetry seen in the central region of the right breast
at 6 o'clock in the middle depth on the MLO view. Between 5 and 7 o'clock.

There is a 16 mm focal asymmetry seen in the right breast at 5 o'clock in
the posterior depth.

There is a 13 mm asymmetry seen in the right breast at 5 o'clock on the CC
view. Associated features include architectural distortion.

Left
There is a 14 mm focal asymmetry seen in the left breast at 9 o'clock in
the middle depth, 4 cm from the nipple. Associated features include
calcifications.

IMPRESSION:

CATEGORY: 0 - Incomplete: Needs Additional Imaging Evaluation
Right
2) Focal Asymmetry: Right breast 25 mm focal asymmetry at the 10 o'clock
position. Assessment: 0 - Incomplete. Ultrasound Targeted is recommended.
3) Asymmetry: Right breast 10 mm asymmetry at the central middle 6 o'clock
position. Assessment: 0 - Incomplete. Ultrasound Targeted and Spot
Compression Views are recommended.
4) Focal Asymmetry: Right breast 16 mm focal asymmetry at the posterior 5
o'clock position. Assessment: 0 - Incomplete. Ultrasound Targeted is
recommended.
5) Asymmetry: Right breast 13 mm asymmetry at the 5 o'clock position.
Assessment: 0 - Incomplete. Spot Compression Views and Ultrasound Targeted
are recommended.

Left
1) Focal Asymmetry: Left breast 14 mm focal asymmetry at the middle 9
o'clock position. Assessment: 0 - Incomplete. Ultrasound Targeted and Spot
Compression Views are recommended.

RECOMMENDATION:
Ultrasound Targeted is recommended for the right breast.
Spot Compression Views are recommended for the right breast.
Ultrasound Targeted is recommended for the left breast.
Spot Compression Views are recommended for the left breast.

We will contact the patient and schedule the appointment for any
additional mammography or ultrasound images. For MRI recommendations,
please contact the patient and schedule directly.

thank you in advance!

McNuggetz, we want to welcome you to our community at BCO. We're sorry for the worry that brings you here, but we're glad you've found us.

Others should be along soon to offer some advice and personal experiences to you. In the mean time we wanted to share with you the following article from our main site, where you'll learn more about some of the benign conditions that can come from testing. We hope this helps ease your mind until you get your tests done: What Mammograms Show: Calcifications, Cysts, Fibroadenomas

Good luck, and please come back to let us know how it goes!

Welcome McNuggetz... My takeaway from your report is they just couldn't get good enough images to make heads or tails of the images. Asymmetry can occur b/c of positioning and that truly may be what occurred in your situation. they just need more images to see if anything is going on or not. They are not necessarily saying they see something concerning at this point. Do you have the dates yet for the subsequent scans? Let us know when you hear something.....

I go for a diagnostic mammogram and US on Friday July 30th. I have been trying to stay away from Dr. Google but then I wouldn’t have come across this site. I will update once I know what my results are come Friday. thank you!

my new report states the filling:

    TOMOGRAPHY BILATERAL.

    IMPRESSION:

    CATEGORY 4: Suspicious*

Cluster of microcalcifications on the left which are considered suspicious.

*ACR BI-RADS Atlas Fifth Edition, 2013

    RECOMMENDATION:

Left stereotactic biopsy. Bilateral diagnostic mammogram in 6 months recommended for other areas of asymmetry.

The results and recommendations were discussed with the patient. Following our discussion, patient was scheduled for biopsy. Patient will be mailed a letter with the results and composition.

    END OF IMPRESSION:

INDICATION: Bilateral breast diffuse asymmetries. Cluster microcalcifications seen on the left on diagnostic study

TECHNIQUE: Limited bilateral breast ultrasound and bilateral breast spot tomographic compression views and lateral view as indicated based upon abnormality on screening mammogram. Additional magnification views were performed on the left. Axilla not included. Permanently recorded images were obtained and stored. As a part of the interpretive process, the mammographic images were analyzed with a computer-aided detection system.

BREAST COMPOSITION: Category b. There are scattered areas of fibroglandular density.

    COMPARISON: Baseline

    FINDINGS:

Mammography: Screening mammogram suggested focal areas of asymmetry in both breasts. With spot compression view x, they all appear improved. However, there is residual cluster microcalcifications in the left breast. Magnified views do not show typically benign features. They must be considered a suspicious abnormality and stereotactic biopsy recommended.

worried about the fact that it states : magnified views do not show typically benign features

Sorry your worries will continue at least through biopsy and results. 80% of biopsies come back benign - could still be a fibroadenoma or some other benign finding.... you'll see lots of such things on this site... I hope that is true for you! Please let us know when you get a biopsy date... Sending gentle hugs.... Hang in there!
