we used to have quite a few nurses, where did 'we' all go? back to work maybe?........... i know i go back pretty soon (after a year and a half away), and my time here will be even more limited d/t the ridiculous stress on my floor!

christine.........when i first started it was "whites only", now it's "anything goes".........i prefer the "whites", but i really object to the shoes i see on some nurses now.....'hiking shoes', 'black, brown, gray, grass stained runners, clogs, etc. etc." i guess i'm old school because my mom still wears starched whites and real 'duty shoes'!

some of the new grads wear uniforms with hip hugger waists and they are skin tight with a thong quite visible beneath! now don't get me wrong, i like my "hip, sexy clothes" too, but in "my day" i'd have been sent home without pay for showing up to the floor like 'some' do now.

oh lord, i'm getting old! forty on friday lol! truth be known, it's the dirty shoe thing that sends me silly! all throughout my sx/tx/dx i checked out every single one of my nurses shoes.........and formed an instant judgement if they weren't 'snow white', with clean, starched laces lol!

Shel- 40 is a great number! Are you celebrating?

Ok, I'm taking advantage that we have RN's in the group to ask a question: Is it okay to take fish oil and flaxseed together? I heard the fish oil helps "lubricate" (you know what I mean?) and also lowers cholesterol. Two good things, however, I already take flaxseed oil for my er/pr+ bc status. I don't want to over do it. Could I take both? Thanks for the consult.

I remember taking pics and seing my SIL grad from nursing school, with the pointy white hat and all, do they still do that? She quickly took a job in the OR and it was scrubs (green or blue?) from there on out. I think it's cute when the ped nurses wear the fun colors and animated ones.
Will you be changing your user-name to shel40now? I would be proud. After what we have been thru each birthday is to be really celebrated. I was 42 at dx, looking 45 in the face!

nope, shel38 it is, that is when this mess hit!

now, if i make it to 50 (maybe even 45), then i'll really reconsider, but i'm too superstitious to give "shel40" less than every chance at some kind of a new life.

does that make any sense?........... reading back, i think 'not' but that's my warped rationale and i'm sticking to it lol!

    Good night all,

Let's do a role call. Who are the nurses? Shel and Nicki and isn't Tina from Canada a nurse also? I haven't seen her post in a long time now that I think of it.
Dumb question: Is there really a medic tent? Yes, I just spent $85 to get re-blonded.

I would like to know about fish oil and flaxseed oil also. I'd like to take them, but kinda hesitant.
    Thanks,
    Denise

yes, my dear friend tina is a nurse in the very same hospital as me, one floor beneath me lol!

she has been my rock along the way .......... what a fabulous lady she is!

as far as supplements go ......... i can't help you guys, being a nurse and very "practical" i kind of avoid unregulated supplements except for vitamin supps. but i am a minority on that front........... many will come along with great advice and wisdom regarding homeopathy and supplements etc. i actually wish i was a little more open minded to "alternative" things, but i'm just not.

Shel - thanks for your honesty. I know what you mean. I recently started taking flaxseed oil because my onc indicated it has been linked to preventing recurrence in er/pr + bc. He also said fish oil has been linked to preventing mets in Her2+ bc. It did not dawn on me to ask him about the other benefits of taking fish oil and I won't see him again until May.

I had my exchange surgery on friday 3/23. Mentor high profile, silicone gel, 300cc on both sides. I have a surgical bra on with banduea (sp) on top and bottom to keep the radiated side even with the prophy side. From what I can tell the prophy side looks a tad bigger, the the real telling will be when they are unveiled on Thursday 3/29. PS came into the recovery room and put my hand on the implant to feel how soft it is. They are soft!!! I am sore in the sternun area, and exhausted (more than I thought I would be). I'm just glad to have this over with. Sleeping at night has been hard. I sleep when I came home friday and slept alot yesterday. Friday night I was so miserable I was ready to rip off all the bandages - theya re so tight it feel like a vice grip around me. I took two sleeping pills (trazodeone 50mg) and they did nothing - could have been sugar pills!!!. Eventually decided to take a pain pill and valium. Still slept lousy. Thank you everyone for being there with me - DH said the waiting room was packed. Did you notice I took my teddy bear and good luck charms to the OR? And they let me wear my pink silicone BC bracelet as well.
Wow - I can't believe how many posts there has been since thursday night - we were on page 326 and now its page 333 - way too many for me to catch up on. Just wanted to say thanks and I hope everyone is doing well. I am on spring break this week, so will try to catch up on all the posts.

Shel is going to the Keys again! I hope this means you are checking out the job offers there!

Vickie, do you still have the Christmas list? I'm on there & I'm on the Rads Exchange list too! If not I'll PM it to you.

Well the womens show was fun. Tiring but fun!
Came home to rest and try to figure out how to go home to be with Dad for his surgery when I got a call that my Pregnat Daughter was being transported to the Hospital and could I meet them there. After spending 1.5 hours in Ob they determined that the baby was doing well and then sent us back to ER to have them check her in there. We finanlly got out of there at 2am, hour hours later with them giving her something for the pain and confirmed that YES she has a Broken Rib! I was in the middle of making plane reservations for us both when the call came in so now I have to wait for her to check with her Dr. to see if she can fly before I make the reservations. That's going to cost more now! But she wants to go be with her grandpa. Who am I to deny her.

Lisa, I may get to meet up with you if I make it down. My folk don't live far from you. I'll send you a PM as soon as I know when I'll be in San Diego

Going to make a quick round and then try to get some sleep.

    Hugs & Prayers to all

Aw Shel- I am heading off to bed, but I gotta say how great it is to "hear" you posting so optimistically! So many things have sucked for a long time for you, the ol' shel spirit is back and it sounds like you have some love for life. You are right, we gotta see the good sometime or the bad will push us over the edge. We've all seen that edge. But there's gotta be something to get us past it. Maybe children, the seasons, the ocean, or even catching that one big fish. You are at the top of my hero list this year. I just told Fumi, Keep on Keeping On. It really is the beat we can do.
Have a great trip and bday, but I'll catch up w/ you before then. I can't miss your 40th!!!

Good late evening or morning I guess. Been a long day and I'm tired so I think I'm gonna make a short post and head off to get some sleep.

Odalys, yes, we only have a weekly newspaper. lol Now that's a small town. Not enough happening to have a daily one. It's not strange to me because I grew up in a town smaller than the one I live in now and we only had the weekly paper that came out on Wednesdays, like this one. I know that seems odd to people from the city but it's just the norm for us. lol

Shel, (aka Sybil) you are gonna have such a good time again at the keys. Yes, you are a very lucky girl. Or girls. hahahha That's a joke.

NS, I am so sorry for what you're going thru, I thought you were doing much better. Glad you can see your dr tomorrow. Hang in there, toots.

Shirley, Welcome Home! Gee we've missed ya girl.

Karen, glad your surgery is over and hope you do well.

CY, good luck to your dd about getting to fly. Hope she gets along well.

Hi ya Vickie and Christiny! Also, wishing you all a good nights rest, Nicki, Susan, Boo, Jazmanian, Lini, Margaret, MB, Iris, and oh shoot, you know who you are.

Denise, of course we have a real Medic Tent. It's as real as the Delivetance Tent, Hooch Tent, Pissy Tent, Spa Tent, and all the rest of them. Lets see, you paid how much to get re-blonded again?? lol You silly girl. I believe we also have a Fruitcake Tent if you're interested. TeeHee

Thanks to everyone that was so sweet about out new pup. My dh told my dd that he was going to keep her and then he found her like that. So glad I was not attached yet. But it was still ugly. That was sure a fluke thing to happen who would've thought?

Carrie, lookes like you and Denise are going to have to make an appearance, people are worried about you all.
Brenda, you too. Thennnn we come to Meaner. lol An appearance from you would be nice from time to time. You're spending way too much time in the Hooch Tent. You know what your...uh...Probation Officer said about all that drinking. OOPS, did I say too much?? HAHAHAHAA

Jan, where were you today? You weren't here for the head count I just made. Maybe that's why I behaved today! Ya think?

Praying all of you having dr. appts, tests, test results or procedures done, that all goes well for you. Sleep well my friends.

Good Morning Everyone: Yes, I overslept today. Odd isnt it. Up early on both of my days off and then come Monday, over sleep! Doesnt matter now though, cause my coffee is done and my eyes are starting to open wide.

Denise: I did have a private conversation with NS last night. And I agree with what Shel said. The longer the drains are in, the easier it is for them to get clogged. I was just torn a bit as to what one should do in that situation. My first instinct was to go to the ER, but those doctors and nurses dont have a clue about PS. My second instinct was to wait until the morning and have the PS take a look at things. Either way, Im hoping NS got through the night and can get this all addressed today.

Cheri: Oh what a sad story about Sinatra. That one made me cry this morning. Poor little thing. Nature sure has a way of handling things.

Shel: Look at what good advice you gave to NS. And you think your gonna feel like a new grad when you go back to work. Ha! You still got it girl. Better than ever! The other thing I wanted to say, is remember now, Im 17 years older than you! Gaawd that was hard to say! Anyways as a young graduate we wore white dress uniforms, white nylons, white "nursing shoes" not gym shoes and the nurses cap from the school we graduated from. Pant suits were not allowed in those early years! Can you believe that. Now it is scrubs everywhere. Oh and Shel, the other day I was getting on an elevator with a young female doctor. Who had a tiny tee shirt and hip huggers on. Could see her belly button! Thought now thas an odd way for a doctor to dress. Man oh man - Im getting old! Either that or jealous. Cause my belly is so big it pops out everywhere. Seems like my pants like to fall below the big fat belly even if they are not hip huggers!

Odalys: Man oh man it is so good to see you back my friend. I remember you keeping us updated during Super Bowl week - and gosh that is now a distant memory. Dont you stay away too long! Its odd, Ive worked in many areas as a nurse. When I was diagnosed with BC I didnt realize how little I knew about the disease. Was always focused on critical care or management. Anyways, I dont know the answer to your question about fish oil and flaxseeds. But then when I dont know something, I always find that to be a challenge. So Im gonna have to look this stuff up and see what they say. So glad you are back and sending you a great big hug.

    image

Denise: Of course there is a medic tent in the wagon circle. Its the covered wagon with the big red cross. Liz and I usually take turns taking care of everyone there that is feeling under the weather. I like the roll call idea, and I think we should ask not just who are nurses, but how many of us works in healthcare. It would be quit surprising to see how many of us work in the medical and dental fields.

Karen: Whew! Glad the surgery went well and good to see you post. Hoping today is a better day for you.

Lisa: Good luck with the sonogram today. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything is gonna be just fine.

Shokk, Boo, Laura - Just sayiang hello and hoping you have a great day.

Looking for Jeannie, Jeanette, Carrie, Deese, Ginny and so many others. Please check in cause we miss you.

Back to the real world. Gotta get ready for work. See ya all later.

Wow! Nicki and Vicki, you have gotten a copy of my high school annual and I am so impressed! That one w/the alarm clock looks a lot like the class prez did! Ha! Kidding... I needed those pics today! LOL!

Wrote to everyone from the last three days and you got it,lost it! Should have saved it--whatever!

Best to everyone today. I am dealing w/banks,alarm company, insurance, etc. Forgot how much rigamarole there is w/a burglary. At least I had some pics and receipts this time. Scary when they cut your alarm system w/pliers and jimmy your door;makes me so mad! At least, I wasn't home. I have been cleaning closets and pitching,pitching---stuff just feels dirty. This too shall pass.....

Thanks for the support as all the cgs are w/me when I am alone,I think of you. I played my cd,again,Deb,needed to remind myself abt strength!

    Good morning,

I have to learn how to post pictures. Vicki and Nicki have such good wake up ones.

Cheri, I'm so sorry about the puppy. I echo what others have said...you werre doing a good thing and it's not your fault. Mama dog was doing what she had to also. The pups are adornable.

Nurses rock!! I was so disturbed last month to learn Sherry, my onc. nursr had left. I tracked her down and she's working at the VA now and still with my onc. I'll sure miss her, though. The nice thing is she and her DH are building a house in a new neighborhood in town. She will be right around the corner from another friend and bc survivor.

Spring has come to TN. The bradford pears are snow white, the dogwood, too except the pimk ones. (LOL) I pulled up dead stuff rom my flower box and found some green stuff growing..I don't know the names of what I plant. I just plant stuff that looks pretty in the nursery and hope it survived my care.

    Better run.

    Hugs to all.

Good morning everyone......well it has been a long week.....I will talk about all the kiddo situations later.........I have something to confess..........I am the world's worse house keeper.....I hate housework.......I absolutely LOVE working in the yard.....yesterday I mowed, edged, trimed bushes and pulled weeds......it felt so good....last summer I finished chemo the first wk in June and then had surgery in July and then started radation in late August....I just didn't have the strength or the will to get out in the yard. I just have to make myself vacuum, dust and mop...doing dishes and just picking up clutter is not too bad but geeezzzzz it is just torture to me....don't get me wrong I love having a clean house I am just one of those women that don't enjoy doing the actual cleaning....my step mom told my once that house work is never ending that no matter how hard you clean in a few days the house will be messy again........it will look like you never spent days cleaning it......anyway thats my story for the morning.....Karen I was thinking about you this morning I'm glad you checked in....Cheri so sorry about the puppy....dogs....geezzzz........I'm not a dog person but that sure is sad....but everyone is right....that was not your fault...it was just a freak accident........when I get to work I will post again.....got to talk about the kids.....

Good Morning to all my sunshine sisters.

Iris: Oh my, I got a chill down my spine when you
said "good thing your were not home." That is so darn scary. Also sounds like these burglars knew exactly what they were doing.

Betty: Good to see you again with the early morning sunshine sisters.

Shokk: Clean house and cook? Oh no no no thats not me. I leave that stuff up to my husband. That is until the closets get so full of junk that he hides there. He has a funny way of making the house clean.

    Have a great day everyone.

    Morning Girls,

Reading, just don't have a lot to say lately. And didn't take notes...

NS - I hope you get the drains figured out and relief from the pain.

Karen in Denver - I was just reading my Circle Girls christmas cards yesterday, and noticed that your surgery was supposed to be this month. I'm glad it went well. I love the picture of your family and I loved re-reading your letter.

Vickie - I'm so sorry about the puppy, but you really couldn't know that would happen.

Nicki - I exercised (just once) last week, and my goal is to do it again at least 3 times this week. I wear my "Fight Like a Girl" t-shirt with the little pink boxing gloves, and for some reason it makes me feel strong (even though I'm not!)

Deb - Sounds like you're in a bit of a funk like me (we even had snow this weekend, so we're on the same weather downer too!) Feel better.

Sue/Gus - Did you read the article in the Sunday Globe yesterday about the women who wrote the book about their special needs kids? It's called, "Shut Up About...Your Perfect Child" and is supposed to be a really positive, and actually funny, book about parenting a special needs child. They also have a webite. I'll look it up for you if you don't get the Globe if you're interested. I thought it might help you with what you're going through with your son's school right now.

Love to you all, speaking of kids, I need to get mine off to school!

Lots of catching up to do.

Iris, have been burglarized before. It is a horrible feeling of being violated.

Cheri, what'a a knifty knitter? I can't knit or chrochet. I'm so sorry about the new pup. It was not your fault.

Laura,so the baby turned 21. Hope she had a good birthday. My baby turns 21 Friday so we're flying to Vegas for the weekend.

Sue, glad you went cycling. Three miles is good.

Vickie, saw your picture - you look mahvelous! Although Nathaniel looks pretty damn cute with all his new stuff.

Deb, did you get my warm weather? I'm going to send some to Vickie too but have to wait til Wed. It's going to start raining soon.

Betty, if you want instructions on how to post pictures, let me know. I taught Nicki how to do it.

NS, hope you've been able to talk to the doctors by the time you read this.

Shower time. Have a good day all.

Nicki that is so funny.....its just like a kid....when it finally gets to a point when they can't go out and play until they clean their room.....one time my ex was trying to prove a point of what a horrible house cleaner I was and he went to the hall closet and pulled everything out into the middle of the floor and said look how hard was that? The closet is clean.....of course everything is just laying in the middle of the floor and I said if that is all there is to cleaning out the closet that would be easy so I shoved everything back into the closet except that was his and when he left I threw it all out in the trash......(we were having problems)ha!!!!!!
