IDC, then 10 years later, DCIS. Is that weird?

Oy vey iz mir. I had IDC, stage 1, grade 1, in 2011. I was just given the news that my recent biopsy--right next to my lumpectomy site--is positive for DCIS. The DCIS is only one millimeter. What is going on? I've heard of DCIS turning into IDC, but never DCIS 10 years after IDC. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks!

    jamiebeth,

Your current diagnosis of DCIS is quite possibly unrelated to your previous diagnosis. This may be a new primary site. As long as you have breast tissue you can develop bc. Thankfully, it is a very small bit of DCIS and should be easily treated. Zei gezunt! (I’m thinking you might be a Yiddish speaker 😊)

Thankfully very small - caught very early..... I cannot imagine a second diagnosis.... just has to feel like the air left the room.... Please keep us posted as you proceed with appointments.

Yes, caught early which is a huge relief if you can call anything related to BC a relief. I'll keep you posted.

I know all of the bad words in Yiddish if that counts. Lol.I don't have all the info on the DCIS yet, but it's most likely a new primary. Take care!
